  • Who I'd like to meet and why

    Tuesday, Nov 11, 2008 7:55PM / Standard Entry

As I have already said, I don't really have heroes. What I do have is a list of people I'd like to meet. Each is someone I respect and admire because of, in my opinion, their exceptional ability to express themselves in areas I am passionate about. I want to talk to and ask them questions about their chosen field. Most of the people on this list I have admired for more years then I care to admit because it would really show my age .

I have always said that if I could meet this person or that person I would just want 5 minutes with them to talk to them. Its so hard for me to explain my feelings about this so I thought if I give one question as an example you may be able to understand why they mean what they do to me. They are listed in no particular order, they are all equally talented in their fields to me.

1st is James Taylor, I've had two opportunities to meet him and will one day. One question would be is how he can still sing "Fire and Rain", 40 years later, with the same feeling and love he had back then.

2nd is Stephen King, I have been to Bangor, seen his house and will be able to meet him someday. The one question to him would be, did the car accident change his "beliefs" and what he choses to write about.

3rd is Greg Louganis, I met him!!!! He's awesome!! However I was only a kid and too nervous to ask anything. I just stood there and smiled stupidly. My question to him would be how hard was it to not only have to get back up on the board and dive after hitting his head, but all the emotional issues surrounding that, being gay, AIDS, etc.

4th is Mikhail Baryshnikov, not sure I'll ever get the chance, but would love to. I would ask how hard it was to leave his country and his life, knowing if he was caught what he would face, and finding out that he would be erased from their history as though he never existed.

5th would be Jet Li. First, because he reminds me of my Sensei, Chris Giordano who is one of my TRUE HEROES. I honestly don't know what my one question to him would be. I guess I would just thank him for validating a belief in martial arts that I was beginning to think my Sensei made up.

In addition to their chosen fields, they all have given back to the community in major ways. Both in humanitarian work and artistically. Some may be more known for it then the others, but their work to me is equally important and is all the more reason I admire them.

I know everyone wants to meet someone and they all have their reasons for it. For me it’s an opportunity to get into the mind of someone who is using their chosen field to express their spirit. Not only that they "give back". To me, they are both the most incredibly complicated, daring, fearless things a person can do and what I hope I can accomplish in my life.

  • My Heros

    Tuesday, Nov 11, 2008 6:58PM / Standard Entry

My heroes are my family, friends and the people I've who I've been fortunate enough to have had in my life at one time or another. I try never to judge another soul, for what they contribute to the world. The way I look at it, you never know who's life you could change or vice versa, and if we think of that every time we meet someone; the world might be a more positive and trusting place.

My Grandfather, Grandmother, Mother, Uncle a police officer, my brothers and many more! Heroes to me are people who help other people. I have mothers, fathers, policemen, firemen, teachers, coaches, doctors, nurses, artists, athletes, producers, TV personalities, chefs, and those who work with the public in all areas in my circle of family and friends. They are all my HEROES!!!!

I have "famous people" and "regular people" in my circle and there is no one person who is more important then the other. I have such a respect and admiration for people in all of these fields.

I think that anyone who follows their dreams or pursues their passion are heroes to everyone. By doing that, they inspire, teach, motivate, and share all that they know with others.

  • interesting quotes

    Tuesday, Nov 11, 2008 8:49AM / Standard Entry

I love quotes, I admit it. I collect them. I had pages of them from over the years and when I got my new computer a few years ago I lost them. It made me sad at first but I really am a believer of "everything happens for a reason".
So now I'm trying to start a new collection. I will add to this whenever I find one I like. They are totally random and have to do with every subject imaginable, or at least every subject I can imagine.
I hope you enjoy them and maybe find something that lifts your spirits when your down or brings you back to earth if your feeling better then everyone else. Because one thing I believe more then anything else is this, "we are no better or worse then anyone else and we all have the potential to be the next Mozart, Shakespeare, Di Vinci, or Einstein". I don't know if someone else said that or not but I'm pretty sure I didn't come up with it all by myself hehe so I put quotes around it!

If anyone has any quotes they want to share I'd love to here them! So please share and leave comments!

