  • Dear Jane + In Love And Pain HK Live Interviews

    Saturday, Aug 1, 2009 2:10PM / Standard Entry

Tonight is going to be a great night. We have One Arm Bear, In Love And Pain, plus Dear Jane rocking it up at HK Live! Too bad I am in Australia at the moment and I am going to miss out on it. It will be the first time that I haven't MCed this show in 9 months. If I was in Hong Kong I would be definately there MCing the show... and what a show it is going to be. The line-up is great and I get to meet up with all the  bands first hand because of my role of interviewer at Choochootv.

You already have seen the interview for One Arm Bear. Now get ready for the next installment- we have the interviews with Dear Jane + In Love And Pain.

I especially enjoyed interviewing Dear Jane and as you can see I was able to do alot of research about the guys. (As if I didn't know enough about them already) :) I found that there were so many good questions and even more good answers. Unfortunately for you we had to cut up the 20 min interview and give you the highlights of the best questions. I was told that it was really difficult to edit this interview as there was so much juicy stuff in it. Dear Jane are the most famous HK Indie band that I have had the pleasure of interviewing so far. And you know what, they knew that I was the singer of FBI. Yeah! Just hope my band can have as much success as Dear Jane in the near future. They are going to rock HK Live! so you better be there!

My interview with In Love And Pain was just as good. These guys are good friends of mine and I know much about their band and have seen them many times. I have even done a review of their performance at the Melting Pot for the Underground. If you look into the previous blogs that I have done you will be able to see my review of them. Knowing alot about the band really helps me when it comes time to do the interview and prepare the questions. Once again I was able to make the interview a little bit more interesting by developing some questions that were more specific to this band.

I hope you enjoy the interviews... here they are!

Oh and by the way. You know there is a competition going on to get to see who will be Linkin Park's opening band... Well, I really hope that you can vote for my band, FBI, because we really want the oppurtunity to support a famous band. I will have to cut my holiday short to come back on time, but it is well worth it. So, don't forget to vote for FBI!!!!

  • One Arm Bear- HK Live Interview

    Tuesday, Jul 28, 2009 6:26PM / Standard Entry

I didn't really know much about these guys before I went into the interview, except that they are from Canada. Yeah I looked at their myspace, facebook and their official website. But, I couldn't get a feel for specific questions to ask them that would make this interview more interesting for the viewers. So, unfortunately for you lot I just ask all of the rudimentary questions, trying to get an understanding of the guys sitting before me.

You know what I found out, that they are really nice guys. We ended up going to have dinner with Randall from Choochootv and all of the members of One Arm Bear. We exchanged stories as we ate and had a good old time.

Turns out that these guys are testing out HK waters to see if the band scene here will happen for them. So, I wish them good luck in their endeavours.

In one of the stories, it turns out that Mati had seen my band when we played at the TST Outdoor Carnival. He continued to follow my band through alivenotdead and myspace. And he mentioned lots of nice things about us, which made my head swell abit. Makes me a little bit sad that I will not be there to see their live performance.

Anyway, enough about me. I really hope you enjoy the interview.

  • My interview with Nick Dynamo from 108 RECRORDS

    Thursday, Jul 23, 2009 6:49PM / Standard Entry

Sorry I didn't post this one up earlier. I have been busy lazing around the pool and working out so that I can get rid of some of that baby fat off me.

I did this interview the day after the one with Quan, but obviously because Quan was priority ONE in my brain I forgot to mention 108 Bandits straight away.

Now, this guy, Nick Dynamo, is a very interesting guy. He has a very particular way of talking which can be quite addictive. Haha! He just won't shut up, which is cool! But, you can see me struggling at times asking him questions, because I thought he had finished what he was saying, but oh no, he interjects and keeps on going. (shaking my head) :)

This interview has a different feel to it to. It was done in Nick's warehouse apartment that he also uses for professional photography. I didn't get to ask him, but I wonder whether there was any naked pictures going on there. Well, he is an Emcee. Just would seem fitting if there was. Damn. Now I am gutted I didn't ask him that question.

    Anyway, please enjoy the interview.

Interviews coming up at the end of the month will be with Dear Jane, One Arm Bear and In Love and Pain

  • I interview one of my idols- Quan from Regurgitator!!!

    Tuesday, Jun 30, 2009 1:42PM / Standard Entry

So much has been going on lately! In the last week I have done two interviews for Choochootv for the HK Live! show coming up this Saturday. But, for this blog I am just going to talk about the first interview, for now.

