  • My Holiday Trip (Part 2)

    Friday, Nov 13, 2009 7:25AM / Members only

Here is the second part of my holiday trip in India. On the evening of Dashera (Hindu festival) we left for a tour to some hill stations. Our first destination was Shimla. It takes around 6 1/2 hours to reach Shimla from Delhi by bus, around 1/2 hr by plane and around 12 hours by train. If you travel by train it takes time because half of the train journey you have to do on a toy train which runs around the hill .It's nice to travel on a toy train because you can enjoy the scenic beauty while travelling. But we felt 6 hours it's too long to travel on a toy train which runs slowly. We didn't like to travel on a plane because you can't enjoy the scenic beauty while travelling. So,we'd travelled on a tourist bus.The journey was so nice and smooth. The journey was started at around 9PM.Around 11PM the bus was halted in front of a motel in Haryana. There was a nice veg buffet arrangement for us.We also had bought some veg burgers and milk shakes for take away. After 45 minutes we'd started our journey again. The night beauty on the way of Delhi to Shimla was really amazing.I didn't sleep whole night.I was just looking out side from the window.Because I really miss these kind of natural beauty and my country when I am away from my country.

We'd reached to Shimla at 5AM.We had decided to book the hotel after reaching to the spot so that we can select the good hotel and can select the rooms according to our own choice .So,immediately after arriving to Shimla I went to look for a good hotel for us with the help of some porters and a car. After seeing few hotels I had selected a hotel which was very good and in a wonderful position. From the same hotel I made the booking for the other hotel of our next destination.Since we'd booked their car with the driver for our whole trip we got 40% discount on the room tarrif. After freshening up in the hotel room we went for our breakfast. The rate of room and food are so reasonable you can not believe. The time we went it was pick season time.

After having our breakfast we took short nap. Then arround 10AM we left for sight seeing in Shimla. We'd stayed in Shimla for two days.Shimla is mostly famous for fruits like apple, cherries, strawberries and some other dry fruits. The time we went there it was the season of apples.Shimla also is famous for film suitings. In fact all the 4 hill stations we had visited are famous for film suitings.

Ok now you all have a look on the pictures of Shimla  Most of the pictures I have taken from the running car..... so, some of the pictures are blurred and I am sorry for that.

The view from the window of the hotel's restaurant in Shimla.

The Helipad on the top of the mountain.

Khufri the place famous for suitings. It's on the top of the mountain. You have to ride on a ponny to reach here. It's a kind of thrill to ride on a pony especially when they walk on the edge of the mountain

    Apple tree

The night view from the window of my room in Shimla.

A wall poster in my room

The morning view from my room. You can see a very narrow railway track down. That's for the toy trains.

The Biyas river. This river was always with us in whole tour

A Hindu temple near Kulu which comes on the way to Manali from Shimla.

Hand made shawl, pashmina and other woolen items factory in Kulu. The production, selling and everything is run by ladies.

I have bought this pashmina and it's sooooo.... soft that you can pass it through a finger ring.

I have bought so many things from here mostly for the ladies. For mylself I have bought one rast colour sweater. They are so cheap here than the market price. They gave me travel bag as a gift since the amount of items I have bought are more RS.5000.

We didn't stay at Kulu for long. After doing some shopping we  left for Manali.I will blog about Manali and the rest of my tour on the 3rd part of my Holiday Trip.

  • Happy Birthday !!! Internet :)

    Friday, Oct 30, 2009 12:07AM / Members only

Oct 29 in 1969 is generally cited as the date of the invention of the Internet. So we can celebrate 29Th October as birthday of Internet

The concept of an internet free world now seems unimaginable and to a certain degree, frightening. You may be surprised to know that LOLCats and Rick Rolls weren’t on the minds of two California universities when they began tests 40 years ago, successfully sending data between two computers in 1969. These were the humble beginnings of ARPANET…what is now, the internet.

What better time to recap on the last 40 years and provide a brief history of how a technology that has changed our lives, came to be. Before you begin reading however, if you’d like a more visual representation, you may want to sit back and watch this wonderful video that will take you through the decades to today.

    A History

40 Glorious Years of The Internet. Lets have a recap...The Internet was designed in part to provide a communications network that would work even if some of the sites were destroyed by nuclear attack. If the most direct route was not available, routers would direct traffic around the network via alternate routes.

Arpanet was created by the US Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency Darpa. The first connection in 1969 was between The University of California Los Angeles and The Stanford Research Institute. By the end of the year connections had also been added to The University of California Santa Barbara and the University of Utah.

E-mail was adapted for ARPANET by Ray Tomlinson of BBN in 1972. He picked the @ symbol from the available symbols on his teletype to link the username and address.

The ftp protocol, enabling file transfers between Internet sites, was published as an RFC in 1973, and from then on RFC’s were available electronically to anyone who had use of the ftp protocol.

The telnet protocol, enabling logging on to a remote computer, was published as a Request for Comments (RFC) in 1972. RFC’s are a means of sharing developmental work throughout community.

In 1973, the first international network connection links the US with University College London University College London.

