Michael Jackson's Memorial
Wednesday, Jul 8, 2009 6:18AM / Members only
I just finished watching the Michael Jackson Memorial on cbs.com. It was a really good homegoing celebration. I watched on the internet on ustream and cbs.com and i watched cnn on tv. I also was on the tweetdeck receiving updates from a cbs reporter who was inside the staples center. he did a good job with the tweets. I actually cried. Rev. Al Sharpton really preached his testimony (the official pastor was the family's preacher Rev. Lucious Smith). He had me clapping and shouting. Queen Latifah read a poem by Dr. Maya Angelou. It was written just for the funeral and Michael. Mariah Carey and Trey Lorenz were the first to sing. She sang I'll be there.Jennifer Hudson sang with a choir. She looked good, very pregnant.Stevie Wonder sang too. Usher sang and went down to the casket like he was serenading him. Jermaine Jackson sang Michael's favorite song Smile. Brooke Shields spoke about her and Mike sneaking into Elizabeth Taylor's bedroom hoping to see the wedding dress first, and finding Elizabeth asleep in the bed. She brought more tears.Smokey Robinson smoke,Lionel Ritchie sang. Bernice and Martin King3 definitely inherited their dad's speaking skills. I first thought Texas Rep. Jackson-Lee was an unnecessary but, she really gave a moving testimony. John Mayer played Human Nature which has always been one of my favorite Michael Jackson songs. But Britians Got Talent winner Shaheen Jafagholi, a little boy, brought the house down. He was supposed to sing with Michael's London This is it tour. Barry Gordon said if he was still in the business, he sign him tomorrow. Kobe Bryant and Magic Johnson spoke. magic told how he went to dinner and asked for grilled chicken and Michael ate Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Magic was like "Mike you eat KFC". The saddest part for me was when his daughter Paris spoke and broke down in tears. She said he was the best dad and she loved him. Marlon spoke too and more tears. I have a headache I cried so much. My sister J. says that's because I'm crazy that I didn't know him. But it was very moving and tastefully done. The casket was bronze with 14kt gilt, was covered with red roses. It's rumored to have cost $25,000. LAPD spent $3.8 million for the police coverage. They did a good job. I forgot who they said paid for everything inside the Staples Center and the Center itself. But the city is still expecting $2-$4million in unpaid city services. The police set up a website for donations to pay for everything. I had put up screenshots on my facebook page, but they have been removed so. The only one that is left up there is of Stevie Wonder. I guess it was considered to be in poor taste, but the news have photos up and some are already on flicker. His brothers all wore 1 white glove. Cecily Tyson says her designer was the one that designed Michael's glove, and the reason he started wearing it was because the vitilago first appeared on that hand. I always wondered why the glove, now we know.

Roadtrip Hell

A couple of weeks ago, well last week actually, I went with my BFF's family to Pennsylvania for her cousin's funeral. Nothing went as planned. I don't know why I'm even surprised. She calls me Tuesday night to ask me if I could leave the next day, and help her with the 12hr drive. She said she pick me up wednesday at 5pm. I've known that girl for almost 10 years and she's NEVER been on time for anything. I don't know why I thought a family emergency would be different. I stayed up all night washing and packing clothes. I went to bed when the sun came up. The plan was for me to drive first because she had to work that day and would be tired. She would pick me up when she got off work then pick up her mother and niece. I called her at 4:30pm to see where she was at, and that girl had the nerve to say she went straight home so she could change and get her bags. She hung up before I could ask how long she'd be. She knew that was what was coming out of my mouth next. I already wasn't happy. My sister had used up the last of my nair and I had to shave my legs(>-<). My other sister used up all my bath and body passion fruit shower gel. That was a brand new bottle. I only used it a couple of times. I hate sharing a bathroom with them. But to top it off, my sister was doing her hair and asked if she could use my relaxer kit, and that she would buy one to replace it later that day. She used it and didn't buy me a damn thing. Now I got to go out-of-town nappy-headed. Plus my