This post is for Ed … who couldn’t make it with me to Kuala Lumpur last weekend so missed out eating at on one of our favorite joints – DIY teppan-style restaurant Pepper Lunch.

SooOoo good … nothing like a sizzling plate of beef which you cook yourself.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh … mecha mecha oishii desu …

actually i had no idea the name of this chain was 'pepper lunch' til I saw one in Singapore.  in Japanese the name is 'Peparanchi',  which i assumed was some sort of weird japanism made from the word pepperoni....

You have to start mixing the rice really quickly, so it doesn't stick to the bottom of the pan, and there is actually a secret stash of butter inside the rice to add extra flavour to it.

If you cook it right (like I do) then the whole thing is evenly cooked and parts of it a a little bit crunchy, which is so awesome.

Since there is a big clump on rice on the platter, does the bottom of the rice get really brown and crunchy?
