Jet Li Visits College Campuses to Promote Student Mental Health

One of the main goals of Jet Li's charity, The One Foundation is to help Mainland China's university students deal with mental health concerns.  Mental health problems like depression are a major issue amongst Chinese youth in the high pressure life faced in China's changing economy.   According to government surveys, suicide is the leading cause of death for Chinese citizens between the age of 15-34.

In order to help combat this problem,  The One Foundation has set up a fund of 1 million Chinese RMB.  580,000 of which has already been spent to set up help centers at 58 universities throughout the country.

On Saturday Jet Li spoke at three universities in Beijing to help promote the program.  Included in the tour were two of the nation's top schools --  Tsinghua and Peking Universities,  where students face the most pressure.

I may sound mean and un greatful on this but I feel it wasn't a good move. I study health & lifestyle problems constantly and come up with solutions www.islandspirit.ca (in construction) the concerning thought on the One Foundation's is that in North America, intitutions/orgs are being created everywhere to treat dis-eases which often act like drug rehibilitation centers for addicts. People are put on drugs rather than identifying root causes ie; stress exposure, diet, environmental pollution. Many things can upset the chemistry within you. Depression is often an addiction and there are triggers like music, food & psychological triggers. We should be looking at all the things inside and outside exposure that influences us and create a new lifestyle system for school, work, home and other activities that increase intelligence promote positive/happy emotions, wisdom etc. There are a few things to take in consideration, color and sound for instance is well documented to change our moods. So how about changing the color or your living, working and learning space? The list of improvements is on going. Building new centers for just one benifit is not efficient and it just takes away nature that usually brings us to happiness & balance. Taking a step to help is good Jet although I wish it were an integration of positive influence in all core activities than hidden away seperated in some building/center. The other thing is that an integration in scociety would be a permanent learned conditioning & on going support system rather than a quick fix at a depression center. People also like privacy too. Most would rather not have people judge them with a problem as they walk into a center so having one may furthur suppress people with depression from entering it or asking for help.
