  • Takin it old skool

    Thursday, Oct 15, 2009 7:16AM / Members only

I was bored so I decided to watch one of the most popular trilogy's of all time.  You guessed it...The Condor Trilogy.  If you guessed wrong, then....you suck haha jay kay jay kay.  I was never a real fan of the new school trilogies.  I guess cuz I'm not used to all the magic and ppl flying around.  Cuz ya know, back then they didn't have that kinda technology for those effects so the fights were actual fight choreography.  Plus the lead roles were perfect in my eyes.

    Legend of the Condor Heroes

I really thought the cast for the lead roles were perfect.  Felix Wong and Barbara Yung RIP =(.
Guo Jing was kinda lost most of the time which Felix displayed wonderfully.  And Barbara was smart and tricky just like Huang Rong should be.  And put the two together made an adorable couple hehe.  Michael Miu, who played the villainous Yang Kang, was also a good idea.  You almost like hating the guy haha.  I've never read the novel so I can't compare the two, I just know the TVB adaption is good.  The story starts out with two hunters who become closest of friends.  The promised that when their sons are born (Guo Jing and Yang Kang) they would be sworn brothers as well.  During the Invasion of the Jin Empire, the two friends and their wives split up.  One of who died trying to run away and the other disappeared.  So Guo Jing and his mother live in Mongolia while Yang Kang and his mother live in the palace of a prince of the Jin Empire.  That's all Ima say.  Go watch it! or read it!

    Return of the Condor Heroes

I like the story in this one even more than the first.  Yang Guo, the son of the evil Yang Kang played by Andy Lau, is orphaned at a young age.  He is found by is uncle,  Guo Jing, and taken to Quanzhen Sect to learn martial arts.  But because his father was so evil, everybody always bullied him.  Eventually he ran away and found a new teacher, Xiao Longnu played by Idy Chan.  After living together for a long time, romance developed between the two.  But according to society, teacher and student must never fall in love.  So throughout the whole story, Yang Guo and Longnu go through trials and tribulations to test there love.  I won't say anything else about the story, cuz Ion't wanna ruin it for folks who never read or saw the series.

The Heaven Sword and The Dragon Sabre

I felt like this one didn't really have any connections to the previous stories.  The two swords were forged from a sword in the Return story and Guo Jing and Huang Rong's youngest daughter is the founder of the Emei sect here in this story.  But that's about it really, unless I'm forgetting something else (anybody?).  Still, the story is well put together.  The lead roles this time is Tony Leung as the orphaned Zhang Wuji, and Kitty Lai (who by the way is hella cute) plays the mischievous princess, Zhao Min.  Oh and Simon Yam is also in here who plays Zhang Wuji's father, Zhang Cuishan.  Wuji's mother is from the Eagle sect while his father is from the Wudang sect.  The story is makes you feel pity towards Zhang Wuji.  His parents were killed because they refused to give up information about this godfather, Xie Xun (The Golden Lion).  He grows up learning various martial arts and powers.  When Wuji was discovered to know the whereabouts of his godfather, he too was being pursued.  He also helped saved the Ming Cult from the other righteous sects claiming that the Ming Cult was "evil".  During Wuji's adventure, he finds himself in a 5 sided love triangle, something like that.  He loves one girl but she turns to hating him and he falls in love with another girl who was once considered his rival.  Crazy huh?

So if you haven't watched these three old school TVB series, I recommend you do so.  And if you pay attention closely, you'll find Stephen Chow and Francis Ng as extras, specially Francis.  He's in all three playing soldiers, minions, villagers and so forth.  Haha kinda weird looking back and him playing such small parts and now he's up there with Andy Lau and the rest of em.

Well I hope you all enjoyed reading this essay haha.  So now go out there and find these series!!!

  • Summer 09

    Thursday, Oct 1, 2009 8:06AM / Members only

Hmm so where to start, well first of all Ion't really remember much about my summer.  Few relatives came to visit, as well as friends.  But there are some memorable moments.

My trip to Sacramento for KUG (Khmer Unity Games) was a blast, but the games.....bleh =P.  KUG is a tradition in which different Cambodian student organizations from various colleges get together for a day during the summer and basically have fun.  Think of it has a picnic day with a bunch of Cambodians playing park games.  K, Ima shut up and just show you pictures...

