  • The only cell-phone

    Saturday, Nov 29, 2008 1:58AM / Members only

Since i saw Kevu's i phone painted with his likeness by Reni Wong, I would really like to have an original one.   Finally I came aross the drawing demo on mobile devices in the department store.

Excellent Yuzen(友禅)paintings with style of cool!!

Yuho Hayashi(林 裕峰) had been painted Japanese traditional patterns called Yuzen(友禅)on Kimono as a craft man in Kyoto, and developed gilded technique paintings on PC, phone, ipod, USB flash drive, etc.

hmmm..I can not decide which pattern I should choose

  • stroll around the Shitamachi streets

    Tuesday, Nov 25, 2008 1:30AM / Members only

Let's continue where I left off.
After interviewed Dr. Nakajima, I was walking around 下町(shitamachi)"  near the university hospital.
Nezu(根津),Yanaka(谷中),千駄木(sendagi) are the  old towns called "下町(shitamachi)" located in east part of Tokyo as Kanda(神田),Nihonbashi(日本橋),Asakusa(浅草) and etc. The term "下町(shitamachi) "came from low cities next to the Sumida River and the Tokyo bay, compared with "山手(yamanote)" or uptown, longtime residential area, located on the hills of the Musashino. Because of historic sites, old-world feeling and human warmth, Shitamachi area definitely attracts tourists.

The small shops stand in residential streets.

    clothing store in old-style house

picture postcards of old streets by hand

the girls strolling around with the antique kimono.

    Karinto(かりんとう),the traditional sweet snack
    Its Yuming's(Yumi Matsutoya/松任谷由實) favorite!

    accesaries of tortoise shell

Then walked through the mall to get to the station

queue for buying the Taiyaki (鯛焼き), sea-bream shaped cake.
The Japanese word for sea bream, "tai" associates with the word "mede-tai" or "felicity".so the broiled whole tai is essential dish on festive occasions.

    more sweets!!

    Yakitori(焼き鳥)

    sale on chinaware

As I didnt have much time, ouldnt buy any food and left there with strong reluctance.

On that night i was craving for a Taiyaki and was able to get one at a neighboring supermarket.   I know...I should reduce craving for sweets

  • Laughter Therapist(笑い療法士)

    Sunday, Nov 23, 2008 2:14AM / Members only

How many times did you laugh today?  Laughter makes you happy, makes you healthy!!!

The other day, I met Dr.Hideo Nakajima (中島英雄),a brain surgeon and a professional comic storyteller(rakugoka). He had the interview with a big grin on his face and knew how to let me have fun and laugh. It was a very pleasant meeting with him.

Hiss Rakugoka's name Zenji Katsura(桂 前治) is on the backside of his doctor’s business card. This typeface is especially used for Rakugoka's name.

Once a month, he gives storytellers' performance in his hospital for 20 years. Collecting hospital-based patients' study immediately after the performance, he released medical research one after another. The level of blood sugar of the patients was decreased. Caused by activation in the brain, alpha wave and beta wave were measured at the same time. Improves immunity and gives unusual healing properties.

According to him, the mechanism of laughter is as follows. When primitive people took poisonous food, they spitted it out by putting up the corners of  mouth. It means laughter was an instinctive action to prevent risks. At the same time such expression brought the senses of safe and relief. Laughter is the human gift for survival. When you are stressed out, the secretion as so-called toxin appears in your brain. It seems to be reduced only by laughing and crying.

It's a pin of a qualified Laughter Therapist. In one-year training session organized by Dr.Nakajima and others, participants should learn how to make humorous jokes at different cases in addition to medical and sychological studies. The participants include doctors, nurses, office workers, teachers, patients' family members. More than 200 therapists are active in the country. They say that Japanese rarely someone with humor. I should learn more.haha

"Humor ist, wenn man trotzdem lacht.(ユーモアとは、にも関わらず、笑うこと)" The matters that trouble people enormously differ from one person to another.Get on with our lives together.

    One more pic.

The prominent landmark "The Myth of Tomorrow” by Taro Okamoto (1911–1996) appeared in Shibuya Station,Tokyo. was missing until 2003 in Mexico and decorated here after restoration. Remember. if you have a chance to come toTokyo, we should meet in front of the mural, at the far right or at the far left.

  • Tea for you

    Saturday, Nov 15, 2008 3:27AM / Members only

Fatiguing on the body and mentally, I have insatiable craving for sweets. My late-night sweet is "Higashi(干菓子)”, traditional dry confectioneries, from Kyoto. Those are made with Wasanbon(和三盆), Japanese premium fine-grained sugar by traditional method. have sophisticated taste, and melt in your mouth immediately. obviously, much fewer calories than chocolate.

The contents in the box vary seasonally. In Autumn, ear of rice, Matsutake mashroom, maple leaf, ginkgo biloba are put in. Higashi are often served at Japanese tea ceremonies. They used to wrap it in Japenese paper and to carry it out.

Higashi, green tea and AnD hat
Well, what will you use the empty box for?

I'm sorry to hear about his demise too ... my condolences and sympathy to his family as well ... really hate all the senseless killings happening nowadays ... even a death penalty cannot pardon all that they have done
