For the past few months I have accumulated a fair share of food or food related pictures.
There is a story to every picture, I guess a picture is worth a thousand words, and with food pics - you'd know that it conjures both memories and smells of the past.
- I'm sure this is a Roti, but here it's called "Rizza". They're probably bootlegging it and cashing in on the ignorance of us Sydney folk! Regardless, its still absolutely delicious, I'm sure I can eat 2, but for $17.80 a slice - I'm happy to just have one. Reminds me of the restaurant just infront of this one, who boasts to have "The best steak in town"...but when you ask for the steak, they'd say "We don't have anymore steaks left", you ask "So what do you recommend?", they'd say "Try the chicken, the chicken is good", you say ok. But then when you look around, everyone is eating "the chicken" - its a fuking conspiracy!
- A "rice dumpling" that Alison brought over by the truckloads. Her mother hand-makes them and sells them during the Chinese "rice dumpling festival"? haha I don't know what its called. But Alison apparently made the 15 that she gave me, and the rest (a whole van full) was going to the good citizens of Chinatown. Testimonial: It was delicious for the 3 mins that took to consume it, and not so delicious during the 4 toilet trips that followed soon after.
- "Islam Beef Buns" in Hong Kong, There's 3 shops in Hong Kong, and noone knows which one is the 'most authentic' - they all claim to be 'the most authentic'. But as long as it tastes good - Who cares!
- boiling hot oil....my tongue tasted like burning! But it's worth the pain.
- We had 6 each, and that was just the entree! Christ, that's actually quite alot.
- Chicken Teriyaki at The Haymarket Hotel. Really nice...especially the sauce! I have a crush on the sauce. But its $8.50 though, that's a slap to the face for 10 pieces of chicken, I can get a whole chicken for $10 at Coles! hmm I think I mentioned something about price before, I must sound like a tight-arse haha
- Mixed Sashimi Salad...another wonderful dish, once again the sauce is brilliant, its not just mayonnaise!
- This pizza was ridiculously big! It took 1/2 an hour to make, so I savoured every slice. I even went as far as to save half a piece for 'dinner. It's a 'family' pizza, but it only took 2 (great) men to finish it! Yes, our consumption is equivalent to that of a small family. And we also drink like real men should! It reminds me of a story about Thor - the great Norse God of Thunder! Where he dined with a bunch of rock giants and ate 12 salmons, 10 cows and 8 gallons of beer - now that's a real man!
- Our usual 'Wasabi' challenge taken up to the next level - "No soy sauce" allowed.
- Don't look disgusted Juan, you cheated mate, you dropped the wasabi on the ground...FAIL!
Its amazing how Juan was the ONLY one who held his chopsticks 'the proper way'! The rest of us went the lazy way and did the 'X' method. How do you hold your chopsticks?
- Lunch with Lou, I convinced Lou to open a bottle of wine, after the Sangria. It was well-worth it, after trawling for 2 hours in Surry Hills on a quest to find a decent restaurant, but none were found. We needed something to quench our thirst...
- Authentic firewood pizza, wedges and spag bol! Sometimes the easier the 'dish' the harder it is to perfect! The chef did quite a good job, or maybe it was the wine talking...
- This is not food, or anything of substance. It's my work desk, I don't think I even took this picture!