The first interview I got to do was with Quan (http://www.alivenotdead.com/quantheamateur), who is the former lead singer/guitarist of Australian band, Regurgitator. I am a huge fan of his and his band since I was a teenager. I bought his first album ‘Tu Plang’ and I totally loved it. It had a little bit of everything in there; rock, rap and electronica.

Now he is doing a solo act which actually involves himself and drummer, Catharina. I found out that he recorded all of the album by himself, but was actually looking for a female drummer to help him with the live shows, especially for the Big Day Out.

It was a great honour and pleasure talking with Quan as he has become an idol of mine. He is the most famous person I have had the chance to interview so far. All of the other interviewees have been from Hong Kong indie bands (except for Twin Lobster: Phillipino band), and now I have got the chance to interview someone with a more International stage presence… or at least an Australian personality.

I asked a friend of mine, “Does that make me more famous if I am interviewing a famous person?” And he answered me, “Maybe to Gurg fans!”

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the interview. One of the best ones I have done so far.

I hope you enjoyed the interview. Please come down this Saturday night to The Fringe Club to see Quan in action. I can assure you that he won't disappoint. Just to give you a teaser of what he is capable of I am going to give you a link to one of his music video clips from the album. It is called 'The One' and is a little bit different from the other songs, but still good. He talks about this song in the interview.

  • Heal the world- MJ will live in our hearts forever

    Friday, Jun 26, 2009 4:43PM / Standard Entry

Thinking about Michael Jackson's tragic death brings tears to my eyes. He has been such an inspiration to me and to many many people in the world. I remember when I was in Primary school and I performed dances of MJ's routine in front of the school.

One in particular I can remember doing was the song 'Black or White', having listened to the album , 'Dangerous', non-stop. I did the dance with a friend of mine who later played footy with me and would sometimes say, "Remember when we did that Michael Jackon song together?" Of course I would never forget. Though, he didn't say it out loud in front of the other footy guys.

My Primary School teacher also loved MJ so much that he used to make us sing some of his songs for school performances and assemblys. That's how I learned how to sing, trying to mimic Michael Jackson's voice.

I remember going to family parties and trying to dance like him. I was actually much better at it when I was younger than I am now. I guess I had less inhibition. Everybody would try and do the moonwalk.

Even though some of his music like, Thriller, were abit before my time I have been able to appreciate his music. I was suprised that my band wanted to play a cover of one of his songs. We sang 'Smooth Criminal' at our EP launch party to surprise people, my voice has gotten much much deeper since I was young and I couldn't do him justice during the chorus, but I gave it a go anyway. It was so much fun to sing one of his songs. It did all the ows and everything.

I never really knew what to think about all the hype about him being a kiddy-fiddler. It seemed possible, but we all hoped it wasn't true. He always thought of him as just a little kid in an adult's body. He never really got to grow up, which is really sad. Of course he enjoyed the company of children because he missed out on having a childhood of his own. He wanted to share it with them.

We all wanted to go to Neverneverland. We all wanted to meet him. The closest that I got was that when I was 13 I skipped the last day of school to go to work as a Roadie at his concert the day after he performed in Perth. I know what you're thinking, 13!!! Yes, my friend and his older brother's friends went along and they asked if I wanted to get some paid work. I thought I would go and see if I could do it, not knowing that I would be the smallest and the youngest one there. I thought they were going to tell me to go home because I was too small, but they let me have a shot at it. I did just as much work as everyone else. We took the stage apart and cleaned the floor of thousands upon thousands of glitter. I lifted shit and I could do some shit that the other bulkier guys weren't suited for. I did my part and I earnt my money. What I remember the most is that MJ's Head Roadie was this tall Jamaican guy who was always smoking a joint. It was one of my first ever jobs, and a memorable one.

Going back to Michael, he will be missed deerly. Dying of a heart attack at such a young age... c'mon 50?!! There has to be some reason there. Is being the King of Pop not all what its cracked up to be. So much media, so much stress, could drugs have been an influence? Too much plastic surgery? Shit Michael... you all know we were happy with you the way you were, you didn't need to change anything. We all saw his plunge from stardom and we all hoped that he could make it back up with his comeback tour. I was sure hoping to get to see the legend in concert again. But that will never happen now. I feel so sad. The POP ICON has died today. God Rest his soul!!

    ;(
