In the beginning Val grew up wanting to be a paleontologist. His fascination with them was fueled further when Jurassic park was released. Then, after being influenced by the popular Television show Ally McBeal, he decided to become a lawyer. He had a lot of support from his family but, once he found out that there was extensive reading involved, he dropped that idea in a heartbeat.
A year before his final exams in secondary school a friend introduced him to the idea of short films. Before this phase, Val had already been an avid movie fan. He idolized Jean Claude Van Dam. During his free time, Val would practice doing the splits. He even joined a martial arts class so that he could do the kicks that Van Dam could do!
After experiencing the wonders of short films, Val made a strong decision. He decided to make a career in the filming industry. Val enrolled in Lasalle College of the arts and studied video art. He would do commercial action pieces for his projects and always amuse and entertain his classmates. Some didn't sit too well with his lecturers but he did them anyways. He graduated with a diploma in video arts.
Three years after his graduation, Val came back into the filming industry. This time as an actor. He wanted to explore his potential and being naturally shy and reserved he felt that doing this would help him overcome that. After his first acting experience, he was hooked. It was like he'd been hit by a burst of clarity. Val felt that he was born to do this! Everything began to make sense to him. All his past experiences were not a waste of time.
Val went on to further explore the fantastic world of acting. He enrolled in various acting classes. The most memorable one was the one he did at NYU TISCH Asia. It was conducted by John Wills Martin. Val was truly stretched and bombarded with new concepts and ideas. He felt challenged at times but at the same time he saw himself growing as an actor.
Val spent the next two years auditioning for a variety of roles. He did some theatre. He hosted his own martial arts sports program. He Was involved in a local independent action production which was the first of its kind. Had the honor to rehearse and work with an actress from the television series, “ Legend of the seeker.” He also left his mark around south east asia after appearing in Crime and investigation as one of the lead characters.
Learning and always striving to improve is something Val beliefs in strongly. He constantly seeks to improve himself not just as an actor but as a person as well. By feeding his mind with positive material ranging from audio tapes, videos and various books Val doesn't just internalize them, he puts them into practice immediately.
When he's not acting or performing, during the weekends Val uses his time to catch up with friends. He would either party with them or have a nice quiet evening over some drinks, whilst having deep discussions about life.
Val's aim is to be an actor who inspires. He wishes to make people leave the cinema feeling motivated and fired up after watching him. A personal promise he made to himself was that once he's made a name for himself, he would channel his resources to help children in need. Val believes that every child should have a wonderful childhood full of dreams and desires. He also believes that when there's a will, there's a way. Thus your childhood dreams and desires should not be forgotten.
