secretly stole some time out of my working hour (shhhh) to get these done, or else i don't know when am i able to get these up...

pleased to meet all you nice people at the party the other night!! had the honor to witness great performances by our very own AnD artists, though i felt out of place cuz all of a sudden, people i normally see online or from TV starts walking around me...haha, but nevertheless, it was something worth remembering!

Trip to Korea Oct 2008 Part 1: BKI-INC-GMP-CJU

this marks the start of my trip to Korea...
4 airports in a day...
departing from Kota Kinabalu International Airport at 0050hrs on 1 October 2008, i reached Incheon International Airport at 0700hrs after roughly 5 hours flight...
met Lee Gin, then started to find our way to the train terminal...
a very helpful airport staff on a buggy offered us a ride...
the ticket machine was kinda tricky, but we got our tickets in the end...
so we took a train ride to Gimpo International Airport seeking a flight to Jeju Island...
a couple of airport staff, DeokHyun & Hannah were really kind and helpful, they assisted in finding the cheapest and earliest flight to Jeju for us...God bless both of you, you two are angels!
and finally we went on the flight at 1045hrs (5 minutes delay) to Jeju Island...

first of all, i'd like to apologize for the lack of info in this album...
i let the photos load overnight bcuz there were so many of them! before i could edit and put in the description, comments are already pouring in!!

u guys are waaay fast! that's cool~

anyway, the USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19) docked at the Kota Kinabalu Port and guess what? i went on it!
well, with about 20 others from the Kinabalu Photography Club...we were invited to go on board to check out and take photos of the ship...ain't that cool!

infos about the Blue Ridge can be found in the Wikipedia page linked above...
frankly speaking, this was the first time i've ever been on board a navy ship...it was really huge! and i sorta exhausted my left leg which rewarded me with pain the next day

nonetheless, it was a great experience...very thankful to the USS Blue Ridge and our committee for arranging this, and thank you so much for the 4 guys that took us around the ship...

Gaya Street

Originally named Bond Street, Gaya Street located in the Kota Kinabalu Central Business District has been the centre of business for over a hundred years. The wooden shops with nipah roofs are long gone but here is where generations-old family businesses are still thriving passed down from father to son.

Every Sunday morning, the length of Gaya Street is closed off to traffic to make way for the Fair. Shop for anything under shady trees and over-sized umbrellas, like batik sarongs, fruits and flowers, arts and craft, footwear, antiques and souvenirs, cakes, even pets and herbs!. This is the best place to experience the cross-section of the local population when entire families enjoy a Sunday outing.

The Gaya Street Fair is on every Sunday from 6.30 am to 1.00 pm

Getting There
A short stroll from anywhere around the city or take public transport into town.

colleague Voon & i went to Wagamama Japanese Restaurant at Asia City Complex for lunch...gotta use the other discount coupon that i won before it expires...
then we headed to Palm Square, Centre Point for the 2007 State Chinese Calligraphy Competition Award Presentation Ceremony...

pictures taken in Malacca during my trip there 17th - 19th November 2007...
many pictures snapped in Jonker Walk were shot on the move, so they might be slightly blur in visual... enjoy!

since i'm posting, i might as well do some story telling for Malacca...
Malacca, the state, is where the history of Malaysia begins, as mentioned in our (Malaysian) text book since primary (elementary) school. Apart from the colorful stories of warriors and wise rulers, the highlight of Malacca is probably it's history of living through colonizations of the Portuguese in the 16th century, the Dutch in the 17th century, and the British in the 19th century. These European forces brought along their customs, and integrated with the locals, forming an east-west fusion in food and culture.

Another highlight is the Baba & Nyonya culture. Baba & Nyonya are the descendants of early Chinese immigrants to the state that resided and blended with the locals there after.

Tarap (Artocarpus odoratissmus), a member of the genus Artocarpus, is found extensively in Brunei Darussalam and parts of Sabah and Sarawak. This versatile tree has served the needs of the rural communities well providing food, nutrition and many other uses to the people of the region. The pulp of the fruit has delightful fragrant aroma, sweet, nutritious and has been used in many food preparations. The people also value the seeds. Roasted, the seed has firm texture, nutty, not too oil and has a taste reminiscent of chestnut. These features hold tremendous pontential for tarap fruit and seeds to be developed into food products.