The Internet matured in the 70’s as a result of the TCP/IP architecture first proposed by Bob Kahn at BBN and further developed by Kahn and Vint Cerf at Stanford and others throughout the 70’s. It was adopted by the Defense Department in 1980 replacing the earlier Network Control Protocol (NCP) and universally adopted by 1983.

40 Glorious Years of The Internet. Lets have a recap...As the commands for e-mail, FTP, and telnet were standardized, it became a lot easier for non-technical people to learn to use the nets. It was not easy by today’s standards by any means, but it did open up use of the Internet to many more people in universities in particular. Other departments besides the libraries, computer, physics, and engineering departments found ways to make good use of the nets–to communicate with colleagues around the world and to share files and resources.

While the number of sites on the Internet was small, it was fairly easy to keep track of the resources of interest that were available. But as more and more universities and organizations–and their libraries– connected, the Internet became harder and harder to track. There was more and more need for tools to index the resources that were available.

40 Glorious Years of The Internet. Lets have a recap...In 1989 another significant event took place in making the nets easier to use. Tim Berners-Lee and others at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics, more popularly known as CERN, proposed a new protocol for information distribution. This protocol, which became the World Wide Web in 1991, was based on hypertext–a system of embedding links in text to link to other text, which you have been using every time you selected a text link while reading these pages.

The development in 1993 of the graphical browser Mosaic by Marc Andreessen and his team at the National Center For Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) gave the protocol its big boost. Later, Andreessen moved to become the brains behind Netscape Corp., which produced the most successful graphical type of browser and server until Microsoft declared war and developed its MicroSoft Internet Explorer.

Since the Internet was initially funded by the government, it was originally limited to research, education, and government uses.

Delphi was the first national commercial online service to offer Internet access to its subscribers. It opened up an email connection in July 1992 and full Internet service in November 1992. All pretenses of limitations on commercial use disappeared in May 1995 when the National Science Foundation ended its sponsorship of the Internet backbone, and all traffic relied on commercial networks. AOL, Prodigy, and CompuServe came online. Since commercial usage was so widespread by this time and educational institutions had been paying their own way for some time, the loss of NSF funding had no appreciable effect on costs.

40 Glorious Years of The Internet. Lets have a recap...Microsoft’s full scale entry into the browser, server, and Internet Service Provider market completed the major shift over to a commercially based Internet. The release of Windows 98 in June 1998 with the Microsoft browser well integrated into the desktop.

In 1998, Sun co-founder Andy Bechtolsheim writes a check for $100,000 to an entity that doesn’t exist yet: a company called Google Inc. By June 2000, Google becomes the world’s largest search engine.

During this period of enormous growth, businesses entering the Internet arena scrambled to find economic models that work. Free services supported by advertising shifted some of the direct costs away from the consumer–temporarily.

The stock market has had a rocky ride, swooping up and down as the new technology companies, the dot.com’s encountered good news and bad. The decline in advertising income spelled doom for many dot.coms, and a major shakeout and search for better business models took place by the survivors.

As the Internet has become ubiquitous, faster, and increasingly accessible to non-technical communities, social networking and collaborative services have grown rapidly, enabling people to communicate and share interests in many more ways.

This brings us to today where sites like Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In, YouTube, Flickr, Second Life, delicious, blogs, wikis, and many more let people of all ages rapidly share their interests of the moment with others everywhere.

  • My holiday trip (Part 1 ).

    Thursday, Oct 22, 2009 3:20PM / Members only

On my last holiday to India I went to visit some places in north India. After reaching my home town I left for Delhi very next day with my mom and one of my younger sisters. My brother had left for Delhi with his family earlier than me.After a long time I went to Delhi where my eldest sister lives with her family. They all were very happy to see me.Just after reaching to Delhi. We'd  planned to visit different places in Delhi and near by Delhi. We'd booked tourist van for us.That night we could sleep only for 1 hour or little more.Because after a long time we got together and we also went out to see Durga Puja (Hindu Festival) in the evening. We had to leave early in the morning because there were so many places to visit in one day.I won't go for much of detail about the trip.I am just going to post some pictures with some information wherever it requires. If you want to know something in detail please feel free to ask me. I know many of you are waiting to see the pictures of my trip. So,let me start with the pictures of THE TAJ MAHAL,THE NUMBER ONE WONDER   among the 7 WONDERS of the world.

But before posting the pictures let me tell you about the Taj Mahal in short.

The Taj Mahal (pronounced /tɑdʒ mœ231ˈhɑl/; Hindi: ताज महल; Persian/Urdu: تاج محل) is a mausoleum located in Agra, India, built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal.

The Taj Mahal (also "the Taj") is considered the finest example of Mughal architecture, a style that combines elements from Persian, Indian, and Islamic architectural styles.[1][2] In 1983, the Taj Mahal became a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was cited as "the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage."

While the white domed marble mausoleum is its most familiar component, the Taj Mahal is actually an integrated complex of structures. Building began around 1632 and was completed around 1653, and employed thousands of artisans and craftsmen.[3] The construction of the Taj Mahal was entrusted to a board of architects under imperial supervision including Abd ul-Karim Ma'mur Khan, Makramat Khan, and Ustad Ahmad Lahauri.[4][5] Lahauri is generally considered be the principal designer.

