I was looking for some information and came across this guy, Scooby, on Youtube, who has a great deal of useful info on bodybuilding, fitness, and nutrition.
His videos online are easy to understand, simple, and shows you how easy it is to exercise from home with minimal purchases: no expensive gym membership, no payment plan for large metal contraptions, etc. - just some dumbbells, and a few other inexpensive items - all his exercises can be done from home.
Now if you goto his website: http://fitness.scoobysworkshop.com/index.htm
He has compiled a great amount of data. His website, IMO, is great for the following reasons:
1. He's not trying to sell anything. In fact, he goes out of his way to make a point that there's a bunch of crap out there whose sole purpose is to make a buck off you. At best, those gimmicks waste your time and money, at worst, they harm your body.
2. He gives you the straight-up: there ARE NO SHORTCUTS. He breaks it down, and pretty much say, each year, a person can at most gain between x and y amount of muscle (depending on your genetics). More training, more protein, etc. will not affect that gain, and may even be counterproductive (overtraining metabolizes muscle, and overeating protein doesn't do anything)
The other low-down that we ALL KNOW is this: Eat less, Exercise More. It's that simple. and yet there's a multi-billion dollar industry on fat loss, muscle gain, six-pack abs, etc.
3. Cardio, Cardio, Cardio. There's no way around it if you want your abs to show. He dispels certain myths such as - you can specifically target one area to lose fat there e.g. lovehandles. (when in fact, you have to look at your body holistically).
4. He doesn't say that his method is right, but reminds you to always be skeptical and do your own research.
5. He breaks it all down:
- Nutrition (in nice little tables showing calorica and protein intake, recommending 5-7 meals a day for constant protein intake). He gives you sample meals and sources of calories and protein that are easy to make and cheap to buy.
- Beginners and Advanced techniques:
the
whys, (such as importance of breathing and posture)
when (how many reps, how many times a week),
the how (he stresses form is more important than weight e.g. lots of people make the mistake of moving fast and using momentum, thus cheating themselves of maximal gain), the different exercises for every major muscle group (again, using only home exercises).
I highly recommend Scooby's website. Thanks Scooby!
