Kiwi in Korea update 1

Actually there are many Kiwi's in Korea but I am the only one in my town, infact K and I are the only westerners living here.  I may buy a t-shirt that says, "No, I'm not American".

Things are settling down and K and I are freaking out less.  It helps we now have internet and phone.  It also helps I now have time to prepare for my lessons properly.  I still get a little nervous every morning though.

Good news on the laptop front, Casskickass was right, the battery had completely drained.  My universal adaptor arrived yesterday so we could finally plug it in.  We have been watching Outrageous Fortune, a popular kiwi drama (I have 3 seasons on disc). Below is the season 3 promo - be warned though there is swearing and sex (oh my).

I had a bank account opened on Wednesday so I can now be paid my settlement allowance and pay back the teachers who have lent me money (I find it  embarrassing having to borrow money from people I hardly know - it's bad enough borrowing from good friends, I don't like that much either).

Well its Friday - yay, hope you all have a great weekend, my girl and I will stay put, what are your plans?

Dead battery? I knew that. haha. A relief, wasn't it? Yeh, make sure people don't think you're an American. Americans are such snobs and xenophobes. heehee.

lol, it's so much more shocking and by the looks of things superior to the timid UK rip-off!. Borrowing money couldn't of been helped, but yeah I know how that is, I won't even borrow of my siblings. Good to see you have the laptop up and running. That must be a relief. And that you are feeling a little less nervous and are able to plan lessons. Yeah it's surprising how many times NZ, Aust and the UK are mistaken for Americans, I guess it can be hard to distinguish our accents unless you are from one of the four countries.

Glad to hear you and Kahurangi are getting more settled now. Working internet and phone can make all the difference eh. Ah yes Korean food can be quite spicy but it's so good. Have you tried kimchi yet? or any stews? Ooh this show looks quite racy :p I'm sure it would never pass American censorship guidelines. I'm the same way about borrowing money. It feels like such an imposition. You're quite fortunate to find such kind new friends though :) No idea what's up for the weekend as it's supposed to rain here. Have a good one!

Phew! My laptop has become a bloody buggery bollocking bastard now. It's been shutting down (without warning) when it gets overheated. Guess it's telling me to stop using it so much. LOL.

So what's wrong with being American??? lol Ok, how do watch that show with your teenaged daughter???? Yikes. That looks like all sex and T&A and pecker jokes. Seriously, I pity parents these days. There are some hugely popular Korean "soap operas". I've not seen any but read about them. There's a great movie (in English "Untold Scandal", mamma mia, some sex scenes in that one too) but the star Bae Yong-jun starred in some show called "Winter Sonata" which apparently was huge there and in Japan (maybe in China). That might be a good way to pick up some Korean. Language, that is.

Hey Jaine! Good for you for getting some income. That had to be hard. Wow, that's different from what I expected for gender behavior in Korea as well. That TV teaser was really over the top. Wow. I bet it's good for you to see anything from back home : ) Hugs, Elena
