Subject: Farewell and Goodbye [Print This Page]

Author: markmoran    Time: 2008-9-29 08:54 PM     Subject: Farewell and Goodbye

It is with a heavy heart and much gravitas in my voice (which you can't hear, but believe me -- it is totally there) that I must bid a fond farewell to The Official Jet Li Website and alivenotdead.com.

Yes, I'm leaving.  I officially stop working at alivenotdead on October 31.  After that I will slowly help transition maintenance and the redesign of jetli.com over to others.  By the end of the year I will be here only as a user and fan.

It is a little bitter-sweet, as I'm not really disappearing.  I might be leaving, but I won't truly be "gone".   I still plan to be around from time to time, lending a hand when needed, but no longer as the webmaster for JetLi's website.

It hasn't been decided who at alivenotdead will take over in my stead, but I'm sure it will be someone that can move this website forward in a positive, growth-oriented and dynamic direction.   From what I understand the future of jetli.com should be a good one.  They have some great things planned and even though I won't be a part of it, I am really looking forward to experiencing the progress this site will continue to make in the years to come.   This site has some great potential and I hope it can someday be realized.

I'd also like to thank Jet Li.  He may never read this, but meh .. whatever.  I'll thank him anyway.  He's been a great supporter of this website and it has been a pleasure and an honor working with him for all these years.  Truly an experience I will never forget (and will unfortunately never be able to write down thanks to an NDA I signed back in 1999.)

Thanks also to Beaver, Jason, Ryan, Vincent, Jenn, Susy and the billion other people I've met over the years working for Jet.  I won't write more than that since I'm still friends with them and its not like I can't just call them up and thank them in person.

It has been a long journey.  Over 10 years now since the inception of this website.  I helped give birth to it .. I've been working here, coding and designing every square inch of the place for such a long time.  Its weird to think that it is all coming to an end.

Some years were good and we had Jet coming on the website all the time, interacting with the users and filling our pages with content.  And some years were not so good, where Jet was busy with other things, and I was spread too thin to adequately keep up the site.

But through all of that you fans have been here supporting our efforts and keeping the community alive.  You've been the glue that has held this place together; you are the mortar that keeps our bricks from tumbling down; you are the reason there is a jetli.com at all.

For all of your support and positive encouragement over the years, I thank you.

For all the friends that have come in to my life through this website, I am wonderfully grateful.

And for a future we all might share together, bright with promise and anticipation I am so very excited.

Take care of yourselves, take care of each other, and I wish you and your families all the best.

- Mark

Wow. That's some big news Mark.  I'm sorry to hear that your 'retiring' as webmaster.  It's good to know that you will still be hanging around.

You've been such an intregrate part of this for so long.  I hope that your future indeavors are even more fulfilling. I have grown to love this place and all that it is.

Thanks for all you have done, and will do, to make this place so amazing.

Deep down inside I had a feeling this was going to be the "big news" you eluded to in your blog.  Damn, I'm right.

Even though I've only been visiting (since April 2006) and posting (since August 2006), this is truly the greatest website in the world!!!!  And all thanks to you, and the hard work of your friends, but we know that you put in so much heart and soul into this to make it what it is which is brilliant!  Not only that, you helped quell any wild rumors and set fans on the straight and narrow path.  I hope there's somebody that will do the same in your stead.

Please don't disappear off the grid.  I hope to hear about the next chapter in your life and to share it virtually.

Thanks for all you've done, Mark!!!

I wish you a good luck . And I hope that the site will continue for a long time.

This is the worst possible news, Mark!  You're the only admin I know... and I've known you for seven years.  You're like my adopted son.

But I'm sure you have your reasons for leaving, and we must respect them.  Whatever your next job is, they'll be getting a heck of a hard worker.

I hope you're true to your word and pop in to post whenever you can, and keep up your blog so we'll know what you're up to.

Thanks for all you've done for us over the years, and for leaving us with that great pic of JET and you!

Good luck and good-bye, Mark.

I am sorry to hear that you won't be the webmaster here any longer Mark. Your work for this site was great. You put your heart and soul into it and it showed.  I know that where ever you will be working now will be lucky to have you and I hope that it is all that you wish for and more.

