I'll be in NYC this weekend for the opening festivities of the 7th New York Asian Film Festival. This year's fest is the largest yet, with 43 films screening between June 20 and July 6 at the IFC Center and the Japan Society. I actually got to lend a hand this year, designing some of the print print pieces to promote the fest. I'll try to post updates and reviews of the films I see. Who knows, maybe I'll even run into some AnDers while I'm there? More to come...

Give Butter a head's up you are coming.  She is in touch with a lot of the NY AnD contingent and maybe a group of you could attend a screening.

I was just in New York last week.  The city was great, as usual.  Instead of Asian film, it was Asian art that I was immersed in.  If you have time, check out the Chinese Painting show at the Met.  This was the first time I got to see so many antique painted scrolls up close and in detail.  Calligraphy isn't short-changed, either.  They have some stunning examples.  The Met has such a strong collection of Asian art.  They are reopening the Japanese galleries any day now.  Check the Met website for the exact date.

I also have a recommendation for a marvelous Afghani restaurant--Bamiyan at the corner of Third Ave. and 26th St.  The food was incredible and the prices weren't so high (at least by NY standards).  I had my birthday dinner there and can't wait to go back next time we visit NY.

I hope nobody pays to see Dororo on the big screen. haha. The story has heart but the effects ruined it for me.

Shadows in the Palace is riveting. The black, faceless, nameless thing, however, ruined it.

    Mad Detective. Good stuff.