If you want to know more about The Taj Mahal then check this link  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taj_Mahal

Entrance to go infront of Taj Mahal. There are row of rooms in both side which were the servant quarters of Mughal Emperors of those days.Till couple of years ago visitors were allowed stay in those rooms.

The gate way of the Taj Mahal.During Mughal Empire guests used to get warm welcome with the sound of bugles and drum beats in the reception gate.

The view of Taj through the reception gate.

Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan

This is the guest  house for the visitors of the Emperor which is built just at the left hand side of the Taj Mahal and there is a mosque at the right hand side of the Taj Mahal. This guest house actually was built to keep the balance of the Taj Mahal on earth.

The main entrance to go inside the Taj Mahal.

These are artificial tombs of Shah Jahan and Mumtaj. The real tombs are just under these tombs.Due to suffocation problem and some other accidents in the past the authority has stopped allowing people to go downstair to see the real tombs since last year.Photography is not allowed inside. But still people were taking pictures and I also took some pictures in the dark.

This is river Yamuna just behind the Taj Mahal. You can see a circule sort of land.Shah Jahan had started to build a black Taj Mahal there. But he was deposed and house arrested by his own son Aurangzeb before he could finish it.

That's the view of Agra fort from Taj Mahal.Unfortunately it was getting so dark and I couldn't able to take good pictures of that.We couldn't go to the Agra Fort because it was clossing time of the fort.Shah Jahan was kept in that area when he was arrested by his son.

The view of the back side of the gate way to the Taj Mahal from the balcony of Taj Mahal.

Some pitcures inside the Nidhi Ban (ban=forest).

This is the famous tree of Vrindavan which is located close to river Yamuna.According to Hindu believe Radha and Krishna used to swing and sing on this tree.By the way lord Krishna used to play flute.

    People pray under this tree.

I wanted to go inside the Sikandra. But my family members didn't want to go inside because we were running out of time to see Taj Mahal. We couldn't able to see the famous Fatehpur Sikri and the Agra Fort.We wanted to see some other famous places in New Delhi and Old Delhi though we have seen them before. But due to very hot  weather my sister was not feeling well so was I and we had to cancel our program. Then after two days we went to mountain sides of Himachal Pradesh in India.Name of the places are Shimla,Kulu,Manali,Palampur and  Dharamshala.I will post some pictures of my that trip in my next blog.Till then enjoy my this blog

  • MY TROPHIES AND MEDALS :)

    Wednesday, Oct 21, 2009 9:06PM / Members only

While cleaning and arranging the cabinets of my house in India I thought to take some pics of my trophies and medals. Some of the trophies and medals are not there in the pics.May be later on I will take the pics of them.

This trophy is my best trophy that I have ever won from a tournament. That singles final match is unforgettable to me.I had won the first set.But lost the second set.In third set my opponent was leading by 10-2.I was so drained out and was feeling muscle cramps.Because within one day we had to play all the matches of singles. Then suddenly I was collapsed in the court because of sever muscle cramp. After some medical attendance when I was trying to play again I felt the cramp and I was moaning like anything. My club members told me to give the walk over. But I said no I won't give walk over.I will play. There were two reasons behind saying no to them.First of all it was matter of our club championship and my winning was very vital for the point tally.Secondly my doubles partner had ankle injury on same day while playing his singles and he was admitted to the hospital. Our club and myself had requested to the organizer to allow me to play doubles (which was held on following day) with any partner even from the lower flight. But neither the organizer nor the other clubs allowed me to play with other partner.I was very upset knowing that I am going to miss my doubles and my club is going to lose 2 sure points from doubles.Everybody was very much sure that we were going to win that doubles. So,I had only my singles match and I didn't want to give it up.My opponent and his club members were pressurizing the empires and the committee members to give up the result in favour of him. Thanks to my friends who are male nurse by profession. They really helped me to stand in the court.Game was restarted and I had decided to take as much time as possible to make the game little slow and to make my opponent impatient. He was so anxious to win that match. He was trying to make me run from corner to corner since he knows that I can not move because cramp. But I had decided to stay in the middle of the court and make him run.I was taking my time to serve by looking at the shuttle, testing the shuttle and some times checking the gutting of my racket.More I was taking time the more my opponent was getting impatient.I was tossing the shuttle right on the 3rd court and then dropping his returns very close to the net. When ever I was getting weak return I was just killing them.Because I knew I can't go for rally with my muscle cramp. He was doing lot of unforced errors as he was very anxious to win the match and I was taking away his match which he was going to win.The match was so exciting.Everyone in the stadium was screaming.I could here my friends and others were screaming out with my name. But I was so cool in the court.Because I knew that is the only way I could take the match from him and I did it.From 2-10 I won the set by 15-12.I was just lay down on my back in the court after winning the shot.My friends all jumped on me.I was sooooooooo....happy and I'd felt like I have won the world cup .Then after the doubles tournament we won the badminton championship of that year.Same year we became the champion in cricket also and that trophy looks like the same.

These are some good looking trophies of mine
