trip to Keningau & some other stuffs...

since the funeral service on Thursday, i've been busy with work, supper with my friends until Friday night it occurred to me...i have a wedding dinner on Saturday night at Keningau, a place where i used to live on and off when i was little...

i asked my cousin Kelvin who lives there but is currently working and staying in KK whether he's going back to his hometown on Saturday. he told me that he's only going on Sunday...and refuses to let me stay at his house...

a few friends were busy, even their brothers had stuff to do so i'm left alone...

the thought of driving there, alone, mountainous road...gives me chills...what to do...before leaving the city, called my aunt and my mum (she's staying with my youngest aunt to clear my 2nd eldest aunt's stuff at home) to inform them of my trip, they totally freaked and said will send me to the cab station...in the end, my mum came along...it's good for her to have some rest after these hectic days...

the cab driver took the new road to Keningau...which we've never gone through...and eventually came out from Kimanis side to Keningau town...

fact sheet on Keningau:

location - interior division of Sabah, located some 138km away from KK City in the western central part of Sabah...

demographic - 90% Kadazandusun and Murut, 8% Chinese and other indigenous locals

Info taken from Keningau - Wikipedia

this route took us less than 2 hours to get to Keningau compared to the old road which passes through Tambunan and takes about 2 and a half hours...

the good thing about this route is that after the hills before reaching Keningau, we can see the whole Keningau town which is situated in a valley...majestic view, the first time i've seen Keningau town from this height...amazing! was too surprised to snap a picture...will do that the next time, totally out of my expectations to see something like this!

my mum was so amazed with the development there, we haven't been to Keningau town for at least 3 to 5 years...the times we were in Keningau, we only hang out or stayed in Bingkor where my eldest aunt's house is located at, some 10km away from Keningau town...

and the place where the wedding dinner is, Hotel Juta, can be seen clear from the hills...white, huge, tallest building in town...my cousin booked a room for me (and my mum who decided to tag along last minute) at the hotel as well...the moment we drove in the driveway, it impressed me...it's not like anything in Keningau...it's so grand! i still recognized some old shops, but my mum totally lost direction of where she was...

the room rate was RM80 bcuz i'm attending the wedding...double bed, spacious room...clean...a bit dark bcuz one of the bulbs wasn't working...a view of the football field located across the road, and the small mosque...

called my friend KH who's my primary schoolmate for 1 and a half years as well as my secondary school 6 year classmate...he's accompanying me to dinner...when i met him downstairs, he was wearing a big T-shirt with shorts, me with my black lacy dress...WHAT A CONTRAST! i was like, GO BACK AND CHANGE...since his shop is located RIGHT BEHIND the hotel, i followed him back and paid a visit to his mum, who was my cousin's class teacher and an old family friend...

when we arrived at the ballroom, Bibiana the bride immediately recognized me...i got to know her in September 2005 at the low cost carrier airport in Tanjung Aru...we were both taking the same flight to KL at that time and we were both alone...we chatted and then sat together during the flight...the other day while exchanging messages on friendster, she mentioned something that i've long forgotten: when we landed in KLIA, some guy asked whether we were artists...PUHAHAHA!! do we look so glamorous?!

anyway, the wedding dinner was not bad...the people were friendly...but most of the time, me and KH were busy catching up...we haven't met each other since we graduated highschool, or maybe we bumped into each other but had no time to chat...it was great...10pm, KH left...and i was alone in the ballroom...went out to have a puff of cigarette bcuz i was kinda woozy after the freeflow of beer and a cup of red wine...some of the waiters were staring at me, maybe it's bcuz they seldom see a girl smoking with a beer glass in my hands at a small town like this...OUCH!

after one ciggie session, went in to look for Bibiana...took a pic with her, then she introduced me to her in-laws who were young and single so that i can mingle with them and have a good time...there comes the drinking again...Label 5 with coke, red wine again...surprisingly Label 5 is pretty good, never had that before, but it feels smooth, just like JW Black Label...

dancing sessions took place...was pulled to the dance floor by Judith, Gerane and Gina etc...it was fun...the music were mostly 60's 70's twist...of course the traditional Kadazandusun Sumazau as well...sorry that i forgot to shoot the video of people dancing Sumazau bcuz i was busy dancing as well...and boozes got into my head...lol!

