Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yan52Gp2G5I Listening to the music of the "Red Cliff" movies, I have been interested in finding out more about Chinese-Tibetan singer, Alan Dawa Dolma (阿蘭達瓦卓瑪) or (アラン). I think it's interesting that she has more CDs released in Japanese than in Chinese or Tibetan. I'll try to pick up one of her CDs soon. I still don'...Read more
I have been listening to Jane Liangying Zhang's (張靚穎) lately. I really like her voice. She is from Chengdu, Sichuan, so I asked one of my friends to suggest a song to listen to. She recommended "Impressions of West Lake's Rain" ( 印象西湖雨). Fairly typical of Zhang Yimou's artistic directing (I also saw a show that he was involved in when I was in Guilin): Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ppa97VQdhM And she speaks English too...Read more
I finally saw Painted Skin (畫皮) - I thought it was good, but not great (at least, not as great as "Red Cliff 2"). Some solid actors and actresses in the movie, including Zhao Wei ( 趙薇), Donnie Yen ( 甄子丹), and Zhou Xun ( 周迅). Months ago, I had asked a few of my friend if they've seen it and one of my friends in Hong Kong told me, "Of course not, it's a horror movie". (actually i...Read more
Being a fan of Zhang Ziyi (I still don't know why many Asians don't like her), I am looking forward to seeing, "Sophie's Revenge" (非常完美). Hope it comes out on DVD soon!
(I'm glad she is trying different roles although "The Raccoon Princess" (オペレッタ狸御殿, Operetta tanuki goten) had to be the strangest movie of her's that I've seen).
Fan Bingbing is also in the movie, I recently saw her movie, ( 苹果).

I had a nice time in Hong Kong last Christmas, so I've been trying to keep up with some of the news there:
Reba Mcentire'S Southern Drawl Caused Her Trouble In Hong Kong - actually, there are times when even people here in the USA don't understand one another because of their accents, so I don't think this is unique to people in Hong Kong not understanding American English.
My parents had been thinking about going on a short vacation to Hong Kong, but they couldn't make it. Now I'm glad that they can't go - there's so many incidents of people throwing acid over there, it's ridiculous. Even if you're not the target, if you happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, you'll be a victim. It happened again last week and this time not in Mongkok:
While in Shanghai, I went up on The Shanghai World Financial Centre building to take in the view from the observatory. Excellent!! I recommend it if you are in Shanghai. The roof is actually taller than the roof of the Taipei 101, but the Taipei 101 is taller due to it's spire. The glass floor is interesting.
While in Yunnan last year, quiet often I would hear this song and instrument, especially in Lijiang and Dali. Brings back good memories.
"Here's the very TV drama-y first teaser for Hidekazu Matsudas Koshonin - The Negotiator: The Movie, a theatrically-released continuation of TV Asahis highly-rated Koshonin - The Negotiator series which will be entering its second season on October 22nd.
As Tokyograph reported back in July, the film will take place at 10,000 meters above the ground, as some unfortunate hijackers decide to take over a plane on which police negotiator and all-around badass Reiko Usagi (Ryoko Yonekura) happens to be a passenger.<...Read more
Cliff is finally going to be shown in the US, but they are combining both movies into one. I've read a lot will be cut out - roughly 50% (supposedly because Americans aren't interested in Chinese history). I enjoyed both movies. I'm worried that the critics here in the US will get lost since they are only seeing half of the movie!