hair is naturally curly and in the summer humidity I look like I got a dried out geri curl. So I said let me at least dye my hair black. Then I can just press and curl it. Of course my new box of black hair dye was gone too. I'm not saying she took it, but we do share a room, and she had told me it wouldn't look good on me as it was too dark and I would look like a witch. I notice she's sporting a jet-black look these days.hmm. I'm stuck taking her raggedy-looking wig as back-up. It was cute 2 years ago when she brought it, but it's time to retire it to wig heaven. So I'm packing and I'm trying to find something to wear for the funeral. I have 1 club dress, 1 sundress, and 2 suits. I didn't know if the church her family went to allowed women to wear pants, and my bff wasn't answering her phone, so I was forced to go into my mother's closet for a funeral dress. My mom is a pack-rack. She doesn't throw any clothing away that can still be worn. She still has clothes from when she was in college back in the '70s. Clothes she knows she can never fit into again. You need a helmet, safety line, and flashlight to go into her closet. We aren't really the same size, I have more up top and she has more on the bottom, but she has few things we can share. If she were inclined to do so. She is still holding it against me from the time I borrowed her dry-clean only black skirt, and washed it in the washer and it shrunk. My mom can hold a grudge until the end of time. I was only 12. So I tell her I need a dress, and she finally agrees to letting me borrow her beige linen dress with matching jacket. She gives me directions on were she thought it should be in her closet. Fate was against me. First, the light bulb was out in the closet and I needed to find a new one. She recently brought these environmentally friendly light bulbs that are supposed to be energy efficient and longer lasting(NOT) and there was one left. I get it and climb up and change the bulb. She looks and says "that's not bright enough, get a different one". I'm now running around the house looking for a higher watt light bulb to put in her closet. I had a 100 watt in my reading lamp, but no way was I giving that up. I found a 60 watt and started again. I provided much entertainment for my mother as she watched me climb over stuff in her closet looking for that dress. You can't even see the floor with all the shoes, and junk in there. 20 minutes later and no dress. Finally, she's like check the garment racks. My mom has so many clothes that she has like 3 garment racks filled with clothes. They take up one whole wall in her room. I'm not even talking about the 2 dressers, the 3 trunks and half-of-dozen clothes baskets she has. I make my way over to the racks. It was like rock-climbing. You never knew if you were on sturdy grown or not. Any given second an avalanche of clothes could fall on your head. By the time I hit the second rack I found the dress. She then says take that green skirt set just in case, that's just your size. Translation, she must have felt guilty for laughing at me digging for that dress, and 2, the dress was too big in the top for her. My mom never gives away something for nothing. I try on the dress and mom and the sister agree the beige looks best. but, the sister says I definitely need to iron it. She knows me well. I'm not a girly-girl and I only iron my work uniform, Everything else I wear straight out the dryer wrinkled or not. Usually people hate my wrinkledness and will iron my clothes for me. Unfortunately, my sisters are even lazier than me, and won't iron for me at all. Now it's time for shoes. The one pair of beige shoes I have, are hard to walk in. I can walk in them just fine, but they make that annoyingly loud slapping sound when I do. I wore them twice and put them up. Regretfully I have the biggest feet in my family(size 11ww) and can't borrow from my mom or sisters who all wear a convenient size 8. I have everything I need except for a travel-size bottle of baby powder. I go to 2 different stores and nobody has travel baby powder. Finally, I go back to the house, because the bff said she was on her way and it would be just my luck for her to get there before me, and then I'd have to hear her mouth. I rushed home for nothing and without the baby powder either. Finally, around 8pm she texts me that she is on the way. She lives about 20 minutes down the street from me. How come it took her an hour to arrive? I had carried my bag outside and was waiting for her because she doesn't like to wait.
