Can someone please tell me what happened to common courtesy? Why are people today so closed? People rarely smile or make eye contact. Each day it seems this gets worse and spreads to more and more people. I would like to see common courtesy be reborn and common place again. I also can not believe that I am the only one who feels this way.
Just the other day, I held the door for a woman who was only a few feet behind me. A very simple gesture, yet she seemed geniunely surprised, once she picked her head up of course and realized that I had held the door for her. We proceeded to walk down the corridor to the elevators. She was getting off on a floor before mine, so before she exited I smiled and told her to "have a good day", she again looked up from the floor, turned, quickly smiled and responded "like wise".
Even when driving, each morning I see people trying to merge left and everyone stuck in gridlock traffic just stares blankly ahead of themselves. Never acknowledge the driver attempting to merge and then these same people will complain when a traffic accident occurs from lack of courtesy. It is amazing.
Well, I will do my best to maintain my common courtsy to all I encounter and hopefully common courtesy will return soon.