Afterwhile, we decided to take a lil break and eat some lunch.

    It was shady ok!

Vuthy showing Sota a magic trick or something iono haha

Disa's forshadowing her tan line Hahhaahahha (inside joke)

Ok so the trip started out fine...until my tired blew up!

I checked for the spare, and that mug was flat too!  Keep in mind, this was my momma's car so I had no idea.  We were about 1hour from out destination.  Luckily, my friend, Disa, had a triple A card. But...the card only had 7 miles on it bwahahaha in my face son!  Again, I had luck on my side, the closest tire shop was only 9 miles away.  So, I for the car towed to the shop and ended up having to pay about $170 for two new tires.

    Car on the tow

So we just sat around for almost an hour waiting for them to put on the tires.

    Here's the homie, Vuthy.

Fina here being weird like usual

Here's Sota taking her myspace picture

And here's Disa taking a dump xD

*sigh* Asians and piece signs haah

So, here we are back on the road

About an hour later or so, we finally made it to my friends' house in Sac.  We was hella tired from the trip.  Just ate some KFC and knocked out right after.

    The aftermath next morning

After we all cleaned up (especially me hehe)  we went to eat some breakfast before heading to the park for KUG.  But all the hometown restaurants was still closed so we just went to Carl's Jr haha whack.

    Fina's a loser haha

So we got to the park and met all the other Khmer students.

I was disappointed in the games this year tho.  They were confusing and not that fun.  I think I participated in only one game.  The rest of the day, I was either resting, going to 7-11 for free slurpees, or kicking birdies haha.

Khon and Vuthy kicking birdie right here

So after a half day of non-fun games, I went back to the house nap while the others went to swim in the pool

Then we returned to the restaurant, that was closed in the morning, to eat dinner.

It's the cleanest Asian restaurant I've ever seen.  Have you ever seen straight up white bean sprouts?  I mean really white?  No brown or yellow stains on it?

Oh yea here's Disa tryna cover up her tan line Hahahahahah

Here's Johnson and his girlfriend Marlene, who was nice enough to let me and my friends stay over for the weekend.

After having the cleanest meal in my life, we all headed out to Old Sac.

For some reason, there was a creepy ass clown inside a candy store which kids go into.

How Sota will look in the future

Well that was all.  We didn't do anything exciting, but the trip alone was hella fun.  Hopefully next year's KUG will be better.

Another memorable moment during the summer is of course the homie's wedding, Bory and Sandy.  They been together for like 30 years or something.  Well not 30, but ya know, somewhere around there.  Just look at the pictures...

Here's Betty upfront.  Daniel and Mary's behind her and Quesna the sleepy looking dude next to Betty haha

    Alan and Kathy

    Here they are...Bory and Sandy

Mak the bestman, also the younger brother of Bory

And that's just one side of the family

Alex gettin a lil too close

    Yea....that was a good night =)

Hmmm so thats about it for the summer.  Oh yea, On The Edge won Best Action Short of the Year at AOF.....

  • Finally

So I finally decided to get an account with AnD.  Well actually, I thought about doing that for awhile now, but I wanted to get my action reel out there first.  So uhh...don't really know what to say.  I hear this is where all the up coming stars or already famous people are.  And I'm here to give them my support.  And to those who are here that aren't actors, or singers and is just to make friends and look around.....thats cool haha lol.  Peace!

Ahhh...that's the difference between California rain and Washington rain. Here in Washington, the rain actually cleans the cars, for the most part. In California? I think the atmosphere gets clensed by the rain and it ends up on the cars. =D I remember being at Disneyland and it started raining. Californians were running for the main gate as if their lives depended on it! It was like being in a Godzilla movie! We just laughed!!! We Washingtonians need a certain amount of rain to stay so young looking! =D Dave Chappel....comic genius! Is he still off the radar? Poor guy....

Thanks, Malay, for the links! That'll give me something to do when the rain starts in again tomorrow (I hate Novembers!). Today it's sunny and I'll have one last chance at mowing the lawn. Too much info? Oh, well. ;-P