I am glad that you will still be hanging around.

I know I should be happy for you because you've made a decision that it's time to move on but the taste is somewhat bittersweet instead.  You've created a wonderful place to go to, to read and learn and chat with people of like mind (appreciators of Jet Li, the actor and the man).  The tone of this place is fun and nice, not abusive and provoking.  That is attributable in large measure to you.

Ditto on what everyone else eloquently expressed.  Tell us what you're up to, where you're going, how you're doing.  Please.

I'm sure this was a great gig for you.  At the same time, Jet was lucky to have found you.

Here's one to you Mark!   Ganbei!  :bighug:

Hmm, if you come back as a regular poster I can disagree with you without threats of bamnation. I like this. But it's going to be tough on you. : Although the board's changed so much there probably won't be much to disagree on. Damn.

Adios, Mark. Happy trails to you cranky, unpredictable, one-word replying, old webmaster dude.

Better not be a stranger Mark because there are atleast half a dozen people who know how to hunt you down around here. heehee.

Take care and thanks for being all awesom and stuff and for creating an equally awesom and stuff site for us all the hang in.

Holy crap!

Well I guess I can't be surprised, its been 10 years and that is a long time being a webmaster for a site.  All the hard work you have put in over the years is incredible. I've said many times how much I love your work here. Total respect.

I do hope the next person who comes along doesn't take away the community/family atmosphere the Jet Li site has.

I really wish you all the best of luck in your new endeavors.

Good luck, Mark! And thank you!

Hello, my name is Irma and I love Jet Li.  I am also a graphic design student at Cuyamaca College, about to get my Graphic Design degree.  I would love to be friends with you.  I was wondering who is taking over the Official Site of Jet Li?  Please write back.  Thank you.

Dear Mark, I am so sad when I hear this news. I know 10-years isn't a short time, you gave the website the new life and it grew up day by day under your heart, just like a baby . And it also gave us much happy time and help (especially on my English ability ) but now you decide to leave it, it must be so hard to make the decision, and it must have some reason that you have to leave. Though I really sad, but this is your decision, I support you!!

I know it must be not easy to maintain the website, as an official website ,you can't put all the news on the website like others  about Jet, you should keep the official sense, especially for these years, Jet put all his life on the philanthropy, just as you said he was so busy and hard on it, so maybe he had little time share with you, which made you more difficult , so really thank you for your effort for so long time, and please forgive Jet's "little time". I don't know without you, if the website can also be so wonderful........We will miss you and please take care of yourself, and hope we also can meet you on the AND frequently .Wish you sincerely....

Mark Sir,

I am not so old timer here. In fact, I have been gone for some time. I have not made conversations with you yet and now you'd be gone. That's sad, but I'm sure something greater is in store for you.

Have a great journey ahead Sir.

Has Mark been knighted?
Author: markmoran    Time: 2008-10-21 03:12 PM

That would have been "Sir Mark" not "Mark Sir".

Depends on the origin of the poster....for instance, in French, the noun comes first and then the adjective.... (house blue)....so, it may have been customary for that poster to swap the two words around  (Mark Sir vs. Sir Mark).  Go with SIR MARK, Mark...it'll look good on the old resume!
Author: markmoran    Time: 2008-10-21 08:47 PM

AH, well, since the term "knight" was used I assumed you were asking if I was knighted by the British Empire.  If it had been a French knighting you would have used the term "Chevalier" as that is the correct termof reference for a knight in France.  Likewise, if it was Spain it would have "Caballero", Italian "Cavaliere", German "Ritter" (who knew Jack was so noble?), Swedish "Riddare" and Polish "Kawaler" (or Rycerz if it was in the middle ages in Poland).

Of course the origin of the word comes from the Old English word "cniht" which means "boy" or "youth" or possibly "servant" so you could have also just called me "Boy Mark", but I probably wouldn't have taken it the same way.  ;-)

Oh, Sir Mark....I've had Stevie Wonder's Sir Duke playing non-stop in my head since last night.  Good tune!  Played it in high school.....

I think it could be your theme song, just changeout the word duke for Mark....or make it Sir Dude....now that's tubular!   BONZAI!!!!

Shouldn't you be packing, oh Caballero one?
