2 pictures / 121 viewsDucati announces the exclusive offering of two Ducati Desmosedici GP machines at RM Auctions' highly anticipated 2012 Monaco sale at the Grimaldi Forum, 11-12 May, including a GP10 raced by Casey Stoner and GP11 raced by Valentino Rossi. Presented directly from the Ducati Corse racing department within the Ducati factory in Bologna, Italy and offered under reserve, both machines represent "motorcycle exotica" at its most desirable and a genuine chance-of-a-lifetime purchase for international collectors.
Peter Wallman, specialist at RM Auctions - Europe comments, "Ducati represents the pinnacle of two-wheeled desirability with a reputation for world-beating performance and unmistakable design. We are very excited to be working with yet another leading manufacturer and to have this exclusive opportunity to offer items that are not normally available to the public. The sale offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire very unique pieces of Ducati history, not to be missed."
Built in the Ducati factory in Borgo Panigale, Bologna 7-11 December 2009, Casey Stoner's Ducati Desmosedici GP10 "CS1" was first started for bench testing on 14 December 2009 before being track tested by the Australian rider in Sepang, Malaysia in February 2010. Stoner first competed with CS1 in Qatar in April 2010 and raced it to victory in the Australian GP at Phillip Island in October 2010. The machine took pole positions in Qatar, Phillip Island and Valencia and powered the Australian to podium positions in Valencia, Assen and Catalunya. Its final Grand Prix was in Valencia, November 2010 having logged a total of 4,232km.
Valentino Rossi's Ducati Desmosedici GP11 "VR2" was built at the Ducati factory 6-10 December 2010 and was first started for bench testing two days later. VR2's first track test for Rossi was carried out in the February 2011 Sepang tests and first competed in the Qatar Grand Prix the following month. It recorded a podium position at Le Mans, France in May 2011 and competed in its last race at the Dutch TT in Assen, having logged a total of 2,342km.
"The release of two very special machines like these is an extremely rare occasion for us, so the lucky buyer must not only enter into a confidentiality agreement, but also become a close member of the ‘Ducati family'!" said Ducati Corse General and Technical Director, Filippo Preziosi. "The Desmosedici GP10 and GP11 were two very interesting bikes in our GP project history and therefore will represent exciting opportunities for serious collectors."
RM's highly-anticipated Monaco auction will also offer the private Saltarelli Collection of historic Ducati motorcycles at the same event, providing a wonderful celebration of Ducatis history. In addition to the motorcycles, the two-day sale will also feature a magnificent roster of blue-chip automobiles.

Residual impact force transmitted to the head, 31% below the limit set by the standard. The result is achieved thanks to the numerous FEM simulations and in-house tests carried out.
HIC index 48% below the limit set by the standard. The HIC (Head Injury Criterion) index measures the level of brain trauma risk due to the accelerations of impact. In this case too, the result is achieved thanks to the numerous FEM simulations and in-house tests carried out.
71% more compact visor movement. This allows use of the space saved to increase the thickness of the absorption material, benefitting safety.
9% bigger visor window 9%. This gives the rider better visibility of the track in front and laterally when bent over the bike riding straight ahead, benefitting active safety.
3% smaller frontal section and 6% small lateral section: the helmet is more compact and lighter, without reducing passive safety and comfort.
Aerodynamic resistance (Cd) reduced by 17%. The lower the Cd value, the lower the amount of stress transmitted to the rider’s neck, with an increase in comfort and reduction of fatigue. Attentive design, computational fluid dynamic tests and wind tunnel testing have obtained an average 17% reduction of the Cd while racing.
193% increase in vent surface. The position and size of the vents and computational fluid dynamic wind tunnel testing have generated a ventilation system capable of effectively removing heat and humidity.

Having just had his steel plate removed from his near fatal accident last year, Vale will get back on track.!
Valentino Rossi (Ducati Team) 8th, 2’03.245 (39 laps):
"Paradoxically, we actually started too early this morning! It would’ve been better to start at 11 like the others, because before that the asphalt was quite dirty, and by the time the conditions started to improve, the tyre already had about fifteen laps on it. We decided to save the second tyre for the afternoon, but it started raining after lunch. As a result, we didn’t get much done today. We didn’t even start working with the new software that we have available for this test. On the plus side, we were able to confirm that the feeling in the wet is still pretty good with the GP12. Weather permitting, and with a couple more tyres at our disposal, I think that tomorrow we’ll be able to work a little more comprehensively and understand things a bit more."