I don't know why but everybody is always scared to park in my driveway. It's like they think my Mom will rip them a new one if they do. An hour later it's dark and the mosquitos are biting, I carry my bags back in side. As soon as I sit down she pulls up. Now common sense should tell you, that when embarking on a roadtrip with 3 other people, you might want to CLEAN OUT YOUR TRUNK. She had the nerve to talk about my 1 dufflebag my laptop bag, and lunchbox. Why would you leave your camp chairs, footbath, and half your shoe collection in your trunk before going out of town. I don't know why I am surprised. I'm used to it from dealing with my mom and sisters who mistakenly believe their car is an extension of their closet. I take everything out and re-arrange things leaving room for her mom and niece. I get in adjust the seat and arrange my sportsbottle(another bitch session ensues over the fact it won't fit in the side of the door and she is using the cup holders to hold her drink and the navigator. she uses the ashtray as a coin purse.) It's 9:30pm and we leave to go pick up her niece who lives right around the corner from me. She didn't know this and had to call her sister to give me directions. Her and her sister are lousy at giving directions. I was too salty when we pulled up to the apartment gate and it was right around the corner from me. Her directions had us driving up and down the street looking for her apartments. We get in and you know the sisters have to talk a minute as if they haven't seen each other in years. The bff pulls out all the shopping bags to show the sister and niece the things she brought for the niece to take on the trip. The niece had 1 backpack and her purse. At 13 she's the only sane one among them. I have to totally repack the trunk. We start out to get her mom who lives on the northside of town, were on the southside. Now common sense would have said to pick-up her mom first, since it's on the way home from her job. Instead of getting right on the highway, we have to backtrack 45 minutes to get her mom. We finally get there and her mom had went to bed. She got tired of waiting for us. It was around midnight at that point and we still hadn't got gas. We wake mom up and she totes out this big old samsonite hard-case suitcase. It takes up more than half the trunkspace. Me and the bff just look at each other, and I get out to unload the trunk again because her suitcase is so big it has to go on the bottom. Everyone gets in the car and the bff says she hasn't eating dinner yet and she needs to eat before we get gas. Atlanta has alot of things but late night restaurants are not one of them. The bff doesn't realize how late it is because all the places she wants to eat at are closed. Finally, it's the drive-thru at checkers. Next we search for gas. My bff is the type who will drive way out the way to buy "cheap" gas. We passed several open gas stations,(most close by 11pm) only to get to the one she wanted to find it CLOSED. We turn around and go back to the Quicktrip across the street from her momma's house. I'm not lying this actually happened. Naturally everyone has to get out and buy drinks and snacks for the trip. I brought my own with me. It's 1AM and we make it onto the interstate. Mom and niece went to sleep in the backseat, and after explaining how the navigator worked, bff went to sleep to. Normally, I'd be cool with that but 1. we left so late I was going to have to drive at night and my night vision sucks, and 2. she LEFT the satellight radio adapter at home!!!!! I spent all night uploading music to my zune so I wouldn't have to carry my big cd case with me. All she had were 3 scratchy cd's of Mariah Carey's E=MC2, R.Kelley's R , and one of her weird mixtape cds.Thank God the niece had her Fergie and Beyonce cds. I drove 12hrs through the appaloachian mountains with crappy music. Now I was just going to put my headphones on but the bff confiscated it stating that it was a safety hazard. She claimed I wouldn't be able to hear the traffic. This from a woman who stays on her blue-tooth crackberry with the radio bass blasting on high while SHE drives. Needless to say, day one of our trip and I was not a happy camper. I drove all night, they only woke up to go to the bathroom when I stopped for gas. They finally woke-up thursday morning around 9am. I wish they would have stayed sleeping, they immediately became back and side-seat drivers. Mind you Mom's hasn't driven in 20 years and the bff has only had her license since december and that's after taking the driving test 5 times. I'll write about day 2 later, if i feel like it. I really needed to vent. Oh and why were we so late starting? The bff hadn't even washed her clothes yet. She had to go home and wash before she could pack her bags.(-.-)

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
Friday, May 15, 2009 3:32AM / Members only
