nice...but erm...one thing...does it bother anyone tht the ad is about the watch while the watch is BARELY visible on Daniel's wrist???

personally...i think he could have wear his watch on his right hand instead. compare this with Miriam's ad...her seems more 'SEIKO Ad' then Daniel's...i definitely see Miriam's ad works better.

this bring to some questions.

- does the model himself/herself get to decide how he/she wanna do the ad? can you speak what you wanna do with the art direction?

- also, do you get to choose which photo you prefer to be use as the final print?

thank you!

I thought he was wearing a fake Rolex.

And it is weird how it's not on the right-hand wrist where you can see the watch better. Maybe it wants to be one of those other ads where they almost don't show the product. Lots of those around.

Who knows if the talent has their input (if any) taken seriously by the art director or photogs. Prolly yes and no.

And, no, I don't think the talent usually gets to choose what image gets put into the ad, unless they're the kind who want total control over their image and put stipulations into their contract whether or not about final ad approval and stuff.

phew!! glad someone has the same prespective about the ad as i do!!!
i thought i'd probably get 'mob' by Daniel's fans for it...hahaha!!!!!
but hmm...you are his fan too....so am i...dang going crazy...but still, i see it professionally wise. hahah!!

*five*

anyway, i guess SEIKO wanna show as much of Daniel as possible instead of the watch. you know like those car ads tht make no sense but to show pretty face? but i definitely prefer Miriam's ad for this one.

also it might be budget wise issue? like the took too much time taking pic and the best shot is the one used now...so...but SEIKO is big company!!!

for me, if i'm the photographer, i will listen to whatever input anyone has in the room together. sometimes as a creative person, you see things so differently tht you forget about the basic normal prespective. i prefer ppl telling me what they feel, i analyze and balance it if needed. and hack! sometimes, i would just try their idea instead!!!

haha...i seem to ask the questions and answer it myself. LOL!!!

Well, there's only so much you can do with a watch and the person/talent. It wouldn't be very classy to like put the watch around his head or on his ankle or around his fingers (well, this you could do). yah knoooow?

i guess for the advertisers, probably it's sufficient to put the close up blown up picture of the watch Dan Wu has chosen...as the small print says "Selected by Daniel...". So as long as Dan Wu wears the watch, it doesnt matter that it can't be seen clearly? And there's no incentive of why they wun put the real watch on him during the ad...?

Tot normally those Omega watches are also like that...those sportswomen celebrities. So and so's choice under the blown up picture of the watch...

the watch is secondary pretty much...they use daniel's face to get your attention, and while your attention is focused on him because you're thinking "Hey, that's Dan Wu" your eyes eventually go over the whole ad and the next time you think of Dan, you think of Seiko watches...or so they hope...

so here comes another question,
how many percent do you think really go buy watch just cause of Daniel's "face"?
does tht even make sense?

i buy watch, i'd look at the watch instead of who's wearing it.
of course showing who's wearing it will boost up the brand of the watch, and personally, i'd be influence like 30% of the rep tht's wearing the watch in the ad. mostly of the person's attitdue or ability or professionalism or success. definitely not just face.

but all and all, i think the price, the shape, the color of the watch has much more influence in a person's decision then face. i personally think using celebrities on the ad is just a way to position the brand, not sales.

please feel free to discuss.

NOTE: people, please, i'm just making this as question. nothingagainst any racism or towards any individual target, and most definitely nothing personal. i'm a graphicdesigner myself. asking this just so as i can understand how publicfeels about advertising tht's bombarding in our daily life, lifestyle, and how much it influence an individual. thanks for your input.

Public figures and celebs are sought for endorsements for a combination of the following reasons:
image, persona, positive attributes (successful, humanitarian, clean-cut, good-looking, top in their field, etc.), popularity.

You want your watch to represent sophistication or sportiness or sexiness, you find the right artist or public figure or sports figure. Also, obviously, having some known faces tied to the product makes the ad's or product's impression more lasting than if no popular face was present.

There is the subconscious working here too. I wanna be like DW or I wanna do something DW would do, ergo, I'm gonna be more receptive to Seiko watches than other brands of watches. blahblah.
