and why do i say this? am i sucking up to my friends so i'll have a free place to stay over the summer?
not at all
simply, i'm impressed with all the artist exposure. because back in my days of highschool (about 15 years ago....ugh...) i was really into cantopop and really tried to find all i could. thanks to my parents, the internet and local chinese music stores i was able to hear artists like sam hui, adam cheng (personal favorite), andy, leon, aaron, vivian chow, vivian lai, faye wong...... but after a while, my music tastes started to change. i was listening to more alt rock and punk . I began to dislike all the sappy love songs that the HK stars kept recording and wanted to hear HK rock if it even existed.... but back then, there was just about nothing and what there was just wasn't all that good (no offense).. i haven't listened to HK music since about 1998 or so and haven't tried looking now because the "pop" stars still produced the same sappy generic sounding love songs.
as i start to browse around alivenotdead.com, i'm getting a taste of what i'd been looking for for such a long time which is chinese rock that doesn't suck. i'm looking all you guys up on youtube to see what you're like, and so far i'm pretty impressed at the maturity of the music i hear and the energetic fan base that are really embracing new music. it's really encouraging to see and i hope that this trend continues and evolves to a more global audience.

just caught this documentary on PBS http://www.slantedscreen.com...well, i didn't mean to, just channel surfing and came across it....and actually sat through the last half hour of it.
anyone interested in hollywood portrayal of asians and asians desiring to "break into the industry", it's worth watching.

saw hot fuzz this weekend. damn..it was funny. definitely a must see.
more interestingly tho, saw a trailer for balls of fury. this movie looks awesome! and maggie q is in it too, which makes for another good reason to see it..hehe
