  • Halloween 2008

    Monday, Nov 3, 2008 9:21AM / Members only

So Halloween this year I actually chose to celebrate in a way. Halloween this year has been something that I planned for but never acted out on. First character I wanted to be was Raiden from Metal Gear Solid 4. Got lazy and never tried to get a good quality Raiden costume. My next costume was just the yellow jumpsuit from The Game of Death. I was to be Bruce Lee. I couldn't find the costume mainly because of my procrastination and going out the day before Halloween for a costume. So while I'm too lazy to think about costumes, I just get myself a leather jacket and say that I'll be Eric Draven aka The Crow. If I can't impersonate Bruce Lee, I can at least make an effort to become Brandon Lee. My makeup was messed up because I don't have eyebrows close to my eyes like Brandon Lee, making the black on my eyes really big and dominant. The lines for my eyes also went too high, but oh well. Everyone thought it was a good attempt especially for being very last minute.

So we go out to this house party hosted by good friends and family. The night is going very well until the inevitable happens: a fight. Or rather fights. So to make things worse is that my sister's boyfriend, his brother, and his boss start getting targeted despite having absolutely nothing to do with these dumb ass fights. We are pretty much all Asians at this party but Asians have the tendency to have reservations or ignorant feelings towards a different Asian person. So with my sister's boyfriend and them being the only Vietnamese folks or rather the only different folks at the party, they got singled out. Talk about some misunderstanding. Our cousins hosting the party, while they had to hold a lot of people back, quickly made it a point that we had nothing to do with anything. But no matter how good your communication skills are, talking to a dumbass won't change the fact that they're a dumbass. So we just left before the real craziness started and I won't even get started on that because shit was all fucked up. Thank God I'm a pacifist haha.

So the party effectively ended around midnight, and instead of hitting up other parties that we were invited to or the clubs which were holding costume parties and having a lot of my friends as guests, we simply opted to go and grab something to eat. We had food before the party, at the party, and the first thing we thought of afterwards was to go eat. Go figure.... well anyways Halloween for me while it built up to a lot of fun and ended off on a fight, I won't let some dumb fucks ruin the feeling of having a blast with the people I love.

Alivenotdead does not have a fast enough uploader for me to upload all the pictures I have.... so my Myspace has all the pictures. I just have a few below.

  • NBA Finals Conclusion

    Thursday, Jun 19, 2008 3:01AM / Members only

Well the Lakers couldn't give a fight in their final game which is a shame. Kobe will be denied his 4th ring, Phil Jackson will be denied his tiebreaker with Red Auerbach. Last night's game had to be the worst game of the finals. What seperated the Lakers from the Celtics was their passiveness. Kobe was literally surrounded by 5 celtics everytime he got anywhere near 15 feet from the rim. A lot of times he would dish it out to an open teammate. What would that teammate then do? Instead of taking the wide open shot that should have been taken, they either pump fake in a useless fashion since their man is still recovering from swarming on Kobe, pass the ball to another teammate therefore killing off whatever purpose Kobe's dribble penetration had, or they pass the ball back to Kobe knowing that there's still 5 Cetlics surrounding him. All I can say is that is what seperated the two teams. Everytime Paul Pierce drove it in, he got double teamed (not quadruple teamed but double teamed), and yet the Celtics still made the Lakers pay for that. Why? Because Pierce's teammates weren't scared to shoot the damn ball. Eddie House shot and made his. KG was hitting his all day off of Pierce. Even Rondo was attempting shots. Sure he can't shoot but he was at least shooting the wide open shots. That is more than what the Lakers did as all they did was settle for contested jump shots.

Ah but the Lakers choked big time and there's nothing they can do about it now. All they can hope for is that they will see the Celtics again this time around next year hoping they can even this out.

Now onto the winners: The Boston Celtics. When you have 3 All Star players in Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen, you better be near the top since you have 3 of the best players on one team. Who cares about chemistry and all that crap. Anyone who plays ball or any team sport for that matter, know that when you are with good players, you're going to do well. Now this win is another example of how all the Boston sports teams are doing great this year. The only team who disappointed was the New England Patriots. If they would have won, that would have done many things. If anything, the one thing I find EXTREMELY amusing is how 3 major players in their sports franchises who had a lot to do with their respective teams' success all came from a Minnesota team. In case you guys don't know, Minnesota has had a bad history of sports recently and a lot of key players from these franchises leave under bad terms or leave because their franchises don't realize the value they hold. Well the 3 players I'm talking about are David Ortiz, Randy Moss, and Kevin Garnett. David Ortiz in Minnesota was always a decent hitter and showed promise but Minnesota decided to give up on him and released him. Next thing you know, David Ortiz goes on to win a couple of pendants for the Boston Red Sox. Randy Moss, loved and hated by Minnesota. They didn't know how to build a team when he was here, and they still don't know how to build a proper team. He goes to the Super Bowl with the New England Patriots and people here ask "Hey why didn't he play like that for us?" Well he did play like that for the Vikings, it's just not his fault that the wide recevier role doesn't dictate the entire team. Kevin Garnett wins his first ring but before winning this ring, he got called out by Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor for not showing heart his last couple of years in Minnesota. Now we all know Glen Taylor is full of shit when KG has put up considerable effort throughout his entire career and while KG may have had an effect as to why the team couldn't get any better (largely due to his huge ass contract preventing any considerable free agent signings), to question his heart and dedication to the game especially after trading him is just a low blow. Gee I wonder why KG didn't even thank anyone from Minnesota. Its probably because he knew that Glen Taylor was talking shit about him after he got shipped off.

