  • I thought of Butter! Plus, a 2nd practice?

    Thursday, Aug 28, 2008 12:30PM / Standard Entry / Members only

You know what I love about Hong Kong this time of year?... THE SALES!!! Shoes over $1000HK reduced to under $400HK. How could I resist?
I got these lovely shoes a few days ago (a pair of JLos and Steve Maddens):

As I tried on the red pair, I thought of Butter and her gravitation toward RED shoes... This is my first pair of red shoes... and Butter's right. Red shoes do turn heads and shout for attention!

I might be starting a 2nd practice on the South Side of Hong Kong (this is where not many Hong Kong visitors visit unless they're visiting the beach or friends who live on the South Side). I just need to figure out which half days to choose, and I'll be set. Here are some photos from the plaza where the clinic is at:

There's a waterfall on the right hand side, but it's hard to see. This is one of the staircases leading to the "health" wing of the plaza on the 2nd floor, where the clinic I'll be working at is located.

And this is the view from the 2nd floor. You can catch a glimpse of the ocean... A very tranquil and relaxed atmosphere. Very different from the tall concrete (skyscrapers) in Central, where I'm currently working. I guess there are advantages to both...

  • Sheraton Laguna Resort... and the end of summer (and the Olympics)

    Sunday, Aug 24, 2008 10:45PM / Standard Entry / Members only

Didn't get a chance to blog about this hotel when we visited a few months back. We got one of the lagoon-access rooms. The room was really big, the decor was refreshing and relaxing, the butler service impeccable.

This is me, with the balcony leading to the lagoon behind me.

The washroom was spacious. And you could actually look out into the room from the bathtub (you can't see the window in this photo, but it's on the other side of the bathtub).

There were several restaurants at the resort. One of them was by the seaside. We decided to dine there to watch the sunset one evening. Very romantic and lovely.

Where was the last place you guys visited for vacation? I know many AnDers had a wonderful summer and visited different places for vacation. Some are still on vacation (SHOUT OUT to those still in Hong Kong! )....
Not counting Shenzhen (since it's so close to Hong Kong!), Bali was the last place I visited for vacation (back in May). I've been working hard trying to establish my practice since my relocation to Hong Kong in May... So probably no vacation until Christmas, perhaps?

Summer holiday is coming to an end... I just finished watching the OIympics Closing Ceremony. What an awesome 16 days! Cheers, tears and everything in between... See you in 4 years, summer athletes, in LONDON!

  • Typhoon Friends and AnD at Tsum Cheng!

    Friday, Aug 22, 2008 12:20AM / Standard Entry / Members only

Alright. So there's a TYPHOON 3 warning now.  Not sure if it'll be upgraded to a TYPHOON 8 (which means that all schools and work places shut down). We'll see.

Did I tell you guys about the little critter friends that come out when we get these wonderful typhoon warnings???

In the photo below, they're on the LEFT. Yes, cockroaches. Apparently, they come out and go crazy around this time (when typhoons hit). Big ones. Small ones. FLYING ones. I see them mostly on the streets. Not sure why... Does anyone know why cockroaches come out during the typhoon???  Anyway, I'm glad I haven't seen any yet today!

The 2 photos (above) were taken at the little boardwalk at the Gold Coast, which I visited on the weekend. They have these booths selling all kinds of artsy stuff.

Here's the yummy BBQ goose we had.

And, this was spotted on our way to the restaurant:

I'm not referring to the Mercedes. Look at the black/ red on the concrete on the other side of the street! Tsk tsk... Graffiti. AliveNotDead is EVERYWHERE!
Who's gonna own up to this one???

  • Teen "Cervical Cancer" Vaccine Risks and Deaths- What is wrong with this picture???

    Thursday, Aug 21, 2008 11:53PM / Standard Entry / Members only

The GARDASIL vaccine is supposed to decrease the risk of cervical cancer by protecting the person  from certain strains of HPV, a sexually transmitted infection/ disease. HPV may cause cervical cancer later on in life. The entire conventional medical community has pushed this vaccine to all teenage girls, and it's basically mandatory for teenage girls to get this vaccine.

Today, I hear on the news of reports that 12+ girls have died after receiving the vaccine Thousands (yes, THOUSANDS) have reported adverse (i.e. bad) side effects after receiving the vaccine. More info here: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=68454

A Judicial Watch report said, "Even though Gardasil will not be fully tested for safety until 2009, physicians are already pushing it as a routine, harmless vaccine. Merck's aggressive advertisement campaign tells young girls that their lives could be 'one less' affected by cervical cancer and that, 'It's your turn to help guard against cervical cancer.'"

The report also estimated it will cost as much as $2 billion to buy vaccinations for the nation's poorest girls.

"This vaccine will be more expensive than all other childhood vaccines put together," concluded John Schiller, a National Cancer Institute investigator.

Does anyone else feel that something is wrong with this picture?! Hong Kong is still airing commercials promoting this vaccine. I just saw one 15 minutes ago... which reminded me of the news report this morning. I know what the pharmaceutical company is thinking:

I'm not against vaccines. I'm just against misinforming the public, especially when this misinformation is coming from doctors. People, PLEASE- Be wise consumers and wise patients. Ignorance can kill.

  • The Gold Coast and KIDS nowadays...

    Wednesday, Aug 20, 2008 11:46PM / Standard Entry / Members only

I love watching the Olympics highlights in the evening. China is doing REALLY well!

Anyone been to Tsum Cheng and the Gold Coast? My first time was this past weekend. A friend was visiting from Toronto and we ended up having the famous BBQ goose (or duck? I'm always confused) at Tsum Cheng.

We all ate outside and it was SUPER hot... This is my friend from Toronto who was on a work trip in Asia. I was sweating like a pig.

I had a few more photos to put up BUT for some reason, I can't upload them to this blog. Only the picture above showed up. How weird... I've tried four times already to upload other pics but some window keeps popping up after a few minutes saying "The document contains no data"... I wonder what's wrong...

I've been super busy with my talks this week (on Nutrition for Kids). The response from patients and the public was overwhelming. The talks were overbooked and I'll be giving another one in September... I heard that one's pretty much full as well, so I'm happy. It's great when parents are so proactive in their children's health.
I saw a kid patient today. Super smart and brilliant. Top of the class. Plays piano, soccer and whatever else every child "needs" to excel at nowadays. The only downside is he's a PERFECTIONIST. Always needs to come up on top, to be the best. At 5 years old! His mom tells me he was very upset once when he got 2nd place instead of 1st place. So upset he was crying! Plus, he's always putting pressure on himself to be the first or best at EVERYTHING. It's starting to affect his body now (stomach cramps whenever under pressure). In previous generations, IQ was everything, but now, we're starting to see that EQ (emotional quotient) is just as important, if not more... Can you believe it? Stress at 5 years old!... Cute kid, though.
Sorry I haven't had time to read all your blogs. Will try my best to catch up!!!

And COME ON- ANOTHER Typhoon 1 warning?! (There's a T1 warning at the corner of the TV screen right now)