got back to my room 607 where my mum was...she refused to attend the dinner bcuz of my aunt's funeral and she didn't bring any nice clothes...she decided to just chill in the room and watch tv...the time was around 12:30am, which i thought was still early for KK, but VERY LATE for Keningau...removed my make up, changed, cleaned myself up, do some moisturising ritual to my face and plopped into bed...

the next morning, got up at 8am, i heard my phone received an SMS at around 7am but too lazy to read it...it was from my cousin Kelvin saying he's coming over at around 11am and that i can take my mum out for breakfast at the coffee shop located just opposite the hotel...

mum and i went down, went round the block of shops located behind the hotel, passing through KH's shop, and back at Hotel Juta's front door...in the end, we decided to just eat at where my cousin recommended...food was ok...lemon tea was nice! took some photo of the food served...

then we went back to our room...surprisingly before 10:30am, my cousin called saying he's arrived town...mum and i had long completed packing, so we just went down to the lobby and checked out...while i was signing the receipts, my cousin came in...we said to go to his house and look around since we haven't been there for a while...we used to stay there when i was little...the bellboy who opened the door for us was really cute! haha~

along the way to Bingkor, i took a lot of pics...and the offroad way to the farm house, i took a video instead...for old memory's sake...i'll upload it in youtube and link over...

we helped to clean the house, just sweeping the floor and tidying the tables...a lot of gecko shits! nobody stayed in the house bcuz my eldest aunt's away in the States...her daughter, which is my cousin as well gave birth to her 2nd baby end of March...

around 12pm, we left...my cousin took us to the cab stand where we got on a cab back to KK...took a lot of pics on the way down...had a nap too until a car suddenly almost crashed into us and the driver hit the brakes...DAMN! these people should drive more safely~ some cars broke down on the way too... luckily i didn't drive...

by 2pm, we reached my youngest aunt's house which is located in Lokkawi...overall it was a very enjoyable trip...brings back many old memories...

at around 9pm, i reached my own home after my younger aunt's daughter, another of my cousin sent me home since she and her boyfriend had dinner at my youngest aunt's house...then, i switched my PC on and received an MSN message from my high school teacher, Mrs Margaret saying that my friend Nick's dad, just passed away at 8am this morning...and Nick just got back at 5pm today...she asked me to inform some close friends so that we can go and visit Nick and support him throughout the days, since this is his final semester in college and something like this happened all out of a sudden...i immediately called a few friends and discussed...we decided to go tomorrow at 6.30pm after work...i called Nick as well, and he's back at home, he sounded ok...trying to be strong, but i can hear some sobbing on the way...tried not to talk long and not to console too much...

so many funeral affairs these days...

after my dad's death, i know some friends lost their dads too...a very close friend, Lian, lost her dad in an aircrash in 2005, the Mandala Airlines Flight 091...JustinL lost his dad during Chinese New Year 2005 if i'm not mistaken...Ket just lost his grandpa last month...my aunt last week...and now, Nick's dad...

we never realise it, and i think they don't too, that the time is ticking, as we grow up, our parents and relatives grow older too...they are not as strong or as healthy as we always thought they were...the same goes to how they think we are still little kids...before we realise it, they're gone...forever...it's hard in the beginning, i've been through it, i know...i took many years to fully accept the fact that my dad's not outstation or in Japan, but gone forever... the other day i dreamt about him coming home with a lot of gifts...it was a nice dream...

now for Nick, i know it's difficult for him to accept and i think he's still in a blur stage...but i know over the years he's grown up and especially this couple of years, seeing everyone of us graduated and him still stranded studying, he wants to graduate too, and he's put in effort...we see that...so Mr Chew, although i've never known you or seen you, maybe i have but i don't know it's you, i think this came out of a sudden for you as well, i don't think you'd expect that you'll be gone this morning...but rest assured that your son Nick has matured, he'll take care of the family...do not worry...bless and protect your family, especially Nick's final exam in late July / early August...rest in peace Mr Chew...

yeah..this post kinda hit me in a way cuz my pops croaked last july. family life has never been the same. there's alot of relatives i don't even want to see anymore but my mom keeps aggravating me about it, telling me stuff about them that i didn't know and don't want to know. she says i'm avoiding it but the truth is, i don't want to know because sooner or later, she's going to ask why i don't want to see my grandparents. she needs to get a clue that it's because of the things she's been saying to me. and it's because of her being confrontational that i would always kick her out of my room.
