  • Casa Batllo (or house of bones)

    Saturday, Nov 21, 2009 4:38PM / Members only

Barcelona is one of the most popular cities in Europe to visit. Millions of people spend their holidays here every year.

After my  strange experience with La Pedrera , Barcelona has another semi-similar kind of structure that is not far from it, so ,now Casa Batllo .

Again Gaudi and his amazing imagination shown himself through this flowing house, 'cause Batllo is like aquarium with all those shapes like wave, ''fish eyes'' glittering above some doors, ''fish bones'' on the banister ... everything looks like you are in the insides of some big whale and you flowing around ... everything vibrate and live here, and the photos speaks more than a thousand words …

You can visit 1st floor (piano nobile), terrace, rear staircase, the attic and roof. It's hard to say which of these spaces is more impressive.

                                            What to mention first?

The fact that the whole building there is no corner or angle, that almost no one line is not straight? The fantastic sense of color that govern every inch of space? Or how each item in this orgy of imagination  is a perfectly practical and undeniably of useful?

The ceilings are corrugated, lighting leak thought to allow ventilation, sinks of solid granite and some baskets made of gingerbread complete picture if something made very painstakingly whose final form is to make people stay in place, even just out of curiosity. Kinda like a work of art.

                                        Complicated? Maybe !

                                         Ingenios?Of course !

                                         Worth the effort? Sure!

It is in one of the nicest districts in Barcelona.

What I find unique about the building is how there are not many straight lines, in fact, I have trouble finding even one.

Another impressive part of the building, is how the stone looks malleable and smooth.  The floor is also really great. I also admired all the mosaic one can see in its facade, because it’s made of broken ceramic tiles calles “trencadis.”

The first sunday of every month to be more specific, one can enter for free and even go up to the roof.

Well, the roof for this casa, is definitely not something to be missed, for it is arched like what more people would describe as a back of a dragon.

After some time the building had begun to deteriorate, and loose its colors.   So ,don’t waste time and go to visit!

  • Barcelona-Casa Mila or ''La Pedrera''

    Saturday, Nov 7, 2009 4:20PM / Members only

Casa Mila, best known as La Pedrera, one of Gaudi's buildings made for eternity and one of the most complete example of Gaudi’s concept of Nature. This was just one of the reasons not to miss this in Barcelona. Under the sunshine facade looked like flowing through the space, the most because of the line like a wave which follow the movement of the whole building.

In the yard the same feeling, soft lines without sharp corners, and I entered with curiosity what’s the next.

I was amazed by sculptures on the roof and couldn’t stop to make a photos, but as time passed by I started to feel some strange energy from all around. Maybe I sound like a freak to you, but I couldn’t make distance from this stone creatures  “born” from Gaudi’s mind and imagination (I have to admit in one moment I thought he was in some schizophrenic phase when constructed this building), so little by little I lose my breath, as this statues “from other space” takes my energy.

                                             Strange feeling, isn’t it?

And hard to explain , just this roof was as live organism for me with some strange energy, and even is amazing, after 1 hour wandering around the roof I run away.

So, La Pedrera is absolutely unique, as in architectural way, also with that special energy spreading around, and be sure you can’t be “stone” among all those creatures, maybe not on the  way as it influenced  on me,  but you will tell me your story when you get there , because it deserves a visit!

  • Barcelona-Sagrada Familia-one and unique

    Tuesday, Nov 3, 2009 8:46PM / Members only

''Holy Church is one of the most visited monuments in Barcelona.''

Probably the main tourist destination of the city is the famous Cathedral Sagrada Familia, Gaudi's still unfinished masterpiece!

The architecture is impressive and, above all, uniform. Everything is very neat. People are friendly and relaxed. Aware of the presence of tourists in their town, if you ask directions, they will take care to guide you until they are sure that you are on the right way.

Even though the Sagrada Familia is far from finished, the  remarkable church is well worth a visit.   You can visit the crypt were Gaudi is buried.  The museum tells the story of this great architect and the history of the churches.

You can also visit the towers. Atop a tower is the symbolic tree of life, decorated with doves flying free.

A lift and a long walk will lead you to the top of the tower where you have a magnificent view over Barcelona. The climb is not recommended for those with fear of heights or for people with claustrophobia!

Visitors who wish to climb the tower, without lift, are forced to climb about 350 steps. It's a bit worrying because of the narrow spiral staircase.

                              scary stairs....

I don’t want to write more about Sagrada Familia, so I would like to enjoy  in photos and hope some of them will attend you to visit this beautiful place!

What I don't like is their work program. In Barcelona there are no shops open nonstop...

    Will  continue....

  • My first trip to Barcelona-"Any travel is a life lesson!!!!"

                                  Park Guell- BARCELONA!!!

The most beautiful city in the world? Yeah, I'm sure!

And not only I am saying that. I've not traveled much throughout the world and, with only my limited experience, I did not want to compare. But, others who have said this are people more experienced than I, who have been all over the world, from Sri Lanka to Latin America, from Africa to Japan.  Obviously, I have uploaded just a few pictures, which seem relevant to me. If you like, I will post more here ...

One day I was at Guell Park. It is huge! We walked around the park for 3 hours and still could not see everything. Ah, I love it!       At the top of Guell Park is a terraced area where you get a wonderful view of the park and of Barcelona City. The park contains amazing stone structures, stunning tiling and fascinating buildings.

You can see from this picture the Gaudi dragon fountain that is at the entrance to Guell Park.

However, if you have never been to Barcelona, get ready for a "visual journey" that is very entertaining ... I hope you enjoy what I've captured in my blog!!!

I'm not going to neglect my blog for a long time. I just simply had to write to Barcelona, and I did not know where to start nor of course how!  ... The necessary apologies to readers'' !

I will continue with the next day in the next blog....

  • Great voice!

    Sunday, Oct 18, 2009 4:11PM / Members only

I  can sing this really well karaoke, not as good as Kelly  Clarkson though.

Without music it sounds so much more emotional...In acapella's version shows the perfection of her voice and how good she is! She does not force the sound out, just comes out naturally. That's what I  love about her!
