  • missed you all

    Friday, Oct 23, 2009 1:18PM / Standard Entry

    Hi folks

sorry I have been awol for so long, being a AnDholic was interfering with my job searching and I thought I would not come on until I had found full time work, well I still haven't found full time work but I am working part time in a bookshop - which I totally love

I hope everyone has been well, I have missed you all very much!  I don't have much other news - my daughter is learning the accordian, I am learning the bodhran (Irish drum) and penny whistle.  I tell ya, it's the height of cool in my house.  I have acquired another teen who now lives here (as you do) and work on my property is going very very slowly (it's a finance thing).  All is good though and I hope you are all well too.

At the moment it is the Nelson Arts Festival so here is a couple of photos of the Mask parade that opens it (done mainly by local schools).

  • yodelling lesbian twins - Topp comedy act

    Wednesday, Apr 29, 2009 12:18PM / Standard Entry

The Topp Twins are a New Zealand much loved musical - comedy duo, they have been round for a long time, well before Flight of the Conchords.   Jools and Lynda Topp have been performing for NZ audiences for 30 years, both on the road and on the telly.   Now they have put out a film/documentary Topp Twins; Untouchable Girls and I'm off to see it tonight.  I'm really excited.

This from a recent review: (the brackets are my explanations)

Paul Horan, a well respected comedy writer, says in the documentary that “On paper, they (the Topp Twins) shouldn’t work. On paper, they should be commercial death. But they totally deliver to the audience. Time and time again”. And deliver they do. Through interviews with both prominent New Zealanders such as John Clarke (classic NZ comedian now based in Australia) and the colourful characters conceived by the Topp Twins, the documentary explores the many displays of political anarchism that the Topp Twins have been involved with over the past few decades. From Bastion Point (Indigenous land rights) to Nuclear Free New Zealand and the Springbok tour (apartheid vs rugby) of 1981 to the Homosexual Law Reforms of the late 80s, the Topp Twins have been an integral part of bringing all these issues into the New Zealand publics’ consciousness.  You would expect that a documentary that covers so many controversial periods in New Zealand’s recent history would be quite arduous to watch, but nothing could be further from the truth.

  • tears to my eyes - Susan Boyle

    Tuesday, Apr 14, 2009 9:26AM / Standard Entry

Anyone remember Roger Fan blogging about Paul Potts on Britain's Got Talent, well although it brought a smile to my face it did not bring tears to my eyes.  This however....

I love how she remains positive in the face of the audience's obvious cycnism and then WOW!

it appears all of the clips of youtube of this have had embedding disabled by request, I can recommend following the link though

hey folks, hope you all had a great Easter, I did

got into the garden, it is now Autumn and I want to get a few things planted (mainly ground covers) while the earth is still warm (I have yet to purchase them, I'm just clearing space).   Also a retaining wall over my path is close to collasping so I have to clear the shrubs and dig it out and re-do it.  Gah to the useless sod who put it in in the first place.

I had some visitors doing the garden though such a big belly, do you think she has just mated

I also had some random woman knocking on my door at 9 in the morning wanting to know if I would sell my house. I said no,  she was interested in subdividing it.  Gah there is enough infill housing in my valley.   I think she thought that I also owned the empty section next door - only in my dreams.

I like my little villa and wouldn't sell it!

What is it that sends people into supermarket frenzies the day before a public holiday that requires all but basic service providers to be closed (In NZ, legislation requires this on Xmas day, Easter Friday, Easter Sunday and ANZAC morning).  I went to the supermarket on Thursday to do my weekly shop and holy moly, it was insane.  Why do people panic so, it's hardly like anybody is going to starve on one day and convience stores, service stations etc are open.  sheesh
