So Dan and Con need scripts written phonetically (or Con basically ad-libs judging from the last roles I've seen). I recall seeing a vid of Dan needing that. Thought perhaps he'd learned some reading of Chinese, him being so 'smart' and all. ;)

They probably don't HAVE to have them written phonetically all the time. I know Daniel did it with Love Undercover, but I think they probably have enough understanding of the language to just translate the lines. I know Edison does that.

That must be SO LONG doing & reading a whole script phonetically. I don't understand how it can be read or remembered all in english sounds. Well maybe with the help of the lines translated like Shorty said, it's easier to figure out. But with Edison, he has song lyrics and scipts to memorise phonetically

The script prolly just gives him a basic understanding of what he needs to say in his little scenes. At least he knows enough canto/mando to go with the flow and enable him to get from point A to point B in his scenes. He does seem to have some brains going for him.

I understand why knowing how to read Chinese is different from knowing how to write it. Got it, folks. No more explanations needed. Thank you very much.

Besides, if he forgets his line, he's got people to read it out for him. When you are actually filming, you can't use your script but people read out your lines to you.
