We can always remind ourselfs of who we are by the things we do, the way we are brought and from the cuisines we have. Every year on the Chinese calender, the fifth day of the fifth month we are reminded the death of an ancient poet "Qu Yuan". His was a high official who lived in ancient state of Chu (Yes, my last name, but i didn't have anything to do with it, honest), he was framed of teason and was removed. Legend has it that he commited suicide in the Miluo River, the locals didn't want the fish to eat his body so we make a thing called the "Zongzi" (glutinous rice with some filling wrapped in bamboo leaves) for the fish to eat and not his body.
My nan used to make it every year until about 2 years, she stopped making it, so after literally 2 years of nagging from me, and driving around to collect all the ingredients she decided to make it (Oh Yeah!). Here are some pics:

It takes around 4-5 hours to cook, no wonder my nan didn't want to make it...hehe...

She did make more, the ones she make has either cooked peanuts or green beans as fillings

After unwrapping the bamboo leaves this is what we find

After my nan cut it "masterfully" with a string this is what we get, this is the peanut filing one, my personal favourite that i like to eat with sugar. I kinda regret now, spending 2 years to ask her to make it, now she asked me to eat all of them, i have to eat it 3 meals a day for maybe another 2-3 weeks ahahah....BURP...Sorry!!!
Some pretty cool pictures i found on the web
