  • Glossy Box by The Manrepeller

    Monday, Feb 18, 2013 11:00PM / Standard Entry

Inside this month's Glossy Box: 1. Tiny .03fl oz Narcisco Rodriguez for her; 2. Full size Liquid Sand OPI polish in Can't Let Go: 3. Tiny .17fl oz Fresh Umbrian Clay Mattifying Serum; 4. Travel size 1.7fl oz Sebastian Potion 9 styling treatment; 5. Full size Tarte Glamazon lipstick in Fierce; 6. Sample Le Mètier de Beautè Replenishing Daily Solution; 7. Mini Estèe Lauder Sumptuos Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara.

After a super busy work day, I came home to a wonderful surprise:

Leandra Medine AKA The Manrepeller put together a winter survival kit in collaboration with my friends at Glossy Box. I really love the star tissue paper

I love beauty box subscrīption services! It's like getting a present in the mail every, single, time!

Glossy Box did a special "winter survival kit" collaboration with The Manrepeller for January. I'd like to take a moment here to point out how particularly interesting the choice in partnership is, since Leandra is well-known as a fashion blogger, but not so much for her beauty prowess. However, I do have to give Leandra and Glossy Box some props since I am thoroughly enjoying the result.

Underneath a cute little message card from MR and layer of festive, star sprinkled tissue I found a great assortment of products.

The first thing that caught my attention after ripping the MR sticker off and tossing the little ribbon to Bijoux, was the Tarte Glamazon lipstick in Fierce. I am a firm believer in red lipstick as a go to for any season. Also, as a makeup artist, there is never enough red lipstick to fill your kit.

The Opi Liquid Sand in Can't Let Go was a close second. I am more of a pinkie nudie kinda girl, but purple is my favorite color. I'm planning to break it out on a day when I am feeling adventurous.

Even though I am not 100% sure how the Fresh Umbrian Clay serum fits into a winter routine, I was excited to see it. I've been eyeing all of the Umbrian Clay items at Fresh for quite some time now. And, I've heard amazing things about the Sebastian Potion 9. I've always been more of a color cosmetic and skincare junkie and slow to try new hair products, so this gives me no excuse to give it a test whirl.

Bijoux approved. She enjoyed the January Glossy Box as much as I did.

  • Look good to feel good: Lolë

    Wednesday, Feb 6, 2013 6:15AM / Standard Entry

My favorites from Lolë: 1. Nautical bikini, 2. Ikat Kimono swim cover/blouse, 3. French terry draw-string tank dress

My friend Steve, who is roughly 5yrs my senior, told me once that I should really commit myself to hitting my 30's running. You see, he had five years of wisdom on me and could probably give a decent testimonial about the truth in that statement.

Well, I'm not going to make big announcements about when exactly he told me this or how old I am now, but it's advice I think about more than once a year and especially around New Year's Eve, if only because my Birthday actually hits around that time as well.

Rather than making a resolution to utilize my gym membership a little more every year, a resolution that never seems to stick-- I've dedicated myself to walking as much as I can and eating mindfully.

When Lolë, a fantastic active wear company based in Canada, invited a handful of people to indulge in a little winter pick-me-up spray tan, and a chat with Willow Jaroush of C&J Nutrition, I was all over it.  Clothes= Good. Food= Good. (BTW... I passed on the spray tan.)

Some snack suggestions from C&J Nutrition at Lolë preview.

Here are a few delicious and healthy snack recipes courtesy of C&J Nutrition via Lolë:

Banana Smoosh: Slice a banana and press into chia seeds. The chia seeds add a pleasing crunch and supply Omega-3 fatty acids which are great for your skin.

Lentil Tomato Quinoa Salad: Toss 1/4 cup of quinoa with 1/4 cup of lentils a handful of halved grape tomatoes, a dash of olive oil and a dash of balsamic vinegar. The locopene rich tomatoes are full of anti-oxidants, and the protein the quinoa and lentils will keep you feeling satiated and help reign in your appetite.

  • Twelve Days of Christmas gift-away: Day 12 & Obsessive Compulsive Lip Tars

    Sunday, Dec 23, 2012 6:01PM / Standard Entry

Not even all of the Lip Tars I have in my makeup kit.
“The first step is accepting you have a problem,” says David, the creator of OCC.
Well clearly I’ve got a little bit of a problem.
Ever since I discovered OCC Lip Tars from my BFF Konnie, who is a far better product analyst than I am, I have been obsessed.
First of all, they are infused with peppermint oil. I love minty things. I have minty shower gel, minty lotions, minty shampoo...
    And second, it delivers.
    1.     The colors are true. You get the color you see in the tube, which, for a makeup artist, is invaluable.
    2.     They can be mixed together to create an infinite number of colors. (But I still want every, single, one.)
    3.     It’s not icky. It goes on like a gloss, but then it dries down to this beautiful satiny finish.
    4.     You get great value, to cover an entire lip, you only need a tiny drop. And by tiny, I mean a pin drop, not a tear drop, or a gum drop.
You don't have to be a makeup artist to appreciate lip products that do what they say they are going to do.
Not a good picture of me, but Issa looks nice. This is a behind the scenes photo for a shoot I did using Lip Tar.
Plus, with the addition of the Metallurgy capsule, there’s a new finish to choose from! (Oh my.)
Benefit from my obsession: I’ve selected 5 of my favorite OCC Lip Tars to give away, courtesy of my friends at Obsessive Compulsive.
Win Us! Pretty Boy, Yaoi, Super NSFW, Hush and Memento.
    Please enter the rafflecopter below.
Read more about OCC Lip Tars on the Examiner, and see how you can get the Ombre lip look I did on Issa on We Wear Things.