So yeah, to see these guys do what they've been doing their whole careers and piss off a lot of blind MN sports fans in the process is all too great for me haha. Now on to Mr. Finals MVP 2008 himself: Paul Pierce. All I can say is IT'S ABOUT TIME. Forever was he the most underrated "Star" in the NBA. Funny thing about the Boston Celtics bandwagon fans is that they claim to love the Celtics and all but we all know that 90% of them did not give a shit about Paul Pierce or the Celtics a year ago. Hell even this year, Paul Pierce was still not getting his due credit outside the team. KG was obviously the one getting all the attention. Even with KG admitting that the team is still Pierce's team, Pierce still got less credit for the team's success than KG. Anyone who really knows basketball was not surprised to see that Paul Pierce was the Celtics best player all year round. Sure KG anchored their defense physically and mentally, but Pierce was the guy making the big plays especially in the playoffs. If it weren't for Pierce stepping up his game (of the big three he is their most clutch player), the Celtics wouldn't have even gotten past the Cavs. I knew that Paul Pierce was going to get his due credit sometime this year and I know for a fact that if KG would have been named Finals MVP, then Paul Pierce would forever fail to receive his due credit. So when he was named Finals MVP, I was like "That's the only guy who played like a Finals MVP". You could argue that Ray Allen was a candidate but he didn't have anywhere near the overall effect that Pierce had on the series. Pierce's injury in Game 1 is what drove the Celtics past the Lakers as whenever you see your team's leader go down and come back, you're gonna be hyped up on a high. Paul Pierce's defense on Kobe Bryant was leagues ahead of Ray Allen on Kobe. Paul Pierce is the Finals MVP because he not only did great in this series on an individual standpoint, but he was the Celtics' main playmaker getting everyone involved. He proved to everyone who doubted him in past years what he could do if he simply had teammates who would help him out on the double/triple teams. In past years he would have gotten turnovers or missed baskets off those triple teams, but now with better teammates, he's obviously going to play more natural and effective.

It's funny though. I just read an article that suddenly proclaimed Paul Pierce as the best player from the '98 draft class ahead of Dirk Nowitski. Talk about a reverse in fortunes and talk. Maybe I can finally stop calling Paul Pierce underrated since there seems to be a lot of people opening their eyes for the first time now....

So my family is officially old now. My little sister graduated from high school this past Sunday, effectively marking the time where nobody in my family is below a college level education. Soon we will all be middle aged.

Gosh yesterday, Metal Gear Solid 4 pretty much owned my life for a day. I played that game nonstop and its easily one of the greatest games ever. Definitely the best game for the PS3. Only annoying thing about this game as well as other ps3 games is the install crap. Yay for blu-ray disc read speeds. But oh well, Kojima Productions delivered one hell of a game and I already know how fun the online multiplayer is. They could have messed up with this conclusion to the Metal Gear Solid series, and even though there were a few bumps in retconning the series' canon in this final game, they did a very good job in concluding this saga.

So if you want a good game, go and get Metal Gear Solid 4 and play it. Beware though, you will sacrifice a day playing it haha.

So yes the rivalry of the Celtics and Lakers has finally been revived. So did the first game deliver??? Yes and no. The Celtics played good but they couldn't get a good lead on a struggling Lakers until the Lakers lost their will to play in the fourth quarter. Even though the Lakers struggled, this game still showed good signs for the series. The Lakers executed their plays for most of the game, the problem was the unfortunate way their shots were missing. These shots were not bad shots and were all good looks. It just so happens that 90% of these shots when they missed, went in and out when missed. That is always a bad sign. To miss like that is the worst kind of miss because you know that nothing is gonna go right for the whole game when everyone misses their good shots like that. So in the long run, we all know that Kobe and the Lakers will start making those shots and that shows how well they can do in this series to be able to put up a good fight in the first game.

The ten point lead that the final score shows could be deceiving as some people would think the Celtics dominated, but the game clearly went back and forth and the Celtics really rode on the energy and inspiration coming from Paul Pierce's injury. Paul Pierce showed why the Celtics is still his team. KG may be getting all the credit for the team's success, but Paul Pierce is the reason why they are where they are at. He is the man on the team who steps it up when needed. His performance today did not surprise me because he's done this his whole career. But as good as he did today, his knee is obviously going to affect him for the series and I know once the energy dies down in him tonight, he's going to be feeling hell. And he knows the Lakers are going to bring it next game so this is just another problem for him. We'll see how great he truly can be come Sunday as he has a chance to prove if he can play through the injury.

Ah but this series is looking good. No team has a clear advantage though Lamar Odom and Gasol need to play more aggressive to counteract Ray Allen's emergence in the Finals.

Well I'm too lazy to type anymore so yeah I'm off.
