  • Full Contact Training at Ng Family Martial Arts

    Saturday, Dec 27, 2008 6:51PM / Members only

Here is my most recent training video that my boy Phil put together for me. We've incorporated Choy Lay Fut into our San Shou Full Contact Training and here are some examples of how we have applied its practices into our fighting. Hope you enjoy. Thanks

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Uos7SLd_ZI

Here is the next clip that we decided to capture on video for all to see. I thnk you will agree with all of us at the Ng Family School that this is pure brilliance and quite possibly the greatest form ever. Bobby told me he learned this form on a trip to Reseda California from a 28 year old posing as a 17 year old point contact champion.

  • New Years day...0 degrees...no problem

    Sunday, Jan 13, 2008 8:34AM / Members only

For those who don't live or have never been to Chicago in the dead of winter I'll tell you it sucks like you wouldn't believe. It is friggin cold as all hell especially with the wind chill. Nonetheless we had a demo to do on New Years Day and of course I woke up on New Years Eve sick as a dog, but don't worry I didn't let that stop me from going out to and getting belligerent drunk at a bar to ring in the new year. Needless to say I was reduced to being a cameraman for our event and most of our performance with Lion Dancing as well as Martial arts was performed by Chris usually know by Kuen or Fist or Fist neck as pictured below.

The day was pretty eventful we had multiple demonstrations of Choy Lay Fut with Instructors Kelly, Francis and Joe performing our Lohan Fist form. Note how damn cold it was that everyone was still wearing their coats, hats, gloves and etc.

Instructor Chris performing a form that I don't recall due to my intense hangover combined with my sickness and the 5hrs of sleep I got the night before because of my alcoholic binge.

We continued the demo with our Ving Tsun Instructors Bob and Kingston doing a little Chi Sao or sticky hands sparring in front of the Emperor Wok.

The Martial Arts demonstrations were followed up by some Lion Dancing where they were led by Sifu Sam Ng making sure they knew where to go and what they had to do.

Sifu Ng leading the Lion's inside the restaurant.

Lastly we finished up and watched some crazy monk's break long weak doll rods on one of there students...not illustrated, because not only did I not do anything but take pictures...I also managed to forget to charge my camera, so it died on me as the Lion Dancing was finishing up.

  • Wednesday training session

    Thursday, Dec 13, 2007 2:00PM / Members only

Its been a good while since I've posted a blog...pretty much means I have nothing to talk about...god life after college becomes too much of an Fing routine. Good thing I have a nice change of pace in training at our fine facility in Chinatown. I figured I would share with you guys what transpires in a training session during our weeknight work out. We usually arrive roughly around 5:45 after work and bitch about how much work sucks...bitching usually led by me of course as we warm up and and stretch.

We start with bare knuckle focus mitts usually 3 rounds of three minutes just like how the picture shows with King throwing a lead hook.

From there we like got get a little sparring in.

Left cross coming in followed by a pow or uppercut.

Below David strikes a left cross and eats a good right cross from King.

Sneaking in a little Sau Choy.

Laying in a Chop on King.

These are some pictures we were able to get with my shitty camera that had like a 3 second delay, but those pictures pretty much sum up our night. We do incorporate ground fighting into our training as well with some wrestling and jujitsu, but that is for another time so then I'll have something else to blog about....hope you guys enjoy...Phil sorry it took so long to post bro.
  • Good Times on Wedding Day

    Tuesday, Oct 30, 2007 6:35AM / Members only

This past Saturday one of my boys Dan got married to his girl Jessica...it was a bittersweet day. Why you ask? Well I'm happy for my boy of course, but we all know as well as you do that after your married its GAME OVER....just look at Dan in the pic below he knows it too.

Actually it was an awesome wedding one of the best I've been to...and really thats just Dan recovering from the reception and yes that is a garbage bag he is using for a bib.