it's weird. One of my friends forwarded me an email on white pride and how come white people are the only ones to be considered racist. As her first and oldest black friend she wanted to know if I found that offensive, and what did I think about the issue. I'm her go to person for questions concerning black issues. We've been friends since the 6th grade and can talk about everything even uncomfortable issues. This whole topic came up concerning Michael Richards(Kramer of Seinfield) lawsuit by two black men he called niggers after they heckled him during his show. In court as part of his defense he wanted to know why being proud to be white was bad, and why it was ok for whites to be called honkey, cracker and other racial epitaphs, but if he used the the racial slurs nigger, gook, sand nigger, towelhead etc. he was a racist. I told her that Kramer was missing the point. That it was not wrong of him to be proud to be white but it was wrong to belittle other people. He got mad at being made fun(an occupational hazard for an entertainer) and responded by being offensive. I told her a better way for him to deal with the rude black guys was to ask them to leave the show if they didn't like it and that he would have the box office refund their money, but that their behavior was ruining the show for the rest of the audience. If he had said something like that he would have shown those 2 men to be rude and obnoxious without being rude and offensive himself. But he took the easy route and starting using profanity and the n-word. Now he is being sued and suffered a loss of popularity. He had alot of black fans until he went there. Black people are loyal supporters until you cross that line and use the N- word then it's ass-whooping time. LOL anyway in his speech he brought up the fact that other minorities were african-american,hispanic-american,asian-american,arab-american,native-american but that white people were just plain american. He also stated how we had our own tv station(BET) but if there was a WET(white entertainment television) it be racist. I guess he doesn't consider that all the other networks in America except for the 3 spanish and 1 asian networks(KBS America) are white owned and operated. Even BET is now white-owned. He also said we have our own colleges, chamber of commerces, business organizations and black history month and Martin Luther King Day. I told my friend that we started all of those things not because we were superior and wanted to be exclusive but because at that time in history when most of those civil rights groups and organizations were funded, the law of the land(jim crow laws) prevented us from joing the white organizations. I reminded her that black people had been enslaved for over 400 years, and that we've only been free in the usa for 144 years. and of that 144 years it's only been 44 years since the jim crow laws that required minorities to be seperate but equal were ended, and you can't expect an entire race of people to shake off the remains of oppression that quickly. Even today the voting rights act that gives us the legal right to vote has to be renewed every 50 years. If we're all citizens and equal under the law, why not amend the constitution to reflect that once and for all. White people didn't want us using their stuff, so we had to get our own. And he wants to trip off the fact that we got 1 black hero day, and that the shortest month in the year is black history month. White people are mad because we got 29 days to celebrate the accomplishments of black people compared to the 12 months full of whte people holidays. I said the hispanics got their month even though I'm not sure which month it is, but that the asians were left out. We About an hour after I emailed her, I got an email update from one of my wire feeds stating that President Barack Obama just changed all that. He officially recognized the accomplishments of Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders by making the month of May Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Congrats for getting your props at last. Although I always thought Pacific Islanders were ethnically Asians. Why do they seperate the two categories? Anyway Obama has not forgotten his asian roots(had an indonesian stepfather and 2 half-asian sisters) and is giving them(asians) the recognition asian-americans deserve for making this nation great. here is a copy of his proclamation.

For Immediate Release May 1, 2009
ASIAN AMERICAN AND PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE MONTH, 2009
- - - - - -
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
The vast diversity of languages, religions, and cultural traditions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders continues to strengthen the fabric of American society. From the arrival of the first Asian American and Pacific Islander immigrants 150 years ago to those who arrive today, as well as those native to the Hawaiian Islands and to our Pacific Island territories, all possess the common purpose of the fulfilling the American dream and leading a life bound by the American ideals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
During Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we remember the challenges and celebrate the achievements that define our history.
Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have endured and overcome hardship and heartache. In the earliest years, tens of thousands of Gold Rush pioneers, coal miners, transcontinental railroad builders, as well as farm and orchard laborers, were subject to unjust working conditions, prejudice, and discrimination——yet they excelled. Even in the darkness of the Exclusion Act and Japanese internment, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have persevered, providing for their families and creating opportunities for their children.
Amidst these struggles, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have contributed in great and significant ways to all aspects of society. They have created works of literature and art, thrived as American athletes, and prospered in the world of academia. Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have played a vital role in our Nation's economic and technological growth by establishing successful enterprises and pushing the limits of science. They are serving in positions of leadership within the government more now than ever before. And along with all of our great service men and women, they have defended the United States from threats at home and abroad, serving our Nation with valor.
