Meet up in Hongkong?

Dear friends of Alivenotdead, I'll be in HK from 16-19 March for Hongkong film mart this year.Would any of the A&D artists be keen to meet up to explore possibilites in collaboration?Currently within the last 1.5 year since the inception of my company Supernova Media, we have produced 2 commercial movies to be launched this year, and have produced several broadcast coproduction with overseas co-producing partners, like Modern Times Group (Europe), SVT-1 (Sweden), Silver Media Group (SG/Cambodia), etc.

Our company is the first in Singapore to produce a Singapore-Sweden coproduction 'Kjell's Asian Adventure' featuring famous scandinavian star Kjell Bergqvist, and also the first in Singapore to produce a Singapore-Cambodia movie coproduction '3.50'.

As a entrepreneur, i was the youngest recipient in Singapore for the Shell LiveWIRE Awards, an international award organized by Shell (The petrol company). My company has recently been awarded the Asia Pacific Brands Award for it's outstanding achievements this year.

As i'll be in HK, i would hope to meet up with fellow A&D artists, experienced directors and producers, like yourself, to explore co-production opportunities with HK.

Cherish the Present

It has been a long while since I last attended to this blog.

It is a love-hate relationship with myself.

I prefer moving forward instead of looking backward to reminisce the past. I am not someone that enjoys reminiscing the past. It may be good because it has given me strong motivation power to move forward to achieve my goals. But after a conversation with ‘someone’, I came to a realization that my life seems to lack the Present Moment? Where is it? Can’t find it in my brain.

One night, I was having supper with a successful businessman, someone who has been there and done that in life.

It all came from this conversation on the topic ‘life’.

Alvin:“I felt as if I have just graduated from secondary school yesterday, and now I’m working and running a small business.”

Wise Man:“Yesterday I was just your age. But now I am already so old.”

Alvin:“Wow! Guess you are always looking forward in life!”

Wise Man:“Yes, we work hard to chase after the future, but we tend to neglect the present. Here’s something for you. Cherish the present. Trust me. Don’t start regretting when you are old.”

I didn’t know what to say.

I am able to relate to his statement because I really felt as if secondary school was just yesterday. Saying so, it means when I’m his age; I’ll probably be able to feel what he is feeling now. I graduated from secondary school in 2006, which is merely 6 years from now? For him, he is probably my age around 35-40 years ago? That is a big difference.

True indeed, he was once a young lad like myself. At our age, the world is our oyster; the stage is meant for us to shine with glory. But at his age, someone who has been there and done that, if such statement comes from him, it is definitely true. Maybe he has neglected his ‘present moment’ for numerous times and it may have caused him some regrets in life? I have chose to listen (Sometimes I can be quite stubborn)

Cherish the Present.

11 more months to go

It’s been a while since I last blogged.

Which means, I was really busy the past weeks.

But it is good.

Something worth to mention; It’s 11 more months to go, and I’ll be set free!

Looking back, barely a year ago, I was still brainstorming on how to make the “Best” out of “It”, and thankfully, I succeeded.

Work is fruitful, it’s happening. Our JVs are heading on the right track, but not all are good, we have 1 potential JV that ceased, not because of sour situation, but rather our potential partner’s company was acquired, and it is a multi-million dollars deal (Which is good for him, he will be cash rich). So we are currently exploring on other JV possibilities, and we’ll work on it soon.

Oh yes, I found a new hideout at MyVillage, it’s a perfect environment to grab some nice food and drinks, trust me, and they do have a huge variety of wines to tame your choosy taste bud. And I am so in love with red wine that I visited it twice in a week. I’ll foresee myself patronizing more often. But for this coming week, I’ll be quite ti ed down with work, both official and non-official work.

Recently, I went to Phonm Penh, Cambodia. It was an awesome trip, meeting lots of philanthropic people. It is heartwarming, especially knowing that there are many kind souls out there willing to help and make a difference. Apart from the good work, there is business too. We are in the midst of structuring a coproduction deal with our Cambodia partner. The discussion was great, our goals are in align, and let’s hope the deal will take place real soon.

A Night of Reflection

The clock seems to be ticking very slowly in this peaceful night, and soon in less than 3 hours time, I’ll have to drag myself out of bed for a long day of work.

Unfortunately, this is the kind of gruesome lifestyle that I am trying to cope for the past 11 months. Very often, sleeping and resting time were never sufficient, climbing out of bed is extremely torturous, and that excludes the long 45 minutes drive with traffic jams from Pasir Ris to Choa Chu Kang. After totaling all factors, the experience is just horrendous. But thankfully, I met great and awesome people at work, and it’s actually a good place to be (Not as bad as I thought).

Back in 2010-2011, those were the good old days when I can happily wake up at 12pm, and take my own sweet time to prepare, before starting the packed day with works, meetings, appointments, events, etc. Honestly, it is tiring and taxing both physically and mentally, but it’s definitely fulfilling. I am looking forward to that lifestyle, and hopefully it will come in 13 months time! Those good old days were times when I can easily travel overseas as when I like! I still remember this spontaneous business trip to India at a short notice; I guess I can’t do it now.

Never mind, it’s okay; I shall stay positive and get over the remaining 13 months!

Back to work. Supernova Media is progressing well, and I am spearheading a couple of new ventures under the wings of the company, as subsidiaries. And 2 of the new ventures are now in the Agreement stage, and we’ll be signing it real soon. And what really excites me is, we are entering JV with multi-million dollar companies, and although we may be small as compared to them, but we are able to value-add in a big way.