Anyways I know your all waiting to see the wedding photos especially Phil, since you couldn't be back for the wedding so here you go.

Let me tell you from first hand the wedding was nice, but the reception now that was good times had by all. For those of you that were there got to see me in rare form. our table was fitted with 2 bottles of Patron, 2 bottles of Grey Goose and a handle of Captain Morgan. Well we happened to finish a bottle of Patron before the reception even started at 6pm. The rest of the night seemed to be a bit of a blur, which means I'm sure I made a complete ass out of myself in front of the groom and bride's parents. And wouldn't you know it my bridesmaid counterpart happened to catch the bouquet and somehow I ended up with the garter.

Everyone thought it would be a good time to blind fold the drunk guy and make him put the garter on her leg...yeah good times if your not stumbling drunk and starting to get the spins...thanks guys I'm sure that video will surface somewhere. Any who I muster up enough focus to put the garter on her leg for it only to be Dan's semi-hairy Asian leg...damn fooled again.

Don't remember too much after that besides walking the streets of Chinatown myself until I found a cab and passed out in it until I arrived at Zella's Bar in Chicago for round two of Halloween partying hooray for bouncers actually letting me into another bar and hooray for bartenders that looked at me and said "yes this guy really does need another drink". Needless to say my head felt like I was getting continuously spin kicked in the head by Jean Claude Van Damme (think Bloodsport Van Damme vs Chong Li in the final fight) until about 5pm.

  • Full Contact fighting in Dallas

    Sunday, Oct 21, 2007 6:31AM / Members only

I've decided to add my fight in the Taiji Legacy in Dallas, Tx as my first blog. Mainly, because I'm pretty damn proud and happy with my performance...well it was also my first KO on an opponent...well to be more exact it was a TKO either way pretty cool shit.

Ok so here goes the first round and I'm not gonna lie I was a little nervous there were some good fights before mine and of course I wanted to kick some ass and give a good show. I really wanted to represent our school (Ng Family Martial Arts Association) hence my sexy blue shorts with our logo on it along with my Apollo Creed white gloves. With lots going trough my mind everything cleared as soon as I punched him in the face...not gonna lie it awesome to hit someone as hard as I wanted to. I  thought I should be fair, so I made sure to hit him to the body also.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIQAHksHLSE

After the first round I thought it was going pretty well...I wasn't getting hit too much and I was punching and kicking him a good bit. Well he did have some take downs on me...bastard. Anyways the judges scored the round 2 to 1 in my favor. That didn't sit well with my I felt my blood boil as I got back up for the 2nd round to begin.  I felt I clearly won that round and should have been scored 3 to 0 in my favor.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gu9O30qfGa4&mode=related&search=

I fought with a lot of anger and the only thing I could hear was my Sifu in the background Yelling "Continue", "Continue", "Continue"....ok Sifu no problem I'll keep it up...and sure enough after a little talking to by the ref for not defending himself  "POW" just like in the old Batman live action show it ended with an uppercut also known in our Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu style as oddly enough "POW".  The ref called the fight because his legs were wobbly and he couldn't defend himself...pretty good job by the ref, since in the end of the video he looks KOed on his feet as it is.

I do want to give props to my opponent for putting up a good fight and throwing me around. If you guys haven't fought before I highly recommend it. I hope you guys enjoy the fight should be many more to come.

You guys train in san shou, cool. You plannin' on competing in the 10th World Wushu/San Shou Championship in Oct.? I took a long hiatus from training but I totally want to compete. I'm going to start training at the EBM Kung Fu Academy again, home of the Oakland San Shou Team (http://kungfu.net/).

Just want anyone reading this to know that my bro, Big Al, hooked me up with all that I needed (fun stuff, happy stuff, kung fu stuff, training stuff, etc.) and made my trip super. Thanks bro, and all our tight kung fu family members like Ken, Bob, King, etc. for schooling me on what it really means to be home sweet home :)

    THANKS BROS!
