While in Yunnan last year, quiet often I would hear this song and instrument, especially in Lijiang and Dali.   Brings back good memories.

  • Kōshōnin (交渉人) - The Negotiator

    Wednesday, Oct 28, 2009 9:56AM / Standard Entry

"Here's the very TV drama-y first teaser for Hidekazu Matsudas Koshonin - The Negotiator: The Movie, a theatrically-released continuation of TV Asahis highly-rated Koshonin - The Negotiator series which will be entering its second season on October 22nd.

As Tokyograph reported back in July, the film will take place at 10,000 meters above the ground, as some unfortunate hijackers decide to take over a plane on which police negotiator and all-around badass Reiko Usagi (Ryoko Yonekura) happens to be a passenger.

Koshonin will be released by Toei in February 2010."

I enjoyed watching the first TV series (okay, I admit, I am a fan of Ryoko Yonekura).  Hopefully the second one will be even better and the movie will top that too.  Unfortunately, I'll have to wait for either the Hong Kong or Malaysian DVD release, because I don't understand that much Japanese (language) and Japanese DVDs rarely come with English subtitles.  (of course the reverse can be said of American DVDs - they rarely come with Chinese or Japanese or Korean subtitles too).

  • Red Cliff - in the USA

    Wednesday, Oct 28, 2009 9:51AM / Standard Entry

Red Cliff is finally going to be shown in the US, but they are combining both movies into one. I've read a lot will be cut out - roughly 50% (supposedly because Americans aren't interested in Chinese history). I enjoyed both movies.  I'm worried that the critics here in the US will get lost since they are only seeing half of the movie!

  • H1N1 Swine Flu in Japan...

    Monday, Aug 31, 2009 10:52AM / Standard Entry

Just curious how bad is the H1N1 Swine Flu in Japan?  According to the news that I've read...

Flu epidemic starts early in Japan

I have to connect in Japan (Narita airport outside of Tokyo - one of my favorite airports) on my way back from Beijing.  At least I won't get sick and ruin my vacation - my flight is direct to Shanghai!