Okay So I've Tapped this before, but not in so much detail; here're the spec's!, something to think very, very seriously about before the Bonomi Family sell out at EURO1Bil!, who know's where they'll be built thereafter!, (probably Germany..hint!) I'll keep you posted, but for now not much is being said. onto the 1199S at 195Bhp!
- Stressed-element engine
Stressed-element engineThe Superquadro engine is a fully stressed member of the vehicle chassis. The stressed-element engine and monocoque frame integrate to form a compact, lightweight structure. In this configuration, the swingarm, rear suspension and rear sub-frame attach directly to the engine.
- Monocoque technology
Monocoque technologyThe monocoque structure, made in cast aluminium, incorporates the steering head and airbox and attaches directly to both Superquadro cylinder heads.
SuperquadroThe innovative Superquadro engine is so called because of its massively over-square bore and stroke ratio of 112mm x 60.8mm and is designed as a fully stressed member of the chassis. Its power reaches an absolute production twin-cylinder milestone of 195hp at 10,750 rpm and torque to 98.1 lb-ft (13.5kgm) at 9,000 rpm.
- Riding Mode
Riding ModeThe 1199 Panigale Riding Modes effectively offer the perfect set-up to suit rider and environment. Titled Race, Sport and Wet the modes are pre-programmed to instantly change power delivery (Power Mode), ABS system intervention (if equipped), DTC, DQS and EBC levels, instrumentation layout and in the "S" version the suspension set-up (DES). Each Riding Mode can be modified and saved.
- Power Mode
Power ModeThe Power Modes are the different engine mappings which can be selected to change power delivery according to rider style and environmental requirements. For the 1199 Panigale, there are three levels, each one corresponding to a Riding Mode
120hp with smooth throttle response
195hp with smooth throttle response
195hp with direct throttle response
- Ride by Wire (RbW)
Ride by Wire (RbW)The Ride-by-Wire (RbW) system is an electronic control device for throttle opening and closing. With no mechanical connection between the twistgrip and the throttle bodies, the engine ECU adjusts power delivery according to the amount of throttle opening. The Ride-by-Wire system enables modified power delivery according to the selected Riding Mode in addition to enabling control for EBC and DTC.
- Ducati Electronic Suspension (DES)
Ducati Electronic Suspension (DES)The Ducati Electronic Suspension (DES) system by Öhlins enables automatic compression and rebound damping adjustment, ensuring an optimum suspension set-up for each Riding Mode or to suit personal requirements according to riding style.
- Ducati Traction Control (DTC)
Ducati Traction Control (DTC)The Ducati Traction Control (DTC) offers a choice of eight profiles, each one pre-programmed with a wheel-spin tolerance graded from one to eight. Each Riding Mode corresponds to a different, pre-set level of intervention by the system.
While level eight administers a confidence-building, high level of interaction from the system by activating upon the slightest detection of wheel-spin, level one offers a much higher tolerance and so reduced intervention for highly competent riders.
- Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) 9ME
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) 9METhe 1199 Panigale introduces the very latest in sport-oriented ABS technology. The three-level ABS 9ME system is fully integrated with the three Riding Modes. When in RACE mode the system enables full ABS on the front only for enhanced track performance.
- Engine Brake Control (EBC)
Engine Brake Control (EBC)The Engine Brake Control (EBC) system optimises vehicle stability under extreme corner entry conditions by balancing the positive and negative forces of torque subjected to the rear tyre during severe engine-braking. EBC monitors throttle position, gear selected and crankshaft de-acceleration rate and administers precise RbW throttle openings to balance the torque forces acting on the tyre. EBC has a three level operating system and is integrated into the three Riding Modes.
- Ducati Quick Shift (DQS)
Ducati Quick Shift (DQS)The Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) system is a race-derived electronic component which allows the rider to keep the throttle open when changing-up through the gearbox, helping to save vital fractions of a second in the pursuit of faster lap-times.
