Thanks for the positive energy. Turns out, they can't find anything from it...I have two scars for no apparent reason.

Well, hope your Asia trip goes well! You'll love it here, I'm sure.

Hey there! Life in Singapore's going...the usual.

Ah yes, the biopsy. Gonna remove my stitches tomorrow and get the doctor's full report the following week. Hoping it's curable, of course.

What about you? Made your way over to Asia yet? And how is the career path looking?

I've seen Ju Dou! Another one of those tragic ending films, though. But this time at least the heroine was feistier and had more spunk. I think I'm just generally a Gong Li fan...I think I've seen quite a bit of stuff with her in it (minus the Hollywood ventures, though...well, ok, maybe Hannibal Rising).

I've been trying to find Red Sorghum! But it's so difficult...and since we're on Gong Li films too..you should check out Zhou Yu's Train if you haven't. And yes, I'll definitely check out Yellow Earth too (I've seen Farewell My Concubine and loved it).

Didn't quite like House of Flying Daggers though.

Favorite eh? I don't really have a favorite. Raise the Red Lantern was good...I like bittersweet stories, and this one was just heartbreaking. Especially at the end when she just went mad. It's like she never had a choice to begin with, and that there really isn't a path for her to choose because it was all destined. As you can see, I'm a more storyline person when it comes to film. I do appreciate cinematography and art direction and stuff, but I just don't have an eye to construct those.

What about you? Since you've done a thesis on him, what do you like from him, and what would you recommend me to watch (if I have not seen it already)?

    I love Hero! Hmm...I wouldn't call it a commercial propaganda, but I don't think it's full-on art-house material. I say it has a healthy mix of both.

It's got your commercial but still art-house-ish cast, the storyline is not trashy and actually makes sense, but I think its cinematography puts it on the map. Without all the colors, I don't think the movie would have been that great of a success, really. What do you think?

We could go on for days on this...lol. Sigh, the only one other friend who could do this whole movie analyzing thing with me is now in Australia...so I pretty much miss intense film discussion. We should do this more often. Pick a film...lol.

You totally analyzed it from a film student's point of view...lol. That's an interesting take. I am sure he felt a sense of deep regret, but I reckon his cowardice obviously was the stronger emotion. Not that I'm all for him trying to kill himself after he realized he failed, but still, how can you actually bear to continue living and marry some other woman when the one person you love is already dead?

I guess he deserved every ounce of suffering for that 'betrayal' - if you will call that - to her.

I would think it's still fairly hard for me to get a job in HK...especially the work permit part. I think the place is overflowing with TV producers anyway. Still, I'm gonna try..and not give up till I actually get there.

Ah, great that you're done with the thesis, but darn that you fell sick. Lol...must have really worked super hard on that Zhang Yimou research, eh?

Hmm..since we're on the topic of Rouge, why do you think he didn't die? And how do you think he felt after he realized she died, yet he lived?

Either way I think it'd be an interesting experience for you. It's not really THAT bad, and if you're actually prepared to some degree before heading over, you should be fine.

Life in Oz was certainly fab. I'd definitely consider moving to a Western country someday, for retirement purposes or something, but for now I'd like to do the whole dream chasing thing and get a job in HK. While I'm still young, really.

    How's the thesis coming along?

Your positivity is contagious! Lol. And thank you, I wish you all the best in your future undertakings as well.

Hmm, I would think that life is generally much better in the UK. Life, in terms of standards of living. I don't know if you've ever stayed long-term in Asia before, but I've lived here all my life, and I'm not saying it's a crap place, but if you make comparisons, lots of places here don't exactly have very good living conditions and welfare. And at the end of the day, everyone just wants to live a decent life. If any of that made sense. Lol.
