My LIfe Story
Saturday, Jun 28, 2008 11:53PM / Members only
I am a very easy going OLD Fart who tries to enjoy life to the fullest. I was born in 1951 and my life pretty much stays in the 60's and 50's as far as Music is concerned. I like 70's and 80's music and a little bit of 90's like Madonna and Britney Spears but not too much else. I began collecting 45's, albums, tapes etc. around 1964 as the Beatles really sparked my Love for Music. By around 1971 or so I had one of the biggest record collections in upstate New York of over 60,000. The one year I was in College I worked part time on the College Radio station WCVM which, stood for the College Voice of Morrisville in upstate New York. I was also the Music program director for my last 2 semesters there as I was voted in by my contemporaries as having the greatest love for Music of anyone in college.
I joined the U.S. Army because all my friends in College with the same birth month and year as me were all getting drafted and I didn't want to be drafted into a field I might not like. I signed up for the Administration field, went to training at Fort Dix NJ and finished in the top 3 of my class. The top 4 of us were assigned to Okinawa and the other 26 were all shipped off to Vietnam, boy was I lucky. I loved my time stationed there on what most soldiers called "The Rock" but not me and I learned a little Japanese. I was reassigned to Fort Hood, Texas but 6 months later I was lucky enough to be sent back to Okinawa to the same unit I was in before.
When this tour was over I was sent to Fort Jackson in Columbia S.C. where I met my future to be wife Dorothy. I put in a request to go back to Okinawa again and 6 months later I was shipped out. This time Okinawa had been given back to the Japanese and the Marines had taken over all the army bases so I was sent to mainland Japan this time which I loved even more then Okinawa. I flew back to the states married Dot and she came over to Japan with me this time but she came by Boat on a luxury liner approved by the Army because she has acrophobia and cannot fly. After our time in Japan was up we went to Fort McPherson Georgia in Atlanta and then to Fort Stewart Georgia. We next went to Hawaii for 3 years where I ended my 13 and ½ years of Military service. They would no longer let me re-enlist because of a small hearing loss and a condition where I couldn’t take the heat for very long before I would pass out. My wife’s parents lived in Jacksonville, Florida and we had visited them several times over the years and told my wife when my service is over I want to move to Jacksonville because its’ a beautiful place and has very nice people. On 1 June 1984 we arrived in Jacksonville, Florida and lived with my wife’s folks for almost a year and we had our 1st place. We rented for a few years then moved to a bigger place because our 2 boys were getting bigger and needed more space so we rented again for a few years. In 1996 we finally bought our very 1st house and have lived in this beautiful place ever since. I have worked for the same company in town for almost 21 years now and hope to retire after being there for at least 40 years.
While I was in Japan the 2 greatest things I was able to do there was go snorkeling and I caught an octopus with a spear gun. The other was I climbed Mount Fuji with my oldest son and we were able to see the sun rise while at the very top. I have had several surgeries over the last few years on my stomach and I’ve had part of my colon removed yet I still experience excruciating pain from time to time and I’m on some very strong pain medication but it doesn’t always help. The doctors have no clue what is wrong with my stomach as I continue to take tests, x-rays and every test imaginable. On the days I have little or no pain I am a very happy and easy go guy and get along with everyone but I stay pretty much to myself at work and at home. I spend hours and hours on my computer surfing, reading and as an Editor for TV shows on one of the 2 best and biggest TV sites on the Internet called TVRAGE.com. My Internet user name at 95% of the sites I sign up at or use is JAGUARDOG and before you ask it is a combination of my 2 favorite football teams. For college its’ the Georgia Bulldogs and for the pros its’ the Jacksonville Jaguars. I love the N.Y. Yankees as well but could figure out how to add them into my username so there you have it. I forgot to Mention I am a big TV and Movie buff and love Reality TV especially Survivor, Big Brother, Amazing Race, Beauty and The Geek, American Idol and so many more. I go to the Movies at least once a week and I like almost every genre there is.
The part I mentioned at the very beginning about living in the 50’s and 60’s concerns my Music tastes. When I am not watching TV because there is nothing New on I want to see I am listing to my XM Satellite Radio through my DirectTV and love the 50’s channel on 802 and the 60’s channel on 803. That’s about all there is for now with the exception of I had to sell almost all of my collection of records because of the space it was taking up and we needed the money.
If you have any questions about me or just want to communicate via email you can reach me at JAGUARDOG69@HOTMAIL.COM I hope you have a Wonderful Life and God Bless, Ron.
