home weirdness

It's great to be home but it feels a little weird, of course it's cold and wet and its been really stormy so lots of trees have come down.  The town feels a little depressed but I have had a great time catching up with friends and indulging in food I missed.

Fish'n'chips on the beach (Mission Bay) with my mum.  I really missed F&C on the beach.

It was really REALLY good seeing K again.  We went to the movies yesterday and saw Tropic Thunder and the trailer for Forbidden Kingdom came on - I was like wtf, I bought the dvd in Korea (and not a pirate version either), I thought the days had past when Nelson had to wait months for movies that everybody else saw, it was like that here in the 80s.

Yay, having lunch with K at one of our favourite cafes... I feel like I tourist, I'm carrying so much guff.

On a random note, I kept stopping at pedestrian crossings and K said "It's okay mum, cars stop for you - remember".  Doh.  What habits have you picked up that are considered odd when you return home from living abroad?

hehee... home sweet home, huh? hehee... =D habits? hmm... when I was in HK, I noticed that people don't greet each other or hold doors open for the person behind... so when I greeted people in HK, they seem to give me a weird look... then when I came home, I stopped the habit of leaving the door open for the person behind me... =X but I stopped that... hahaa....

Nah, we still get movies months after Asia does. Totally sucks, but seeing as I'm moving to Asia next year, I don't care anymore! I'll just buy the DVD over here and send them home and they'd still get it before the theatres!

I don't remember habits which I couldn't stop doing when I got home, but I remember lots of things that I couldn't do or couldn't get when I got back home which was really frustrating.

I've never lived abroad for any extended amount of time so no good or bad habits were brought back. ;P Some things I might've left behind/overseas would include pounds (weight).

Cheers to you being home again. It's definitely about the people and other comforts of home. I'm sure the lack of resources is a little daunting but I'm sure you'll be able to rise to the challenge Jaine. And you've got moral support there. I've never away from home long enough to pick anything up.

lol, one of the best things for me about being in Hog Kong was that Pirates of The Caribbean 3 came out before the UK saw it, so I evilly told my brother all about it, and I thought Britian was behind in film release, NZ has it bad! Hope the depressive feel of the town is just due to weather, wait till the sun comes out and you get back to swimming in the open water and it will feel a world of difference.

Great photo of you & your Mom! So happy for you & K being reunited too, I know you missed each other. I think I'd miss being able to look out over moving water the most if I was away so I can see why you missed the beach! I was never away for an extended period, 3 weeks was the most. The thing I needed to adjust was the volume of my voice--people talk louder around here than they do in lots of places, apparently lol. This realization hit home when I was in a restaurant in Quebec & my friends & I noticed we had become the center of attention cuz we were laughing & chatting at a decibel level above the norm. People were staring at us & we immediately toned it way down. It wasn't an adjustment to turn the volume back up when I got home tho. If you don't speak up & talk fast in this area ya don't get heard hahah

Staring at hugely obese people. I remind myself not to do it when I get to the USA. Every year, they seem to be getting bigger. Oh, and randomly smacking cell phones out of people's hands on the street. I just do that for laughs.