Honestly, I was very tempted to shift a new office, into one with bigger space for expansion. But after much thought, and realization of the amount of time that is required for shifting of office… I came to enlightenment, that the time should be utilize on developing and pushing of new ventures, and not wasting resources on shifting office when we should be re-investing monies on new ventures!

I am really excited about the new ventures!

A year older, a year wiser

Age has caught up, and I’m a year older.

Thinking positively, I’m now a year wiser, which is good ;)

The start of 2012 wasn’t smooth for me. I had 2 car accidents in 2 weeks, and the second was a serial car accident. Again, thinking positively, I’m glad to be 1 good piece. You know, when there’s up, there’s down, so now I’m down, it’s time to go up!

I’ll stay cool ;)

New Year Resolution

Time flies really fast this year!

And pretty soon it’s time to put a full stop to mark the end of 2011.

Considering myself being trapped “somewhere”, I would say this year is fairly fruitful, with a few notable milestones achieved! Maybe I’m just deeply loved by the “higher beings”.

Looking back since day 1 of 2011, my look-like boring life simply revolves around work, work and more work.  But trust me, the look-like boring life is actually quite adventurous and it was a year of acquisition. Acquisition of knowledge, skills and network! And I believe there’s more to come in 2012, I’m really looking forward to it!

Frankly, and knowing myself, I got a tendency to place work as top priority ahead of most things, and unfortunately, some friends were neglected because of it.  Sometimes I feel a bit bad, so if you happen to receive my call out of the blue, don’t worry, I’m not in MLM business, I don’t have any products to market, it’s just a courteous call to catch up ;)

For 2011:

Milestones achieved:

[if !supportLists]1.     [endif]Venturing Overseas

[if !supportLists]-       [endif]A co-production with Sweden, and more to come in 2012.

[if !supportLists]2.     [endif]Produced my 1 st Mandarin Feature Film, Red Numbers

[if !supportLists]-       [endif]Now it’s preparing for its release in 2012.

[if !supportLists]3.     [endif]Entrepreneurship

[if !supportLists]-       [endif]Won the Shell LiveWIRE Merit Award.

Resolution for 2012:

[if !supportLists]1.     [endif]A Healthy Lifestyle (Brought over from 2011)

[if !supportLists]-       [endif]Lack of regular exercise and unhealthy eating habits have killed my fitness! Missed those days when I could easily get Gold for IPPT.

[if !supportLists]2.     [endif]Blood Donation (Brought over from 2011)

[if !supportLists]-       [endif]Wanted to donate blood, but I’m a bit afraid of the needle.

[if !supportLists]3.     [endif]Direct my 1 st Feature Film (Brought over from 2011)

[if !supportLists]-       [endif]As much as I would want to, but this year and next year won’t be possible. Mainly because I’m trapped in “somewhere”, and I would need to spend more time on business development rather than productions.

[if !supportLists]4.     [endif]Venturing Overseas

[if !supportLists]-       [endif]Bigger and more profiting ventures!

[if !supportLists]5.     [endif]Expansion Plan

[if !supportLists]-       [endif]Expand the business!

[if !supportLists]6.     [endif]Entrepreneurship

[if !supportLists]-       [endif]Participate and win more entrepreneurship awards!

Wishes for 2012:

[if !supportLists]1.     [endif]Good health for family and friends.

[if !supportLists]2.     [endif]Good health for myself.

[if !supportLists]3.     [endif]A fatter pocket;)

Alright, that’s all for 2012!

I really yearn for a fruitful year ahead! (Which I foresee it to be!)

So I’ll gain more experiences which knowledge can’t give, and eventually have a fatter pocket by the end of 2012!

Best Regards

Alvin!

Mission Impossible

How awesome would it be if we can gorge on all delicacies available on earth, eat as much as we want, but without expanding horizontally? Sounds like mission impossible, but indeed… it’s impossible.

Recently, I’m facing huge temptations everywhere! I am having constant craving all the time, especially in the middle of the night, and all sorts of scrumptious delicacies start surfacing. Right now I’m thinking of Vietnamese cold noodles and drip-coffee from Vietlang at Art House! Owning a restaurant is really the best deal for me, I guess, haha! And maybe I should also find a wife that we both enjoy eating as much as we love each other, so one day we shall tour the world together to satisfy our taste buds!

Awarded the Shell LiveWIRE Entrepreneur Merit Award 2011

Life has been awesome for me.

Ever since I started my company, nothing beats being your own boss. I can go up, down, left and right as when I want, I don’t have to be accountable to anyone (of course I’m responsible to my clients and investors), it’s just one word – AWESOME!

Yesterday, it was the Shell LiveWIRE Awards Presentation 2011, and it was an honor to be presented with the Merit Award from Mr Teo Ser Luck, Minister of State for Trade and Industry. Minister Teo is extremely friendly, and it was great talking to him! Here are a few preview pictures! I will post more pictures once I receive more pictures from the organisers!

Minister Teo giving a speech at the award:

Back in the office with the award:

Most importantly, I got to thank my business mentor, a successful businessman Mr Chan Gin Kai for imparting me his business knowledge which took him decades to accumulate. He's the man directly beside me:          Lastly, thanks to those who trusted and believed in me despite my young age!Stay tune for more pictures, real soon!

Cheers
