Three Hong Kong indie bands with different styles will rock the fringe club, they are

    F.B.I.

One Gwailo and three Hong Kong guys come together to form F.B.I., a band which takes its audience on a musical journey of diverse sounds and on-stage intensity. It's hard to describe F.B.I.'s style of music because they don't conform to just one style. I guess you will just have to find out for youself. Their first EP Fire Bird International will be on sale on 29th Oct 2008 at CDwarehouse, HK Record and different cd stores.

    The Lovesong

One of Hong Kong's most talked about bands, The Lovesong has stirred waves in the local music with their intense and energetic live performances, and opening for bands such as Nine Inch Nails at the AsiaWorld-Expo. The four-piece draw inspiration from the American punk/hardcore roots of their teenage years to create a beautiful collision of what has always been with what is completely unexpected.

    Karat

After half year of restructuring, Karat is coming back! While Cherry and Terry are still on vocal and guitar, Garlie and Wing joined us as the new bassist and drummer for half a year. The brand new Karat will even more energetic, creative and dynamic, yet, as funk as before! We will try to funk you up as hard as we can! Hope you will enjoy our upcoming groovy and funky shows!

  • FBI EP Release Party revisited

    Thursday, Oct 30, 2008 4:45PM / Standard Entry

    FBI salute the fans

    FBI EP Release Party revisited

On the 24th of October the Fringe Club came alive with the sounds of music. Ghouls ‘n’ Ghosts were creeping. Man Love! was in the air and we started to think that maybe one day we can all really Quit our day jobs. (just not yet!)

    The David Bowie Knives

We were lucky that some of the best local indie bands in HK came to support us. They helped to make this a memorable occassion.

    Audiotraffic

The David Bowie Knives started the night off with a bang. Their sexy tunes penetrated eardrums while the FBI guys signed CDs. Unfortunately, we couldn’t come and enjoy their set as we were in demand. But, I was running back and forth to make sure everything was okay. Next thing I know, the DBKs were topless and the crowd were cheering emphatically. I really like the way these guys sound and it was evident that they were a crowd favourite aswell. We really appreciate the DBKs supporting us on this momentous occasion.

The David Bowie Knives bearing all

    Audiotraffic's drummer loves AC/DC!!!

    Signing CDs

    So many CDs to sign

When the DBKs finished their set it was time for our Special Guests to get onto the stage. People asked me, “How did you get Audiotraffic to support you?” I would respond with a shrug and say, “I asked them.” It was kind of obvious to me. LOL. I guess we have been lucky to have had the chance to meet the guys from Audiotraffic before. Especially since Don and Adrian were the judges of the LKF Beer Festival that we were a part of. The guys have been really supportive of us and they jumped at the chance to have a show together. Thanks again for your support!

    Now, that's rock!

Then it was our time to shine. There were over 100people at the Fringe Club there to see us and we weren’t going to disappoint. You may know that I have been having some problems with my asthma lately and I was really worried about my performance, up until I got onto the stage. I had lost my voice the week before and was worried that it wasn’t going to return for the big show. It hadn’t recovered to 100% so I made sure I topped myself up with some alcohol before the show so I could trick myself that I was better. I know I could do better. At least the audience could go back home and listen to how I really sound when I am at my best.

    Archvictor likes to rock!

    Jerald's got the moves!

    Give me the beat!

    M ho wan nghor bun!

Despite my little set back we had a really good performance. The other FBI guys were great and you could tell the audience were enjoying themselves. We even had a moshpit for ‘The Masquerade’.

    MOSHPIT!

We played two sets. The first set took around 30mins. We played the first six songs off the EP and two covers. Then we went away and had a break, a drink and a piss break. When we came back we played some of the B sides and some more covers. We even threw in a cover of ‘Smooth Criminal’. We have been practicing this song religiously and the hard work paid off. Plus, the rap songs at the end gave the night abit more flavour and really rounded off the evening.

    Respect! Respect!

