Happy Birthday AlivenotDead

Hope the birthday bash goes well. Will be thinking of you all!   Tried to make a video for youtube on my camera but couldn't convert it or upload it as most of the programmes on this computer are in Korean.  Never mind it wasn't very good anyway.

Some of you asked for photos so here goes:

to start with my old home (after we moved out), my dad's fat cows (they are "Belted Galloways" a heritage breed) and Tahunanui (my beach)

Here is the view from our motel window in Jangyu, and our first Korean meal - Kimbob (I don't know how it is spelt, please feel free to correct me).

I do love the hilly (mountainous) landscape here.  It is very beautiful.  I find it hard to drink anything labelled sweat!

  I

This monday is a public holiday here for Budda's Birthday - these colourful lanterns were strung all down the streets of Chang Won, they looked very festive and pretty.

The Korean English teachers and I go out to lunch on the day I arrive.  These ladies are wonderful, they have been extremely helpful and kind.

Kahurangi sits in my bedroom window, no curtains or blinds, just an extra set of frosted windows to shut for privacy.  I can also touch the ceiling but standing on tip toes, in my last place I couldn't touch the ceiling standing on a chair (it was an old house with a stupidly high stud).

Views from my balcony, setting sun, school and mountain out of rear window.  This mountain is great It means I can get my bearings in this town easily.

The English room is the bottom story of the building behind the pine trees, my apartment building (I'm on the 5th floor and there is no elevator - which will be good for my fitness) is hidden by the trees and buildings on the right.

I appreciate all your kind comments and good advice from my last blog.   Kahurangi has agreed to give it ago for three months and she is going to try the local school.  Hopefully in three months we will feel much better about things.  Currently I can only focus one week at a time or I tend to start freaking out again.

Righto, now I'm online I'm off to catch up on your blogs

Hey hope you guys are coping alright. Do they have schools for English speakers? Wow, imagine moving away to a totally different language speaking country while still in school. Especially moving from English, instead of to it.

Wow! This is so exciting. As always, Korean life looks so clean and organized. Is your daughter going to a local school to learn Korean?

Good to hear things are starting to settle for you.. change (especially a BIG One) is always difficult in the beginning. About the Pocari.. if you feel you need to, try it at least once.. its a japanese import (available here too).. brothers like it... tinlunlau (gary) likes it.. they say it has a citrus taste.. personally don't care for it myself. Hope Kahurangi gets along well.. i've not been out of country for as long as you will, but I can honestly say that I had a fabulous time when my family took a Christmas holiday to Mexico !! :D

Seeing these images reminds me of the scenes from all those Korean movies I've watched. Do you know what I mean about the smells? People smell different. The air/soil smells diff. Food, of course.

I would be so lost if I didn't have mountains to guide me, too! Hang in there, you guys! You've got us, all of AnD, for moral support! =) **hugs for Kahurangi**

I'm pleased Kahurangi is going to give it a go too. It's not easy adjusting to a new culture and lifestyle but it certainly looks a nice place to try. The teachers look very friendly and welcoming.

Nice photos Jaine. I hope things are getting better as you and Kahurangi are getting settled and more used to your new surroundings. The town you're in looks quite peaceful and the views are pretty amazing. How are you liking the food so far? They like their garlic in Korea :)

The sweat part of the name of this drink has always cracked me up. Takeshi kKneshiro used to endorse this stuff.
