hope you all had a good weekend and a jolly good Mid Autumn Mooncake Festival.

My mum came down and we put an offer on a house together...  woohoo, it has been accepted but it is not yet uncondtional.   It is an old Victorian house with lot of rotten bits but it has a lovely feel and will scrub up nicely.

I still want to travel etc but it feels nice to have base to always come back to and I will no longer be paying someone elses mortgage with my rent.  Nobody reallys wants to dance the mortgage dance but paying rent is money down the loo.    The only issues will be working through renovation differences with my mum   .   Here are some piccies:

    hi all

I was offline for the weekend so I have a little catching up, hopefully I will get to your blogs soon!!

I stayed at the backpackers Friday and Saturday night and on Saturday night was going back to the house I was saying in and tripped down some brick steps, I remember thinking 'oh shit' (actually I said this out loud as someone heard me) and thinking that I didn't want to hurt my head or back and even though it has been 18 months since I have done kung fu with any regularity (don't ask) the foward break popped into my head so I managed to land on the brick pathway unscathed (except for my shins which landed on the steps and are badly bruised and scratched - I look like a 13 yo who has cut her legs shaving them -  maybe one has to go to boarding school to appreciate what a mess some girls make of this) anyhu the owner heard and administered first aid and red wine - red wine always ALWAYS works.   I am back at my friend K's though as it has been really enjoyable staying with her.

I got offered that job as a hut warden at Nelson Lakes and had to turn it down so I can be a mum to K, given that is why I returned from Korea.  Never mind they are keen for me to apply next year!!

I feel like a bloke showing off his scars, but I do think my knee bruise is impressive - I can see a face in it, can you? (it is a few days old so yellowing now - thank christ  )

  • Kiwi in Hong Kong

    Friday, Aug 22, 2008 6:59AM / Standard Entry

well on Tuesday I left my apartment and went into Busan, I finally braved the bath house and went to Hirsimchung in Busan which is hugh (apparently, I have no frame of reference).  I must say it was great.  I wondered round a bit and took the couch at a full backpackers.  I must recommend Blue Backpackers for visiters to Pusan.

Wednesday, early I left and came home via HK where I only had a few hours.  I had a lovely lunch with Boon, Mark and Ivy - thanks guys for coming!!!

Then we went to the AnD office and I meet the rest of the crew.  YAY!!   It's easy to see why AnD is such a great website when you meet those who run it,!!!  the AnD crew

Zing snuggles up with a sleeping Admin bear.

I came across this sign in Busan and I was like wtf?  hehe, apparently small faces are fashionable in Korea (my girl students told me I had a small face, at first I was like... "er  thanks, I think" I didn't know if that was a good thing or not.  I have no idea what this is advertising.

well I'm job hunting at the mo, I have put an application to the city council as a policy analyst which would be great to get.  I have also been shortlisted as a hut warden at Lake Angelus for the summer which would also be great - I love Lake Angelus (Nelson Lakes National Park)

hut is in the distance  this one is taken from beside the hut.

have a good weekend everyone, I get to see K tomorrow -YAY!!

  • Kiwi in Korea 17 - I hate goodbyes

    Sunday, Aug 17, 2008 6:47AM / Standard Entry

well, as you know I have resigned but what I haven't told you is that the High School have allowed me to predate my resignation letter so I can return to NZ sooner.  They understand I am returning for parental reasons.   So I leave on Wednesday, will be in NZ by Thursday and hopefully Nelson by Friday or Saturday.  Eeek it's all happening so fast.

My internet has been disconnected so I have to sneak into the English Room to use it so please forgive me if I'm slow at reading blogs, commenting and replying to msgs.  Also youtube is barred from the school network and there is no sound in this pc.

I came into school yesterday (Saturday) to say goodbye to my students and some of my teachers (and to pay final bills - yikes).  I really don't like goodbyes, sometimes it's easier to just leave.  I am an emotional person and I found yesterday very hard.  I nearly made it through all my classes without tearing up.  I had to break for a bit before going into the last one as I nearly lost it. gah, I'm such a sap.  I go back tomorrow (Monday) because the Principal is taking me (and my co-teacher) out to lunch.  This is an honour as he did not do it with the other native english speaking teachers.

On a good note - WOOT!!! NZ finally is on the medal table, I knew it would be for rowing - thank you to the Evers-Swindell sisters.  I had told my students that our strengths were rowing and athletics (and sailing and equestrian).  So I'm relieved that we have won in some of those fields.

Anyhuu I'm off to Bugok this morning, apparently it' has the hottest hot springs in South Korea and as it is only 15kms down the road I thought I should go before heading home.  I hope you are all enjoying the weekend!

UPDATE: went to Bugok and bought togs, lol but didn't do the hot springs thing, it's too muggy and many of my students work at Bugok Hawaii which kinda puts me off a little (and I'm not used to the nekkid in front of lots of people thing either) so I came home.  Also 78' is just too hot, geez I set the hot water at home to 65' (as recommended by Plunket (a child welfare org).