  • An interesting site to check out

    Thursday, Nov 6, 2008 10:51PM / Standard Entry

Someone emailed me a video from this site and I just thought it was a great video so I went to the site to check it out. What I have found is a site for anyone and everyone who wants to learn about anything or everything.

    http://www.ted.com/

These videos are talks given by people from every level of the field the topic is on. The cool thing is that they are supposed to be 18 minutes or less. Imagine, explaining something that you are so passionate about that you have made it your career or lifelong goal to learn as much as you can, in 18 minutes or less. (as anyone who knows me knows I have a LONG way to go before I can do that ). The variety is so unbelievable. They are funny, poetic, serious and so much more. I swear there is something for everyone.

I am putting a few videos up on here (or links to them, I'm not sure which will work) that I liked as examples. However I can't stress this enough, these are just an examples of some of the videos of things I'm passionate about The subjects this site covers and the people on it are to diverse to try to explain here. History, literature, global warming, entertainment, music, religion, literally anything you can think of is on this site. So if you aren't interested in these topics I hope you will check out the site for yourself.

Well thats all for now!! Please leave comments and let me know what you think about the site and if you like it pass it on to others!!!

    Take care!!!!!

  • "Hollywood"

    Thursday, Nov 6, 2008 1:24PM / Standard Entry

This is something I wrote a few months ago that I thought I'd post on here and see what others think so here goes............

I am in the process of changing careers, I have always loved to write and I have decided that I want to pursue it professionally. There are two projects I am currently working on, a script and a book. Because one stemmed from the other, I keep bouncing back and forth between the two. However, they are both very different ideas on the surface.

Needless to say I'm doing a ton of research, a good bit on the internet, and I have some opinions on the entertainment industry, particularly film. I actually feel I should say movies, I think there is a distinct difference between the two, and not in a judgmental way either.

In the last few years, movies are becoming more and more the same to me. I don't go the the movies much at all, I do by DVDs of the movies I like. Besides movie theaters becoming so expensive and commercialized, most movies just aren't that good anymore. To me they are all about special effects, and the plot and script don't seem to be as important. I guess with all the explosions and car chases maybe they don't think we'd be able to hear it anyway so why bother. I'm kidding of course but seriously, its hard for me to think of five movies (from the last few years) off the top of my head that I can honestly say I loved and I'd watch over and over.

I've also noticed when I look at people's profiles on different sites its interesting what they have listed under "favorite movies". Regardless of age of the person, most titles are at least 5 years old and even fewer are big special effects movies. I could name movies as examples for both sides of the argument, but I don't want to judge anyone else's taste in movies. Besides, thats not the point of this. I am speaking about the film industry in general (what I like to call "Hollywood"), not peoples taste in movies.

I think "Hollywood" has decided everything has to be bigger, the story isn't the most important part. They think the audience will only go see a movie with even more effects then the last one. I also think they are responsible for some of the best films in recent years not being box office hits. More importantly, I'm sure there are stories not even being made into movies because they think the "appeal factor" isn't high enough.

In my opinion the biggest reason these big blockbuster movies make so much money is this..."Hollywood" inundates us with advertising. They start sometimes three or four months before the movie is released and its everywhere! I remember watching an awards show last year and the show was sponsered by a MOVIE! I couldn't believe it! How is that possible? Then you have the toys and games, some of which come out BEFORE the movie! By the time the movie comes out, people almost feel the have to see it or they will miss out on something huge.

Understand something, I have nothing against any of these movies. I actually have liked some of them, but I don't many of them will be on people's fav list 5 years from now. Its "Hollywood" that feels this way about the audience and I honestly think they are wrong, but we kept flocking to the theater and so of course they think their right. Because of this there were so many stories that aren't being shared and that makes me sad.

But I now see a light at the end of the tunnel. Times are changing and I'm seeing so many examples that prove this and I'm sure there are hundreds more that I know nothing about. The biggest one is all the small budget and independent films being made and doing extremely well considering the lack of funding and advertising they have. These films are drawing actors, directors, producers, and such, who are considered top in their industries; to work on them and supporting them.

More and more people are looking for these types of films to see in theaters, on video, on the internet and on TV. I swear at least once I week, someone says they just saw a movie that was so good and you have to see it. When they say the name of it no one has heard of it! Yet when we watch it we all agree! Then you add in the people you communicate with on the 'net and its almost unbelievable to me how many movies there are that we knew (and still know) nothing about!

It makes me so happy to see all these things happening and I hope that this continues so that "Hollywood" can catch on too!!!!!!!!
