  long time no blog.  stupid wildfires suck.  everything smells like smoke, ash all over the place.  people losing their homes and landmarks.... closest fire to me was santiago canyon/irvine lake wildfire.  driving down the street, you could see the hills ablaze.  my sister's highschool was close to the path of it.  but the winds changed and it went the other direction.  good for us, but bad for others..

  1.  in a school of 90% latinos, never explain the Pauli exclusion principle (sublevels can only have 2 electrons each) as a car that can have only so many passengers.  "5 people is the max.  you can try to stuff more people in that car, like 7 people if you're going out to a party, or 8 people if you stuff 1 in the trunk, or a few more like if you're bringing in illegal immigrants from mexico."   I caught myself before i actually said the last one.... (but the students already knew where i was going with that...haha)

  2.  never draw bohr atoms to explain bonding and only draw a dot for the electrons in each and only 2 energy levels if you are a bad artist.

  

   

  3.  never try to draw the safe way to heat a test tube over a flame if you are a bad artist.

  i have a passion for food.  i love to cook (but i'm just too lazy lately).  i love to eat (it's called gluttony).  i love seeing new cooking techniques and tasting new food.  when bravo tv came out with their new show, TOP CHEF, i was hooked.  elimination challenges for really creative young chefs.  simply awesome what they are producing in the limited time they are given.

  for any that have spent a significant amount of time around me, you know that i'm not much for conversation.  i just simply don't seem to have much to talk about in interpersonal situations and not too good with starting conversations.

  but, oddly enough, i really like giving extemporaneous presentations.  i have lecture notes, but i make up what i'm gonna say on the fly.  i have fun saying random things that closely relate to the subject matter at hand.  i make my students laugh, both at me and with me.  i talk so much that i don't shut up and almost hold my students into the next class.  i enjoy my job.  i just hate grading  :P
