Artist Beryl Cook, known for her colourful and comic paintings of larger-than-life ladies, has died at the age of 81. I can remember my mother and my aunty buying each Beryl Cook calenders in the early 80s. Beryl Cook had no training and didn't start painting until she was in her 40s. Her work was largely ignored by the art establishment but was loved by the general public. Beryl's inspiration was the people in the pubs of the city she lived (Plymouth). For those of you unfamilar with her cheeky style of art - here is some of her work.