    Respect tou PK!!!

Thanks to everyone who made it to the party. Thanks to all of those people involved with the CD. Thanks to the DBKs and Audiotraffic. Thanks so much to The Fringe Club for letting us use their venue for this great event.

Not in a gay way baby!

Yeah, but can you do this?

    Gup C... lol

    dum dum dum....

    ROCK!!!

The easy part is now over. We have already got rid of more than 100 CDs, which is great. But, as I said, that was the easy part. The hardest part is now about to begin. The CDs are officially on sale at CD warehouse. I wonder if any have been sold yet?

(thanks Arvid, Kitty and Sabrina for their photos!!!)

Yes! We did it! We rocked the Fringe!

    Thanks from

    F.B.I.

  • What has been, and what is yet to come...

    Tuesday, Oct 21, 2008 3:29PM / Standard Entry

I was limp for Underground 69. A few days leading up to the show I started to develop a bad cough and a sore throat. I began to take cough medicine in the hope that it would go away before the big day. But, I wasn’t lucky enough. By the time Friday came I could barely talk, let alone sing. But, I couldn’t let the guys or the fans down, so I was determined to give it a try. The guys knew I was not feeling the best so they helped back me up as much as they could.

I navigated through the set, trying to avoid any long or high notes. There wasn’t the onstage craziness that usually transpires, though still more than others. If I kept it soft it was generally okay, but I couldn’t take it to the next level. About halfway into the set my voice was breaking too often and it was evident that I shouldn’t be on the stage. I took myself offstage, not wanting to embarrass myself any further. The guys played a cover of one of Paul Wong’s songs while I stood by drinking some water. They convinced me to come back for two more songs, though I didn’t have the voice for it. Archvictor helped me sing Man Love! I wonder if it would have been better if I hadn’t performed at all, instead of giving people a bad impression of the band. Huge apologies if you watched the show! Though, most people said I sounded okay. But, deep within I know I can do better.

My condition hadn’t improved by Sunday, so I went to the doctor. Obviously I am worrying about next Friday’s performance. It turns out that I have been losing my voice because I have been having problems due to my asthma. I had once thought that I had grown out of my sickness. But, since I have come back to HK it has come back to haunt me. So, I have been taking some medicine and resting for the past few days. Trying to talk as little as possible. It is starting to feel better. But, I worry about when I need to go back to work because I will need to use my voice there and I don’t want to strain it again.

It is going to be better for the EP Release Party. It has to be. This is our most important event in our short time together. We are releasing an EP: FIRE BIRD INTERNATIONAL. The way I see it… we have to feel the lows to be able to enjoy the highs! I’m just getting too excited about the EP Release that I am giving myself an asthma attack. Lol. It is going to be great. We have two great bands supporting us: The David Bowie Knives; who are the sexiest band in HK…. And special guest performance by Audiotraffic; awesome brit rock pop…

Thanks for all of the media sponsors for the show: HKGFM, Re:Spect magazine, BC Magazine and Alivenotdead.

FBI are in BC magazine…. Check the link if you hadn’t yet read it. Please be aware of some small errors.

The EP is called Fire Bird International. “Man Love!” and “Gonna Make Love” has been misspelt. I also think HK has the beautifulest girls in the world! The photo where I squeeze Jerald’s ass is in fact in the CD booklet, not on the front cover.

FIRE BIRD INTERNATIONAL EP (CD COVER)

At this stage, the EP Release Party will be the only place where you can get yourself a CD.

Thanks to Jerald, the CD will also be available at CD Warehouse. The date will be confirmed later. Could be as early as the 25th of October.

I am sending some CDs to Australia for distribution through family and friends.

We are still looking for other places to distribute to. Though, we will end up having them available for sale at shows. And we have so many coming up already. Nov22, Nov28, Dec13 and maybe one more in December. More details about these shows will be posted later.

No wonder I am short of breath. Too much to say. So many shows. See you on Friday night!!!!

    Peace

    Cain
