  • The Sixth Sense

    Sunday, Jun 21, 2009 11:40PM / Members only

Got this videoclip this week and I like to share with you, maybe it's a bit late...

This demo - from Pattie Maes' lab at MIT, spearheaded by Pranav Mistry - was the buzz of TED.

It's a wearable device with a projector that paves the way for profound interaction with our environment.  Can you imagine the technology in "Minority Report" and "Matrix" is available...

It's so impressed.  Nothing is impossible!  However there are people somewhere in the world still struggling for food, daily necessities and some are searching for their foods and toys in landfill...

I remember many years ago I have had an idea for an print ad of a new handycam, the selling point was "light weight".  Then, I came up with an idea to paint a hand as a handycam...  I was being judged as too gimmicky...

If this Sixth Sense system were available a few years ago before the death of the late multi-billionaire Mrs. N. Wang then it may have helped her revalling whom around her treated her for love or money.  Then it could have eliminated those superstitious...  Moreover, this could have at least prevented those horrible judgement of what she had done in the past. Sigh!

    Rest in peace.

How many roads must a man walk down
Before they call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
How many times must the cannon balls fly
    Before they're forever banned?

The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many years must a mountain exist
Before it is washed to the sea?
How many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
How many times can a man turn his head
And pretend that he just doesnt see?

The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
How many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
How many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?

The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
  • Loser Dog in Gou-Gou The Cat

    Tuesday, May 26, 2009 1:15AM / Members only

I bought 2 DVDs at Shibuya HMV. They are 市川崑物語 directed by 岩井俊二 (Iwai Shunji) and
グーグーだって猫である (Cher Gou-Gou...mon petit chat, mon petit ami) directed by 犬童一心 (Inudou Isshin).

The former one I haven't seen it yet.  The latter one, グーグーだって猫である is a story based on a manga created by 大島弓子 (Ōshima Yumiko).  IIt described the manga creator starring 小泉
今日子(Kyôko Koizumi) and her 2 cats (サバ who passed away and the new cat グーグー Gou-Gou)
in her neighborhood.  Through her manga, she brings happiness to her readers however in reality she's lonely. Life is full of contradictions that leads to a great sense of helplessness. Luckily, she regains her happiness in the end of the movie.

I have similar experience that one of my cats passed away.  He’s the forever smiling father cat.  Now, I am with his son, little orange lion.

The movie features the small community she lived in at 吉祥寺 with her friends.  There are some small towns like 吉祥寺 (Kichijōji), 下北沢 (shimokitazawa), 自由が丘 (jiyugaoka), 代官山(Daikanyama)... They're like back doors of downtown Tokyo - leisure places to hang out, friendly neighborhood, an unique pace of life.  It is very contrast with those places such as Ginza, Shibuya...

If you planned to have a trip to Tokyo, try avoiding going to popular tourist spots and take a walk in 吉祥寺, 下北沢, 代官山 or 自由が丘.  I am sure you are going to have lots of interesting exploration in those novelty shops, Japanese street performers,小劇場,雑貨屋,古着屋 and cafes, those old and new has co-existed together with harmony.

Have you noticed that except many crows there are lots of cats outside neighborhood in Tokyo. Not sure whether they are pets or stray cats.  When I first arrived in Tokyo in 2004, I stayed in a service apartment at Hamamatsuchō for my first month of overseas stay.  Every night,
I watched the lights on Tokyo Tower turned off.  At this hour,
lots of cats wandering around on the street, some of them playing, some of them waiting for food.  Sometimes, I will buy them milk at the Konbini.  They seemed to have a good time, enjoying the freedom...
  • Tokyo Food File 05 - Flavor of 屋台

    Monday, Apr 27, 2009 1:32AM / Members only

I read an article today saying that there's less and less 屋台(やたい) in Tokyo.

屋台 is a small, mobile food stall selling noodles or other simple hot food on the street in Japan.  I can understand why.  It is because when those 屋台 become popular that they will move to a proper place instead of staying on the streets. They changed to be 居酒屋(いざかや). Just like 大排檔(Daipaidong) in Hong Kong, nearly most of them moved into market complex or shops.

The flavor changes to another thing and is very different.  Fondly remembering the Summertime that I spent at my friend's 屋台 in between Shibuya 渋谷 and Daikanyama 代官山.  He just put a various kinds of liquor, Shōchū with hot snacks there and played till dawn. Those 屋台 will never be found in HK...

This February, I went to an 居酒屋 (いざかや) at 品川 東大井. It's been more than a year that I went there for dinner last time.

^This is my favorite - Mochi with different miso sauce

My friends and I enjoyed a tasty dinner there, the owner also told me one of my Japanese friends opened an upstair bar opposite the street.  Luckily that the bar was closed on Sundays otherwise my friends and I will kept drinking overnight and most likely I will end up get so drunk and might do the same as Kusanagi-san yelling and running naked on the street.  (^____^)"|

p.s. Very often there were announcements of "人身事故" in some train stations on Fridays and Saturdays night, probably because they got so drunk, felt lonely, stressful or miserable... and fell into the rail.

  • Green Tea

    Monday, Apr 20, 2009 10:40PM / Members only

Would you like some green tea from Shizuoka?

In Western TV drama series or movies, it's very common the guy will suggest the girl to come to his place for coffee after a date...

In Japan, my colleagues told me that instead of coffee, they offer Green Tea from Shizuoka.  The girl will take the cue...  I haven't try it but they said it works.  Please correct me if this is not the case as they always play tricks on me.

I went to a Farm in Shizuoka this February, fresh milk, ice-cream, cheese and sausages are much more tempting...

Here are some photos taken from the Farm. Enjoy!

no way~ Haruki rarely appears in TV programs and awards. so his apprearance in Israel book award is exception. you know, he wanted to insist the peace between Israelis and Palestinians there.
so you used to go to Aoyama Book center in Roppongi?
