I have been thinking of the plight of the Sichuan earthquake since it happened. I dwell how horrible it would be to loose your loved ones to death and have no home due to a natural disaster.
China has been the home of my father and his second family for some years and they have enjoyed the beautiful qualities and enrichment of which China offers.
I know my father has donated to this cause and with my own meagre financial resources, I decided to donate what I could spare to the Sichuan people, so these people can rebuild their lives and homes.
I wrote the below poem with the Sichuan people in mind, for they are my brothers and sisters. I chose two flowers in this poem which are significant to Chinese people, one being the ' Lotus" which signifies total purity and the othe being ' Hydrangea ' which signifies love.
Now hangs the moon with faded light,
Above the garden's mist and gloom,
An orbed moon, a waxen seal,
And dark the scroll of night,
With the distance of the tomb,
Of man's perpetuate doom!
And now there stirs aloft,
Among the branches there,
A melody immeasurably soft,
Echoes of the muted midnight air,
Sighing to the trees,
A covenant of calm despair,
Half penitently hushed...
And now thin breezes borrow,
Mystery from the Lotus,
And Hydrangea crushed,
By the heavy lips of sorrow,
Lie dimly, dewy wet...
Until the tuned memories,
And perfumes of the brain,
Sing sadness to the morrow,
In pallid ecstasies of pain.