>From the beaches of the Pacific islands and the California coast, the grasslands of Central Asia and the bluegrass of Kentucky , and from the summits of the Himalayas and the Rocky Mountains , the Asian American and Pacific Islander community hails from near and far. This is the story of our more perfect union: that it is diversity itself that enriches, and is fundamental to, the American story.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America , by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States , do hereby proclaim May 2009, as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. I call upon the people of the United States to learn more about the history of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and to observe this month with appropriate programs and activities.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this first day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand nine, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-third.BARACK OBAMA

Kentucky Fried Chicken Coupon Scam
Saturday, May 9, 2009 6:25AM / Members only
I'm so mad at Kentucky Fried Chicken. They totally got over with the 2pc grilled chicken dinner coupon scam. I went through all the trouble of downloading the coupon(i had to install the kfc coupon printer and adobe reader 9) and couldn't use it. I went to 3 different KFC's and none would except the coupon. I printed my coupon out on the 6th because the website was so busy on the 5th, I couldn't get on. I tried to use my coupon on the 7, and got nothing, nada, zip. The first one I went to is the main one I use that is by my house. They said they were no longer accepting anymore coupons. The coupon is good until the 19 of May,with Mother's Day being blacked out. How can you just stop accepting the coupon after 1 day? The second KFC I went to said they weren't accepting coupons that had a bar code ending in 1234. All the coupons have that bar code! Then they said they were only going to give you 1 side order instead of the 2 that comes with the dinner and is listed on the coupon. The third said they had to many people trying to redeem the coupon and weren't going to accept it anymore. I'm so pissed I don't even want to see a KFC anymore. Now I worked at KFC in highschool and my store was independently owned.I know for a fact that independent franchise holders still have to follow official KFC promotions. So telling me they wouldn't accept the coupon because they were independently owned is a bold faced lie. I understand that there was a run on KFC stores nationwide. But, this kind of promotion has to have been planned in advanced.Everybody knows Oprah has 10million viewers. KFC should have expected all 10million viewers AND their families would try and use the coupon. They should have stockpiled supplies and informed all their stores that they were having this 2 week special before the promotion started. I'm about through with Oprah and her suppossedly "free" stuff. But what made me even madder, was they told everyone to return to UnthinkKFC.com and print out a new coupon with different barcodes, only to have the site be closed. Then they gave a 1800CALLKFC number if you had a problem using the coupon. I spent a good hour trying to get through.no such luck. I finally sent them an email. I even checked the list of participating stores, and the 3 I went to were all on the list. Today the president of KFC came on tv and apologized. He says if you take your coupon to a KFC store, they will give you a raincheck for a time when you can come back and use your coupon. That's right they want you to come back and get a raincheck. A raincheck at the KFC. What's next? I don't even want a dinner anymore. He said they didn't expect such an overwhelming response and that they weren't prepared for the increased volume of business. It's not like they are a new business. We are in a recession, and you don't think people will jump on a free meal? They need to go back to KFC College. They dropped a ball on this for real. They need to upgrade me to a bucket meal, after all the paper, ink, and gas I wasted. My Mom said it best:"from now on we are a Popeye's family"

Epik High or Bust
Saturday, May 2, 2009 11:31PM / Members only
I must be crazy. I'm seriously considering spending my last $200 and hopping a bus across the country just to see Epik High. My favorite korean hip-hop group is coming to america.
The only problem is they are going to be on the east and west coast and i live near neither one of them. New York City is closer to me, it's only a 23hr busride. unfortunately, i don't have any family in nyc to crash with. so do i want to sleep in a nyc bus station for one night just to see tablo? really i do. or i could risk the pig flu and spend 3 days on a bus through swine flu territory and safety and security of sleeping on my Aunt's couch. decisions, decisions. it might just come down to money. It's only $120rt ATL-NYC by greyhound bus. Plus less exposure to potential pig flu carriers. So what if i have to sleep in the bus terminal. the homeless do it all the time. why does thought of this fill me with fear. i'm already leary of travelling by bus, ever since some psycho stabbed an beheaded this 19yr old guy on the greyhound. Do you know everybody, includeing the bus driver ran off the bus, instead of trying to save that kid. they should have bum rushed the killer. the cowards. so that's a worry. but to be honest i'm more afraid of the flu. i don't have insurance and i get sick at the drop of a hat. and my asthma makes me a high-risk candidate. 3 days through the southwest and swine flu ground zero. i should be okay. i'll bring some lysol and (for this i won't be cheap and get the generic) spray down the bus seat, and wear a face mask. it's only 3 days each way. I can stay and visit my aunt, do a little sight-seeing, i've never been to cali before. But, it's $166rt atl-la. i'll have to pack enough groceries for the trip there and back. i won't have any money for souvenirs. where's my tax rebate when i need it? I really want to support them, since you can't buy their albums here. There latest Map the Human Soul, is the first to be available on Itunes. of course I have all their albums courtesy of the internet file sharing. down with digital copyright. in my defense, i uploaded all the cd's i paid for, so it's more sharing then stealing. and i do buy the cd's when i can find them, i'm really glad they marketed this album through itunes. i listen to all my music on computer or my zune anyway. i just wish more world music was available. I just don't know what to do. the practical me,says go stay with your aunt, the cheap, money-hungry me, says nyc and concert memorabilia. after all it's only for 1 night.
Epik High, Myk,Kero One, Far East Movement Concert Schedule: San Fransisco- May 15,2009, Los Angeles-May 16 2009, New York City-May 22,2009,Seattle-May 23, 2009(sold out). Tickets $30-$35. VIP$67.50(nyc only). www.cgnlive.com www.mapthesoul.com
