RESOLVED: Suggestion: User choice for blog entry interface
I wanted to put out there a suggestion for letting the user decide between a no frills text area to type in their blogs or the editor that's currently there. I know one of my friends can't blog because they can't see the text box and it's more than likely because they don't have javascript enabled. Just thought it could be something the AnD team could consider for userability since some disable certain things for security reasons
Cheers!

Are you talking about me? Hahaha. I think it's more the browser. I don't have Firefox. Smiley's don't work. I can't PM people. I can't upload pics from a URL, cause it does nothing when I click that option.
And I've never gotten an answer here to one of my questions/problems. "Take me back to old Jetli.com/gfn/forum..."
Thx, Chellie anyway.

I think Chelle might be on to something.
I ran into some problems trying to post from a new PC which did not have Java installed. After installing it I
had no more problems.I use the clumsy IE and have no problems.
I saw your post on the MB,Nightbird and I was about to crack a joke but then I realized who I was taking on and chickened out.Haha!

Hi,
can you be more specific about the browser your using?? I'll be working on the blogging editor in the coming weeks, although the coming features will tend to be javascript heavy.
I just tried using the site with javascript turned off and wasn't even able to log in, so I think the problem could just be with browser incompatibilities.
The major browser we're trying to smooth over is Safari for the mac. But most of the other popular ones (IE/Firefox) should work fine on either PC or Mac.
My sig.

Indeed I was
Woody: I've run into similar things with the posting blogs on myspace if Java wasn't enabled. Which is why I offered up the suggestion to give users a choice..much like they have between the WYSIWYG editor and the Discuz! code in the forums right now.

The fully-featured editor is provided to all browsers except for Safari for the Mac. The editor has been tested and should work for Internet Explorer 6 and above and Firefox 1.5 and above. This covers about 95% of our users. In addition, for Mac users using the Safari browser, we provide a no-frills editor that allows you to enter in HTML directly. Safari 2 doesn't currently support alot of the features necessary for the fully-featured browser. Safari 3 is currently in beta testing, and when it comes out, we should be able to support the fully-featured version as well.

Well, my IE is below 6 and it works for me.
Ah, so that's what the 'html' box is for.
Thx, Stephen.
