TVB Fundraising Show Raises $180 million

Singers, artistes and celebrities gathered at TVB City to take part in a telethon fundraising show to boost donations to the Sichuan Earthquake aid appeal. The three hour show was eventually extended to four hours as the stars made appeals to the audience and gave musical and artistic performances, encouraging viewers and sponsors to give generously and help the victims of the devastating quake, measuring 8 on the Richter Scale, that struck China's Sichuan province on 12 May.

The event was opened by a moment's reflection led by Hong Kong SAR Acting Chief Executive Mr Henry Tang and the performance of the fundraising theme song "Promise" by all the guests and performers. Entertainment acts were then provided by the artistes present, including Liza Wang, Andy Lau, Jacky Cheung, Alan Tam, Aaron Kwok, Hacken Lee, Joey Yung, Miriam Yeung, Gigi Leung, Adam Cheng, Shirley Kwan and Richie Ren. The show was hosted by Nat Chan and Eric Tsang.

The show raised a total of HK$180 million from cheques and telephone pledges received on the show.

yeah... if you do the math, that's like $25 for every person in Hong Kong... even if it's HKD, that's an impressive number...
