I finally found some answers to questions which were in my mind for some time. My question was,why do movies fascinate me and why do I watch them, what is so important about movies. though yes, there are many different answers and some answerts change from time to time, I think mocvies are one of the broadest ways to learn the cultures of different countries, and yes, that was how my mother introduced my ancestral country and its culture. Movies,as stated in one website,is "how change during the past to present is shown, and how we evolve as a people, community and world. We learn all genres, styles, and mannerisms, all times from movies. My wish and hope is that wordwide more movie producers will intertwine, work ,and make movies together inter-countryly. This being the peaceful way.
My interest in movies started humbly. We lived in a touristy town of San Francisco, and my mother enjoyed bringing me to the Chinatown movies where we frequently watched the Chinese action and swordfight movies. What disgruntles me most is "dubbing" in movies,I'd prefer to watch movies in the native languages of the countries they're made with subtitles. That dubbing must Go!
But anyway, there were 3 theaters all centered in the Japan cultural Center and around the neighboring area from Laguna st.Buchannan St,and Sutter Streets. Situated on Post Street and Buchannan Streets was the Kokusai theater(International Theater) which has long been changed into a take-out-food place. But it was family-owned, and it was exciting to watch for the coming movies with all the colorful movie posters in the show-windows. Another place we watched movies was Kinmon Gakuen(Golden Gate School) which I also learned Japanese. Movies were shown inside that school auditorium, a very old auditorium with old wooden floors and fold-up chairs. Sokoji Hall, situated on Pine Street was originally a Jewish Temple, but by the l960s was used for Zen meditators and a place where old movies were shown in the evening. I remember the benches of strawy stuffings and the dark maroon color clothe and the pingpon table in the back room behind the movie screen. The huge modern theater on Post Street was originally a place where extravagant traditional stage shows like Takarazuka and Buyo were shown. These are just tidbits of information.
Iam starting blogs with international movie and film producers. My biggest wish is for world peace through producers of movies. I hope to see more of my favorite actors, especially Jet Li in movies throughouot the world!
