I think he was a man who committed an atrocious crime which impugned his family - his religion - and his country.  He also reneged on his contract with the Army where he got his education.  Could anyone have predicted this?  Probably not.  What a cowardly act of betrayal to those you are sworn to protect and defend.  And I do not support the war in Iraq and question the efficacy of Afghanistan at this point.   In a wicked twist of fate the shooter did not die.  Now his explanations and excuses will be played out in the investigations and in the press for some time to come.  What a horror for those involved and their families.  Islam is not to blame.  He was not educated in a madras.  He should have just went AWOL if he held these beliefs.

QUOTE:
At least six months ago, Hasan came to the attention of law enforcement officials because of Internet  postings about suicide bombings and other threats, including posts that equated suicide bombers to  soldiers who throw themselves on a grenade to save the lives of their comrades.
.
Theyhad not determined for certain whether Hasan is the author of theposting, and a formal investigation had not been opened before theshooting, said law enforcement officials who spoke on condition ofanonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the case.
.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Hasan's aunt, Noel Hasan of Falls Church, Va., said he  had been harassed about being a Muslim in the years after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks and he wanted out of the Army.
.

"Some people can take it and some people cannot," she said. "He had listened to all of that and he wanted out of the military."
.

Shesaid he had sought a discharge from the military for several years, andeven offered to repay the cost of his medical training.

LINK.
.

That last sentence doesn't make sense.  Lots of people get out of the military at all different periods of their service careers.
.

And why couldn't they determine for certain whether Hasan was the author of the "Internet  postings about suicide bombings and other threats, including posts that equated suicide bombers to  soldiers who throw themselves on a grenade to save the lives of their comrades."  They had 6 months.  They should have been able to find out in 6 days.
.
.

And I'm getting sick of the way this board screws up the spacing, and jams words together!

That's terrible , that this men go down in a wrong way of religion , and  the worst ,how a  psychiatrist  could do  that ? , that's incredible . In all countries there are persons who go down in a wrong way of islamism , that's very dangerous , they don't want  the progress , they return to "obscurantism " . That's frighten me.
