Your Own Professional Pictures
Sunday, Aug 9, 2009 10:30AM / Standard Entry

There used to be a time when if you wanted to have some professional-looking pictures done, you'd absolutely have to get a professional photographer. But with the technological advances in digital cameras, the bridge is definitely narrowing. In fact, I think you can pretty much get away with taking your own pictures for professional use. All you need to do is invest in a decent digital camera coupled with some warm, natural light, and you're ready to fire away!
Personally, I have never been a big fan of all the digital touch-ups everyone uses with Adobe Photoshop or whatever other post application so I've been using this amazing Samsung WB500 camera which essentially "cleans up" your face for you in Portrait Mode...without needing to do anything in "post" (or after you've taken the shot).
All of these shots were taken with simply the Samsung WB500 and natural sunlight.
Of course, if you're a little more "conservative" and prefer to put your mug in the hands of a professional, then there's nothing wrong with that too! In fact, I am going to have my photographer friend David Tan come over in a few minutes to take some pictures of Li Lin and me (cuz I don't think having "little people" handling the shutter is too "professional!")

From San Diego to San Francisco
Monday, Jul 13, 2009 12:12PM / Standard Entry
As always, it's been busy being back in Los Angeles, especially when I'm trying to catch up with friends and meeting people from the industry. Of course, I still made sure I had time to make sure the Li'l Man could push his own little shopping cart with a funky new do at the supermarket...
BTW...that white box in his cart is a case of Samuel Adams Boston Lager
Once I got over the jet lag, it was time to start exploring this state of California once again so we cruised on down to Carlsbad to visit Legoland for the first time, which is great for little kids and big kids like me. In fact, they even have these miniature lego cities such as this one of San Francisco...
Looks pretty real, huh??
Little did I know that I'd be actually up in the Bay Area a few days later...
It's been over five or six years since I last made it up to NorCal and even longer since I crossed the Bay Bridge so this trip was truly special. After meeting up with my old modeling agency from twelve years ago, I just wanted to enjoy the sights and sounds of the city. I think I totally forgot what a beautiful place this is to live, and here's something I saw that was kinda special...and kinda trippy.
As I was walking along the waterfront to the Ferry Terminal with a friend, we came across this amorous blind and physically-handicapped couple...
It was really cool how they got on with their public displays of affection right in the mix of the crowd without a care in the world. Sometimes just going with your gut and doing what you wanna do without anyone caring is the best way to go. My friend and I were wondering whether they would have been so "adventurous" if they could actually see? Regardless, more power to them!
And now on to the "meat" of this blog, where I was able to catch up with many old college friends from Berkeley...
From Left to Right...Derek Hawkins, Myron Scott, Steve Chen, me, Steve Hsieh and Greg Ko. I haven't seen some of these guys since CAL for almost a decade and a half so I had a great time catching up with them.
We all went to the best new premium steakhouse in San Francisco called 5A5 on 244 Jackson near Battery, which is actually owned by Steve Chen, Albert Chen, John Chu, and a few others.
If you happen to be in the Bay Area and you wanna try the highest grade (known as A5) premium wagyu beef in the entire world, then you gotta come down to 5A5. I tried some of it, and it's amazing how the meat just literally melts in your mouth. Absolutely divine...and decadent!
And now, it's time to get ready for some more meetings back in SoCal. Hopefully, things will start moving along here so I can spend more time back in the States to catch up with more "old" friends.

JET-ting Back to Cali
Thursday, Jul 2, 2009 12:04PM / Standard Entry

Since the worldwide launch of the new Samsung Jet mobile phone, I've made my way back to California once again. If you'd like to see more about this amazing launch with 3D holographic technology, then surf on over to:

Usually, I return back to SoCal to spend time with family and friends. This time, however, I intend to get a better idea of what Hollywood is all about. I know it won't be easy, but I've always wanted to better understand the center of the entertainment industry here so there's no better time than now.
So...it's time to set up some meetings and see what I can learn before I have to work in Asia again or race around the world!
On another note, here's a great article I read about cancer and how to keep cancer on the sidelines and off the pitch...or YOUR playing field.
Tell me if you think this is valid or not!
AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY AND ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHNS HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY .
Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins :
1. Every person has cancer cells in the body.. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.
2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.
3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.
4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.
5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.
6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.
7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.
8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.
9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.
10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.
11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.
WHAT CANCER CELLS FEED ON:
a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in color. Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt.
b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk, cancer cells are being starved.
c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.
d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).
e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.
12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become purified and leads to more toxic buildup.
13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.
14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Florssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells.. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.
15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life..
16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

Samsung Unpacks in Singapore, London, and Dubai
Tuesday, Jun 16, 2009 4:23PM / Standard Entry

Last night in Singapore, I helped "unpack" the newest addition to the Samsung Mobile range with the Jet. The entire event was one amazing affair, and of all the product launches I have ever attended, this one is definitely one of the biggest and most memorable. In fact, the similar event also took place in London and Dubai on the same day with even more countries to follow for introducing the Samsung Jet.
I am sure you are wondering why Samsung would invest so much money to promote this phone, but once you start reading the specs and understanding what it can do, I think you'll realize that Samsung is really excited about this bad boy.
In fact, I even flew to London last week to learn some 3D holographic technology for the presentation I did last night at the launch. Actually, it was my first time to London so I was hoping to stay longer. Unfortunately, it was only a one day affair, but I did manage to order up some carnitas burriotos at Benito's Hat, which wasn't too bad. I didn't have high expectations for Mexican food in the UK so it was a pleasant surprise...and it's still miles (or should I say kilometers) better than Singapore!
I'm trying to get my hands on some of the video from the presentation I did last night so you can see how amazing the presentation was utilizing the 3D holographic technology. Basically, I'm waving my hands around (like Tom Cruise did in "Minority Report") where holographic images hover and fly around in the air before the audience. Pretty cool stuff.
I won't get into the specifics of the new Samsung Jet, but here's a press release which highlights some of the crazy cool features such as the 800 Megahertz application processor and AMOLED display if you wanna check it out:

I think to most of us, a phone is just a phone. But the people at Samsung have really stepped it up a couple of notches in really showing me what you can really do with the most advanced technlogy for a mobile phones. Looks like the time is ripe for that fruit phone to quickly harvest and whip out its newest version fast!!

Little did he know that his career in entertainment would propel him all the way to Asia even after modeling for the prestigious Ford Model Agency in Los Angeles, California.
Once Allan decided to "set up shop" in Asia, he was immediately invited to become an MTV (Music Television) VJ in Taiwan with stints on MTV Taiwan’s Party Zone, International Top 20 and Most Wanted. Not to rest on his laurels, Allan later moved to Hong Kong to focus more on his acting and was featured in numerous television commercials regionally along the way.
In line with Allan's desire to experience more of Asia both from a personal and professional perspective, he took Singapore by storm when he first dropped in over seven years ago. In addition to hosting and presenting, Allan is also one of the most sought after actors on screen and has starred in an extensive list of productions both in English and Mandarin. Never one to back down from a dare, Allan even found himself consuming maggots, worms, stinky beetles, and rotten fish eyes on NBC's Fear Factor in the United States.
Establishing himself as Singapore’s one and only hunkalicious action hero, Allan landed the highly coveted spot as the Host of AXN’s The Amazing Race Asia several years ago. With Season Four of The Amazing Race Asia ready to take flight once again, there's no telling how far Allan will soar--only the sky's the limit. - Occupation: Actor , TV/Radio Host
