Buddy was born and raised in Collingswood, New Jersey. He was a Latch-Key Kid during the birth of cable TV. This led to endless hours in front of the television, watching movies and drawing. He gravitated toward strange cult and horror films. As a skateboarder in the late 80’s and early 90’s, he was exposed to Punk, Indie, and Heavy Metal music. In 1997, after the birth of his son, Buddy decided to teach himself to paint. In 1999, he traveled around the world on an aircraft carrier and painted every day....

Hype and glamour and also what people say. Put a "Banksy" quote on the promo material, even though his quote was NOT a recommendation, and all of a sudden it's an event. The hype was manufactured and unrelated to the work. It's crazy.

I don't claim any understanding of art. I shouldn't be proud of my ignorance but I'll reluctantly claim it. I know what I like and you could tell me it's an "XYZ painting" and if I don't like it you could hold a gun to my head....

Investing in art seems to be what a lot of that show was about. And being hip, connected.

There's just basically something fraudulent about the whole scene. It must be hard for you to deal with the bullshit at the same time you're doing what you love.

By the way, Thierry might be a pain in the arse but you gotta give him credit for his entrepreneurial spirit. What a great con!

Hey Adapta Galler crew, or one of you, did you know that if you hit "reply" on someone's guestbook entry that you are then transported to the poster's guestbook where you can respond directly. I just came here to make a comment and I noticed your kind reply last month.

Just thought I'd mention to one of you with whom I had the conversation back a few months back, I think, about the documentary/movie Exit Through the Gift Shop and I wanted to mention that I finally got to see it.

I just wondered what it said to you guys. I am not schizo when it comes to street art, some I love, some I despise. So I'm definitely not coming from the same place as you.

But I also irrationally hate two other performers - Steven Segal and Madonna. Don't ask. But I just loved that Madonna used a Mr. Brainwash piece for her cover art.

The part about what is art and how fraudulent the art market is would make an interesting blog.

A 21st Century Contemporary Art Gallery in Hong Kong....

In the 21st century, a new genre of art has developed and its rapid growth has been unprecedented. The way people view contemporary art nowadays has created a new and formidable player in the Art market and even national museums have had to sit up and pay attention to this burdgeoning phenomenon. The line between fine-art and street-art/graffiti is now blurred, with its acceptance and recognition by the art establishment also bringing with it criticism and dismissal.
Adapta is a satellite gallery that attempts to bridge the gap between the understanding of the European and Asian art markets, creating a dialogue which, until now, has been relatively unobserved. We believe that the talent-pool that “Urban Art” offers is extraordinary and hand-picking each artist specifically for each show will demonstrate, educate and provide a wealth of inspiration for the youth of today.
Our first project will be held in November 2008, in Hong Kong. We have curated an exhibition of 5 UK-based artists, including Cyclops, D*Face, David Bray, Word To Mother and Vesna Parchet. Although the variety of work can be considered eclectic, it is precisely this reason why we chose them in the first place. From the famous street-artist D*Face’s two-dimensional graphic art to the rich textures of Vesna Parchet’s styled character-based paintings, a plethora of mediums, emotions and messages are employed for the viewer to digest.
With two shows planned per year, Adapta will continue to be a cross-cultural pioneer and strive to bring the most sought-after and progressive artists to Hong Kong’s doorstep.
