  • HeartBreaker

    Thursday, Mar 25, 2010 7:25AM / Members only

Am getting addicted to G-Dragon's Heartbreaker song. Kinda stuck in my brain at the moment. GD resembles an anime character with the blond hairstyle, tho am not liking the tight outfits. For some reason, Death Note springs to mind. Must be the apple logo.

    Here's G-dragon's original heartbreaker MV

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOXEVd-Z7NE

Now compare it with this dude JDRelic singing Heartbreaker in English. Still prefer the korean version, but hey the english one doesnt sound too bad either.

Side - note: GD created some controversy with his Breathe concert performance. Thoughts?

  • Doubt (-ダウト)

    Thursday, Mar 18, 2010 4:20AM / Members only

What initially started as a brief perusal of the 1st chapter soon led to a frenzied reading of the whole series within a span of few hours.

I am talking about Doubt. A shonen manga of the horror genre. Now what would you do if you are left with a group of people with hidden killer amongst 'em, and everyone is getting slaughtered one by one? And everyone suspects you coz you're the odd one out?

it's been ages since I've read such a good manga. And the graphics were not too bad either.

    Go read it...

  • U speak English or Me Speak English

    Thursday, Mar 18, 2010 3:43AM / Members only

Once more I get amazed at how certain ethnic group have limited understanding of English, when it is supposed to be their mother tongue. Yet citizens of Non-English speaking countries are expected to...no... are made COMPULSORY to sit for IELTS, TOEFL, etc to prove that they can understand basic English. Bah!

    Story 1

I was asked to reassure a certain young adult, so I tell her "A+B=C"... using very basic english explanations even by MY Malaysian standard. I reiterated once more "A+B=C"... then made sure she understood me by asking her whether she was happy with my explanation. I was empathatic and caring enough to ask her "do you have any further questions?"... of which she gave a negative reply.

90minutes later, I was paged once more to explain things to her again. dammit. so the whole rigmarole starts again. "A+B=C"..re-emphasizing..."A+B=C"...do u understand?... "A plus B equals to C!"... fine, she was satisfied.

Why was I not surprised to receive yet ANOTHER call 2 hours later. She dinnae get it... So i did the whole cycle AGAIN. Fine, she said she understood. Guess what happened 15 minutes before the end of my shift... yes, she lost her comprehension of the complexity of the situation once more. So in total I had to explain FOUR freaking times.. "A+B=C" in total.

*note: young adult is someone >20years old; A+B=C actually stands for the conversation; 'dinnae' is Scottish for 'did not'*

    Story 2

I just came back from a tour to Germany. Now I had joined a Castle tour led by this chatty German lady with a quirky sense of humor. Let's call her Anna. Anna serves to emphasize how having English as your mother tongue doesnt mean you really understand english. Anna is German and speaks deutsch as her mother tongue. She learnt English as a 2nd language.

so Anna tells EVERYONE ( this includes Msians, Japanese, Koreans, American and British nationals) to come back at a set time to the bus to ensure we all get to go to our next destination on time.

She explained the time once on the bus, using a LARGE children toy clock, to not only thr group understands her in perfect enunciated English, but also able to visually get her message.

She did that again a second time when everyone got off the bus. practically waving the clock in front of everyones face.

Now us non-English-mother-tongue ppl had no problems whatso-ever understanding Anna. Imagine my staggered shock when 15minutes later, when i was standing near Anna, to hear an American tourist asking "are you sure we can't go that way? what time are we meeting again?"

Ok, maybe the tourist was trying to squeeze in some extra exploring time... but seriously, HOW CAN YOU NOT GET THE TIME?! If it had all been explained in Deutsch then yes, you would be confused. But everything was explained in PURE ENGLISH... TWICE... WITH VISUAL ASSISTANCE.

Oh I can go on and on.... sometimes I get handwritten/typed request letters from my colleagues... and heaven sake... spell properly lar.... what's the point of writing "Phaechromocytoma" perfectly when you spell "phone" as "fone"... and so on.

Dont even get me started about European Union.

  • corrected QT interval = QT/square root of RR wave.

    Tuesday, Mar 2, 2010 2:02AM / Members only

Gammon joint now roasting away in oven. And it crossed my mind I can rant a bit regarding an event on Saturday. A wee boy came in, practically a baby. Presenting complaint of basically going white and keeling over unconscious.

So then my senior AT tells me to go do an ECG on the boy (which is an electronic heart tracing funky event where I paste slimy stickers on the chest to get a paper reading) and then he MADE me calculate the damn corrected QT interval. Have you any idea how hard it was to calculate the square root of something WITHOUT a calculator. I had to run up another floor to ANOTHER ward just to find one. And forget about using the computer, it did not have the application Calculator installed.

I love my LG phone, but now I realized it only has really REALLY basic calculation keys. Dang.

finally, I proudly sought out AT and to inform him i got the damn number...and then he goes to the damn PC.. goes to Google... and looks up some ECGpedia thingy, of which just calculates EVERYTHING for you! And I had spent close to 30minutes trying to find a stupid calculator. The wonders of the internet... Bah! AT had found it amusing watching me flip through drawers looking for a calculator and 'conveniently' forgot to tell me of this little gadget.. really felt like slapping him.

  • Finally, the cat is in the house!

    Tuesday, Mar 2, 2010 1:30AM / Members only

I bet Sono is probably longing to throw something at my head now. How many years have you been trying to get me to join AnD again???

Anyway, i've given in and decided to join this community. Basically just came back from work and feeling quite frustrated of spending the whole day dealing with those small little homo sapiens. So sat back and typed away... oh to ease my mind off non-medical stuff.

Would write more, except my stomach is demanding me to cook that tempting gammon joint sitting in the kitchen. Gammon joint in honey... totally weird ..but definitely uniquely savoury. I seriously need to do some more grocery shopping.
