Artist Beryl Cook, known for her colourful and comic paintings of larger-than-life ladies, has died at the age of 81.  I can remember my mother and my aunty buying each Beryl Cook calenders in the early 80s.   Beryl Cook had no training and didn't start painting until she was in her 40s.  Her work was largely ignored by the art establishment but was loved by the general public.  Beryl's inspiration was the people in the pubs of the city she lived (Plymouth).  For those of you unfamilar with her cheeky style of art - here is some of her work.

Thanks for sharing...I haven't seen her work before.  What a sense of humor she had!  She will be missed because we all need that wacky kind of humor to see us through these days.

I'm not familiar with her work but I like the cheekiness and playful humor of it.  May she rest in peace.

I recognise her work  which am sure i've seen on postcards and posters she has a cheeky style which isn't offensive but tongue in cheek.
Is the last picture a self portrait ?( with the pint and cigarette).

This is the type of art I can really appreciate. Some of the stuff shown on AnD is a little way out there. Humor is always good. ;D
