  • Wow, Our film (Coffin) #1 in box office!!!
     |  |  )

    Wednesday, Nov 5, 2008 11:00PM / Standard Entry

This is the film which I did with Karen Mok early this year.  It was out in thailand, Taiwan, Malyasia, and Singapore.   The film has the highest box office in many of the countries listed above.  I must say I am very happy for the turn out.   It is a great film, great director, great cast.   I just hope it will show in Hong Kong soon.

"The Coffin" nails #1 Opening on Halloween

SINGAPORE. 3 Novem.ber 2008. With Halloween in the air, moviegoers in Singapore rushed out to see the new Thai horror film 'The Coffin', making it the No. 1 film at the box office on its Opening Day last Thursday - outgrossing all other films including Saw V.

Inspired by a true controversial ritual of lying in coffins to get rid of bad luck and prolong lives, the English-language film has also broken the record for Best Opening Day for all other Thai horror films previously held by 'Shutter'. Written and directed by Thai helmer Ekachai Uekrongtham (Beautiful Boxer), the Karen Mok (Shaolin Soccer) and Ananda Everingham (Shutter) starrer has earlier topped the Box Office chart in Thailand when it opened in August.

Described by Time Out Magazine as a "scream gem" and 8 Days Magazine as "a poised spine-tingler, 'The Coffin' tells a thrilling, mysterious and moving story of an architect and a dietician who decide to go through the ritual to cheat death only to be faced with a series of strange and terrifying incidents afterwards.

Shot in Thailand on actual locations including a 100-year-old temple, real cemeteries, inside active crematorium chambers and an ancient meditation cave, this Thai-HK-Singapore co-production was first presented as a project at HAF (Hong Kong Asia Film Financing Forum) where it won the Hubert Bals Fund Award of the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Produced by Live Inc. (Thailand), NGR (Thailand), Global Entertainment Group (Hong Kong) and Scorpio East Pictures (Singapore), 'The Coffin' is distrbuted in Singapore by Scorpio East Pictures, Mediacorp Raintree Pictures and Cathay-Keris Films.

'The Coffin' makes its U.S. market debut at the American Film Market today.

  • Halloween Make-up design for Terence, and party pics
     |  |  )

    Saturday, Nov 1, 2008 11:08PM / Standard Entry

    Hello

All of us had been busy working on our first AnD halloween party for the past week.  And Specially thank to Shan Chen and our interns for the hard work beforehand.  The party was a good turn-out.

Anyway,  Terence wanted to do something that represents dead and something different from the costumes in the past.   I'd suggest him to do a zombie/vampire in period chinese costume. because I have never seen that done before anywhere.   So he went and got most of the stuff, they are not exactly what I expected. Unlike some of you said, he wasn't  try to cross-dress, he just look that way. but it did look good on him.  He got this white robe and and white wig.  Once I knew what he was wearing, I got to work right away on my photoshop.  I promised terence to do his make-up.  I want to make sure he looks good.

Here is a quick photoshop test of the make-up on a old photo of terence.

Once everything is prepared,  I'd tackle his face with some Kryolan Grease paint for theatre.
(background shelf is my collection of 12" figure I made and bought.)

another close up in process (cover him in white base as a foudation for my build up later)

    3/4 finished
(creating rotten skin and translucent appearence of veins and  vessels showing through)

If you couldn't recognize who these people are,  point your cursor at the person.
(by the way, when I'd walked in the party.  the "Raiders March" was playing)

stole this picture from 24herbs( I like this picture)

Zombie says..... I would love to drink some milk from these two on my left. hehe.....

My latest archeology find Doro-amon,  dug up in japan

Lisa is a sexy devil, like she always is .  Dan is a Dork like he always is.

Cherrie and Jordan dressed up as school boy and girl.

    stay tuned for more.

  • Adding tools to my Acting tool box
     |  |  )

    Tuesday, Oct 14, 2008 4:56AM / Standard Entry

I have been acting professionally since 1996.  I had a few acting coaches in between,  but it has been awhile since I've attend an acting or seminar.

This past two days working with Jeanne Hartman was a wonderful experience.  Thank you Jason for organizing the class.  It is always nice to add more tools to you acting tool box.  When you are an actor who has been working in the industry for awhile.  The tool box doesn't grow very fast.  But the pass two day,  I just put in a bunch of new tools in it.

When you have tools Jeanne gave us,  It will definitely makes you  more confident attacking a difficult scene or even an audition.  It was nice to work with my fellow actor friends in a class environment.  Most of my friends in the class I've work with them either in a film or TV drama.  But I have learned a lot by watching them work and explained the choices they made for that particular approach for a scene.  I know everyone who've attended must have learned a lot over the weekend.

So for those of you who are still wondering if they should sign up for the class, Go,  Don't hesitate.  And for those of you who are non-actors nor want to be an actor as a career, the class will also help you facing your fear in public speaking situation , cause you do have to speak and act in front of a group audience. That means you "Patrick".

And one last thing.  For those of you who are interested in the REEF CHECK contest,  this is the last week to sign up.  so go....

  • My first Live Art performance at RACKS Shanghai
     |  |  )

    Wednesday, Oct 1, 2008 8:24PM / Standard Entry

    Hello

First of all, I would like to thank all the friends and guests who came to the art performance in shanghai Racks.  The night was awesome!!,  two paintings has been created and many alcohol has been consumed.  For those of you who missed it.  You Missed out!!  Oh well, next time.

This is my first live performance in front of the audience, and my first time doing collaboration with another painter.  Li zan is a very good painter from chongqing,  He is an upcoming artist of the modern art world.   I love his style very much.   I was introduced to him by a mutual friend David chow from finding roots. Acutally david and li zan are creating a fashion brand together called "finding roots"  Meaning finding out true identity as a Chinese race.  I am very proud to work with them on this subject through this live performance.

In our paintings,  besides the theme of finding roots,  Alive not dead is also part of the theme we try to incorporate into our paintings.  As you can see Li zan is doing "Alive" and I am doing "not dead".  A budda and a devil was in contrast between the two realm.  The dark chi force coming out from the devil's mouth was diluted into the colorful chi coming back out again from the budda.   Which also means the circle of Life.

I really love the final result.  Two different artists. Two different style.  Two themes combined.  Two piece of nice art work.

Since this is a live performance,  we only have 50 minutes.   That is why we have the background on the canvas prepainted beforehand.

On the same night,  we also celebrated Dan's birthday too.

Two of us are going at it.

    The final Painting from me

The final painting from Li zan

Terence and david was trying to get us a little buzz in the middle of  my painting.  Hoping we  will paint something from my hallucination.

    Thanks again everyone.!!!
